How to Upload and Loop Videos from OVHcloud Object Storage to YouTube Live

A practical guide to the OVHcloud-to-YouTube Live workflow: store the video, verify an encoder can access and loop it, then configure YouTube ingest and test the stream.

You can store a video in OVHcloud Object Storage and broadcast it repeatedly on YouTube Live, but the bucket alone does not create or loop a live stream. The workflow needs three parts: upload the file to an S3-compatible OVHcloud bucket, make it available to a playback-capable encoder that supports repeat playback, then send the encoder’s output to YouTube using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio.

The exact bridge between an OVHcloud object and an encoder depends on the encoder you choose. The OVHcloud and YouTube guidance linked below establishes the storage and ingest steps, but does not verify that a particular encoder can play an OVHcloud object directly or specify its loop control.

What you need before you start

  • An OVHcloud S3 Object Storage bucket and the video file you want to broadcast.
  • A playback and encoding setup that can access the file and repeat playback. This could involve downloading the file to a machine the encoder can read, or another method supported by that encoder. Confirm the encoder’s current documentation before relying on a direct object URL.
  • A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming, plus an encoder configured with the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube supports software and standalone hardware encoders. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the ingest workflow.

OVHcloud Object Storage holds static files, including video, and its S3 Object Storage classes use an S3-compatible API. That does not make the bucket itself a live encoder: the encoder must read and play the media while sending a continuous feed to YouTube. OVHcloud’s Object Storage FAQ describes the storage service and access options.

1. Upload the video to OVHcloud Object Storage

  1. Choose an S3 Object Storage bucket and region. Use an S3-compatible Object Storage class, not an older Swift Object Storage class: the APIs differ. OVHcloud says S3 objects can be accessed using tools such as AWS CLI or s3cmd, but the endpoint is region-specific.
  2. Upload the file. Use the OVHcloud control panel or an S3-compatible client configured with the credentials and regional endpoint for your service. Check OVHcloud’s current endpoint instructions and the selected storage class’s rules. No single endpoint or command is specified here because it depends on the region and service configuration.
  3. Keep the object private unless access requires otherwise. OVHcloud says objects are private by default. Its FAQ describes presigned URLs for temporary downloads; anyone who has such a URL can download the object, so treat it as a bearer link rather than a safe-to-publish address.

2. Make the stored video available to a looping encoder

Decide how the selected encoder will read the video, then verify that it can repeat playback without interrupting the outgoing feed. The storage and YouTube documentation do not establish that a particular encoder accepts an OVHcloud S3 object URL or a presigned URL, nor do they specify a universal loop setting.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Before building a long-running stream, check the encoder’s current documentation for supported source types, authentication, repeat-playback behavior, and what happens when playback reaches the end of the file. If it cannot read the object directly, use a source method the encoder explicitly supports—for example, download the file to storage accessible to that encoder. Do not assume an S3-compatible bucket is directly playable just because an encoder accepts some URLs.

3. Configure YouTube Live and connect the encoder

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream you intend to use.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter both in the encoder’s YouTube or RTMP settings as directed by that encoder. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private: do not publish it in a screenshot, public source repository, or public bucket configuration. See YouTube’s guide to managing live stream settings.
  3. Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Confirm that the picture and sound are present before starting the broadcast, then monitor stream quality. Follow the selected stream’s Live Control Room controls and settings when you go live.

4. Test channel eligibility, bandwidth, and playback before a long run

  • Confirm live access. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
  • Check outbound bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving headroom above the stream’s bitrate and testing in advance. The encoder’s outbound connection—not simply the bucket’s storage capacity—must sustain the feed. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
  • Verify the loop itself. Let playback reach the end at least once during a test. Confirm that it restarts as intended, that audio does not disappear or jump unexpectedly, and that the encoder continues sending to YouTube.
  • Monitor after going live. Check the YouTube preview and stream health, and watch the encoder and the media source for interruptions.

Protect storage access and the YouTube stream key

Keep OVHcloud access credentials out of public configuration and avoid making an object public solely to simplify playback unless that exposure is intentional. A presigned URL grants access to anyone who obtains it for its valid period, so do not post it publicly. Keep the YouTube stream key private as well. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement key, following YouTube’s stream-settings instructions.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The encoder cannot open the video The encoder may not support direct S3 access, the object may be private, or the endpoint or credentials may be wrong. Confirm the encoder’s supported source types. Verify the OVHcloud region-specific endpoint and access configuration. If using a presigned URL, check its validity and access scope; do not assume URL support without encoder documentation.
YouTube shows no incoming video The encoder may not be running, or the stream URL or key may be incorrect. Check the encoder’s YouTube/RTMP configuration against the values in Live Control Room and inspect YouTube’s preview before starting the broadcast.
The feed stops or becomes unstable The encoder’s outbound connection may not sustain the bitrate, or the playback source or encoder may have stopped. Check the outbound connection and leave bandwidth headroom as YouTube recommends. Inspect the encoder and source playback, then test again before a longer run.
The video plays once and then ends Repeat playback may not be enabled or supported by the chosen playback arrangement. Verify the encoder’s current loop or repeat-playback instructions and test through the end of the file before relying on it for a continuous stream.
The stream key no longer works The key may have been changed or exposed. Check the current key in Live Control Room. If it was exposed, reset it there and replace the value in the encoder.

Costs and operational trade-offs

Object Storage charges, any applicable traffic limits, and encoder operating costs depend on the chosen OVHcloud service, region, and playback setup. The OVHcloud pages cited here do not establish a stable price or throughput figure for this workflow, so check the current terms for the specific service you use. A self-managed encoder also means maintaining the playback source, encoder, and network connection for the duration of the stream.
