If you have a saved video or livestream recording, upload it through YouTube Studio and keep the original file on your device until the transfer finishes. A slow connection may take time, but YouTube says an interrupted upload can be continued for up to 24 hours by selecting the same file again at youtube.com/upload. If the file is unusually large, you can make a smaller H.264 export before starting—but keep in mind that extra compression can reduce image quality.
Upload a saved video from a computer
For a recorded stream, the upload process transfers a video file; it does not start a live broadcast. YouTube treats uploading and publishing as separate steps: first import the file, then choose when and how viewers can watch it.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio on your computer.
- Select Create, then Upload videos.
- Choose the saved video file. Keep that original file in place while it uploads.
- Enter the video details, including its title and audience setting, and choose the visibility and other options you need.
- Complete the upload. Choose to publish now or schedule it, as appropriate; upload completion by itself does not make the video public.
YouTube’s computer upload instructions are at Upload YouTube videos – Computer.
What to do when the upload is slow or interrupted
Let a slow transfer continue if you can
Upload time depends on the file’s size and format, its quality, your sustained upload bandwidth, and network traffic. HD and 4K files can take longer to transfer, and YouTube identifies slow or unstable internet and peak-hour ISP upload traffic as common causes of slow uploads. YouTube recommends letting a slow upload finish when possible; switching connections or cancelling immediately can cost time without fixing the underlying bottleneck. See YouTube’s “Video stuck during upload” guidance.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Resume with the same file
If you had to stop or lost the connection, YouTube says you have up to 24 hours to continue where the upload left off: return to youtube.com/upload and select the same file. Avoid editing, renaming, moving, or replacing the source file during that window. If you have created a new export, it is not necessarily the same file YouTube asks you to select to resume.
Check whether the transfer is actually finished
Uploading and processing are different. A completed transfer may still be processing, especially for higher playback qualities such as HD or 4K. If the video has not yet reached its highest available resolution, that alone does not mean the upload is stuck. YouTube explains upload processing at its computer upload help page.

Check upload speed in India
Measure upload speed—not download speed—when diagnosing a file transfer. A speed test result is a measurement of the connection at that time, not a guarantee of the rate a long upload will sustain. If uploads are consistently slow, compare measurements at different times, including outside busy evening periods, and check the typical upload speed your broadband provider states for your plan.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) says it does not prescribe a minimum download or upload speed. Its broadband FAQ says providers must indicate typical speeds generally available for tariff offerings and describes service testing against those declared typical speeds. TRAI points subscribers to its MySpeed app and portal for checking broadband speed: TRAI Broadband FAQ. This is not a nationwide upload-speed figure or a minimum that every Indian plan must meet.

Choose whether to change the connection or shrink the file
| Option | When it makes sense | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Continue on the current connection | The connection is stable, or switching would incur extra cost or uncertainty. | Measured upload speed, peak-hour congestion, reliability, and any mobile data allowance or charge. |
| Try another connection | Your current connection is unstable and a suitable alternative is available. | A mobile or other connection is not automatically faster or cheaper. On Android, YouTube lets you choose Wi-Fi or mobile-network uploads; check your carrier’s data terms first. |
| Upload the existing export | You want to preserve the current image quality and the file is within YouTube’s limits. | The larger the file, the more data must travel over a slow upstream connection. Keep this exact file available if you may need to resume. |
| Make a smaller H.264 export | The file is very large and you can accept the quality tradeoff of another encode. | A smaller file contains fewer bytes to transfer, but more compression can reduce picture quality. YouTube does not give a universal bitrate that guarantees a particular upload time or visual result. |
YouTube identifies H.264 in video-editing software as a compression option that can reduce file size while maintaining quality, but the balance depends on the video and export settings. Its guidance is available at Upload videos longer than 15 minutes and Troubleshoot audio or video issues with uploads on YouTube. If you compress the video, save the new export as a separate file; retain the original until any pending upload has completed or its resume window has passed.
Upload from the YouTube app on Android
- Open the YouTube app and tap your profile picture.
- Go to Settings → General → Uploads.
- Choose whether uploads can use Wi-Fi or a mobile network, then start the upload from the app.
Using mobile data is a connection alternative, not a promise of higher speed; check your carrier plan for data charges or limits first. YouTube’s Android instructions are at Upload YouTube videos – Android.

Check YouTube’s file and account limits
- Videos longer than 15 minutes require a verified account.
- The maximum upload size is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less. These are platform limits, not recommended targets for a slow connection.
- If a file is over the size limit, YouTube’s help page recommends compressing it with H.264 in video-editing software.
These limits and verification guidance are listed by YouTube at Upload videos longer than 15 minutes. A smaller file may be more practical to transfer, but choose its quality based on what you need viewers to see.
Troubleshoot common upload problems
- Progress is barely moving: Check upload speed and connection stability, and consider whether the network is busy. If possible, leave the transfer running rather than canceling reflexively.
- The connection dropped: Within 24 hours, go to youtube.com/upload and select the same file to continue. If that window has passed or the source file changed, YouTube’s stated resume instruction may no longer apply.
- The upload finished but HD or 4K is unavailable: Allow processing time. High-resolution processing can continue after the file transfer is complete.
- The file is too large: Consider making a smaller H.264 export, accepting that compression can affect image quality. If it exceeds YouTube’s maximum upload size, follow YouTube’s compression guidance.
- A long video will not upload: Check whether the account is verified if the video is longer than 15 minutes, and confirm the file is within the size and duration limits.
- You want to switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data on Android: Change the upload network setting in the YouTube app, but check data charges and do not assume the cellular connection will be faster.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded video looping as a 24/7 YouTube live stream—not simply upload a video for ordinary playback—you can upload the recording to StreamNeo, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
