Upgrade efficiently by treating The King of Fighters AFK’s progression as separate systems: level individual fighters, Awaken them with Tarot Cards, and improve account-wide stats through Console Skill Packs. Advance through available dungeons and challenges, claim event and login rewards, and check the live upgrade screen before spending scarce materials. The available official information does not establish a universally best fighter order or exact resource-efficiency formula.
Understand the different upgrade systems
Progression is not one shared upgrade track. Identify what a system improves before deciding whether to spend on it.
| System | What it affects | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Fighter Level Up | An individual fighter | The game offers Fighter Level Up; the US App Store listing advertises one-tap power-ups and records a September 16 update entry describing faster Fighter Level Up. The year is not stated in the retrieved listing. US App Store listing |
| Fighter Awakening | An individual fighter | Netmarble’s challenge tips identify Tarot Cards earned through Challenge modes as Fighter Awakening materials. Netmarble challenge tips |
| Console Skill Packs | Account stats | Acquiring a pack grants an Active Effect that increases account stats. Duplicates grant Skill Pack Cards used to upgrade that pack and apply its Star Level Effect. Netmarble update notice |
| Other power-up additions | Depends on the system | Apple’s version history records additions including Keepsakes and Club Battle, as well as expanded progression content. It is change history, not a complete catalog of what is currently available. US App Store version history |
Where to focus your progression effort
Advance through available dungeons and challenges
Netmarble presents Starter and Elite Dungeons as account-growth activities and points to Challenge modes as a source of Tarot Cards for Awakening. Use the rewards and requirements shown in your client to decide what to tackle next; the official guidance does not establish comparative drop rates or which mode gives the best return.
Claim event and login rewards
The US App Store listing advertises rewards from events and logins. Claim them when available, then check which current upgrade track can use the rewards rather than assuming every reward is best spent on the same fighter or system.

Check added systems before following older advice
The game’s progression options have changed over time: Apple’s history notes additions such as Keepsakes and Club Research Lab nodes, alongside expanded stages and dungeons. Advice for an older version—or for another King of Fighters game—may not match the requirements in your client.
Use a quick check before spending scarce materials
- Open the upgrade screen for the fighter or system. Confirm the current cost, prerequisites, and effect shown in the client before committing materials.
- Identify the scope of the benefit. Decide whether the upgrade improves one fighter, as with Level Up or Awakening, or account stats, as with Console Skill Packs.
- Check the next unlock or effect. Compare what the next upgrade actually grants with the materials it asks for; do not assume the cost or benefit scales in a particular way.
- Match farming to the material you need. For Awakening, official guidance points to Tarot Cards from Challenge modes. For other materials, use the sources and requirements currently shown in-game.
- Recheck after updates. New content and power-up systems can change what is available, so base decisions on the current client rather than an old guide.
What cannot be ranked reliably from the available information
There is no substantiated exact upgrade-cost curve, farming-efficiency comparison, or best-fighter investment order here. The official information identifies systems and some material sources, but does not provide comparable fighter costs, role-specific returns, or a best-in-slot progression sequence. A recommendation to prioritize one fighter or upgrade path as universally optimal would therefore go beyond the established facts.

The King of Fighters AFK is presented by Netmarble as an idle game with ongoing growth and strategic team battles. That broad design does not remove the need to check costs: the dependable approach is to use the current client’s requirements and effects to choose between fighter-specific and account-wide improvements.
