Ubisoft Connect on PC normally updates automatically. If it is stuck, will not open, or keeps asking for an update, close the launcher and run the current Windows installer from Ubisoft’s official download page over the existing installation. This is the safest manual starting point; you generally do not need to uninstall your games.
Manually update Ubisoft Connect on PC
- Save your work and close any Ubisoft games.
- Exit Ubisoft Connect. If it remains open in the Windows notification area, quit it there. You can also check Task Manager for Ubisoft Connect processes that are still running; end only processes you can clearly identify as belonging to the launcher.
- Open Ubisoft’s official Ubisoft Connect download page and download the Windows installer.
- Run the installer and approve the Windows security prompt if one appears. Follow the instructions it displays. Running it over the existing installation may update or repair the client.
- Open Ubisoft Connect again, sign in if asked, and let any additional update finish.
Installer wording and buttons can vary by language and revision. Ubisoft’s public download page is the reliable source for the current installer; it does not establish a universal in-app Check for updates command. If your client has no manual update option, use the installer above rather than relying on old Uplay instructions or third-party downloads.
If Ubisoft Connect will not update
Work through these steps in order, moving to a reinstall only if simpler fixes fail:

- Restart Windows. This can clear a stuck background process or a pending file operation.
- Run Ubisoft’s installer again. Download a fresh copy from the official page and run it over the current installation.
- Check the connection and security settings. Temporarily test without a VPN or proxy, check whether firewall or antivirus software is blocking the download, and try another network if the download repeatedly fails. Make sure there is enough free storage for the installer and temporary files. Do not leave security software disabled; only consider a narrow exception if you trust the official Ubisoft files and understand the risk.
- Reinstall the client as a last resort. First note where your games are installed. Uninstall Ubisoft Connect through Windows, restart the PC, then download and run a fresh installer from Ubisoft. Sign in afterward and, if the client offers the option, point it to existing game files. The way to locate installed games can vary between client versions, so verify each game rather than assuming it will be recognized automatically.
Avoid manually deleting game folders or cache and configuration folders as an early fix. Do not download a purported “latest version” from an unofficial site.

Is the launcher outdated, or does the game need a patch?
These are separate updates:
- Ubisoft Connect client update: updates the desktop launcher.
- Game update: patches a particular game and may be needed even when the launcher is current.
- Windows update: updates the operating system, not Ubisoft Connect.
If the launcher says it is up to date but a game will not start, open that game’s page in Ubisoft Connect and check for a pending download or patch. Restart the launcher and use the game’s file-verification or repair option if the current client provides one. If the problem remains limited to one title, check that game’s official support information.
Ubisoft says it may provide software updates and that some can be necessary to keep using its software or services. So an update prompt can be a requirement for access, not just an optional interface change. Ubisoft also says the client may be needed to install, launch, access, or unlock some content; requirements vary by game and feature. See the Ubisoft Terms of Use.

PlayStation and Xbox: use the console’s update system
Do not use the Windows installer on a console. Ubisoft Connect features may be available from within games on PC and console, but console players normally update games and system software through PlayStation or Xbox’s own update controls. Menu names vary by console and system version. If rewards, friends, or online features fail inside a game, check for a game update and a console system update, then check Ubisoft’s service or support channels.
Will updating remove installed games or saves?
Running the current installer over the existing client is preferable to immediately uninstalling it or deleting folders, but no reinstall should be treated as a guarantee that every setting, cache, or local file will be preserved. Before a full uninstall, record game-install locations. Do not remove game folders unless Ubisoft Support directs you to.

Save handling differs by title: some progress or settings may be local, cloud-based, or handled differently. Do not assume every save is backed up to the same place. If the installer offers an update or repair path, try that before a full uninstall.

Contact Ubisoft Support if the official installer repeatedly fails, the client crashes after reinstalling, installed games are not recognized, or you cannot authenticate. If Ubisoft Connect works but only one game has a problem, include that title and its error message when looking for help.
