To loop a prerecorded video at a scheduled YouTube Live event, create the event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder to send the video—and enable repeat in that encoder. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not supply or loop the video feed. When the encoder feed appears in Live Control Room preview, start the event there unless you have deliberately configured auto-start.
What a scheduled event does—and what it does not do
A scheduled YouTube Live event gives viewers an upcoming watch page and a start time. The moving audio and video still have to come from an encoder, such as software running on a computer or compatible hardware. The encoder, not YouTube Studio, is responsible for playing and repeating the prerecorded file. Loop controls and scheduled-start behavior vary by encoder, so check its current documentation rather than assuming YouTube will repeat the file for you.
Scheduling can make an event appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds and let viewers opt into a “Notify me” reminder. It does not guarantee that a viewer will receive or see a notification.
Before scheduling: check channel eligibility and prepare the file
Confirm live-streaming eligibility
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Check eligibility before planning a premiere-like scheduled broadcast; otherwise you may be unable to start it as planned.

Prepare a representative video and audio check
Have the intended video file ready in the encoder, and check that its audio is present and at a usable level. Plan to preview the actual feed in Live Control Room before making the event public. If you need to rehearse privately, use an unlisted test stream.
Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then choose the option to schedule a stream.
- Set the event details and scheduled start time. Scheduling can create an upcoming listing and a watch page for viewers.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and stream key. Use the details for this event, not another scheduled stream.
YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the associated event.
Set up the encoder to loop the prerecorded video
Computer and software encoder
- Open the encoder you plan to use and configure it to send a live feed to YouTube.
- In the encoder’s media playback or file-source feature, select the prerecorded video.
- Enable the encoder’s repeat or loop option for that file. The location and name of this control depend on the encoder; YouTube does not prescribe a universal loop setting.
- Enter the scheduled event’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP destination settings.
- Apply the encoder configuration and start sending the feed early enough to inspect it in Live Control Room.
If the file reaches its end and the encoder has no repeat enabled, the video may stop or leave the encoder sending a different output. Confirm that the file actually returns to its beginning before relying on the loop.

Dedicated hardware option
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists the AJA HELO Plus and its PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. It is an optional hardware route, not a requirement for the software-encoder workflow. Compare whether unattended hardware scheduling and any local-recording capability suit your needs; current price and availability are not established here.
Configure the feed to YouTube’s encoder guidance
YouTube’s published encoder settings include RTMP or RTMPS transport; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and frame rates up to 60 fps. Its guidance recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport and a two-second keyframe interval. Match your encoder’s settings to YouTube’s current requirements and test the real feed—supported formats alone do not guarantee that your chosen combination will work well.
Set resolution and bitrate to suit the source video, available upload bandwidth, and YouTube’s current recommendations for the selected resolution and frame rate. Do not upscale a low-resolution recording expecting to create detail that is not in the source. Avoid setting a bitrate your connection cannot sustain consistently.

Preflight the event and start it
- Allow setup time. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event.
- Start the encoder early. YouTube recommends starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start so you can confirm the incoming feed.
- Inspect Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the intended video is visible, the loop is moving, and audio is present. Check stream health and resolve warnings before proceeding.
- Check the viewer-facing page. Confirm that the event and watch page are available through your channel and that the scheduled listing is the one you intend to use.
- Start the event. Once the preview is correct, select Go live in Live Control Room unless you have intentionally enabled and configured auto-start.
- Monitor the run. Keep an eye on stream health and the actual output. For a long broadcast, check that the encoder continues to repeat the file and that the local recording or backup is being created if you are using one.
End the stream and protect the recording
When the planned run is over, stop the YouTube event and the encoder. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording or a separate archive plan, especially for a long loop; do not treat YouTube’s archive as the only copy.
Choose between a computer, hardware, or cloud service
For a scheduled event, a computer with an encoder or the documented hardware option can send the prerecorded feed. The practical differences to check are whether the loop and scheduling controls meet your needs, whether the sending device must remain available, whether recovery is suitable for your run, and whether you need a local recording. The encoder workflow above is the do-it-yourself route; cloud automation is another option when you do not want a computer at home to keep sending the feed.

Troubleshooting common failures
The scheduled event exists, but no video appears
The event watch page and encoder feed are separate. Start the encoder with the scheduled event’s stream URL and key, then check Live Control Room preview. Verify that you copied the credentials for the correct event.
The video plays once and stops
The encoder may not have repeat enabled, or its file playback feature may not loop that source. Check the encoder’s loop setting and test through the end of the file before the scheduled broadcast.
The preview has no sound or the wrong picture
Check the selected file or media source, audio track, and encoder output. YouTube recommends checking representative audio and movement in the preview; do not start the public event until the preview shows the intended feed.

The encoder is sending, but the event has not started
An incoming feed does not necessarily mean the event is live to viewers. Check the preview and select Go live in Live Control Room unless the event’s auto-start setting has been deliberately configured.
The feed is unstable or stream health shows a problem
Review the encoder’s output against YouTube’s current settings guidance, including constant bitrate, supported encoding, and the recommended two-second keyframe interval. Check the sending connection and lower the bitrate or output demands if the connection cannot sustain them; test again before the scheduled start.
The archive is missing or incomplete
YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording or separate archive for long runs, and verify that the recording is being saved while the broadcast is in progress.
