To send a live source from Restreamer to YouTube, create or select a stream in YouTube Studio, copy its server URL and stream key, then add the YouTube destination under Publication Service in Restreamer. Start the publication and check for bitrate feedback in Restreamer; for a scheduled event, wait for YouTube’s preview and click Go live in Live Control Room.
Before you start
- You need an active YouTube account and a stream configured in YouTube Studio. YouTube provides the server URL and stream key that Restreamer uses as the destination credentials. See YouTube’s streaming setup guidance.
- You need a live source already configured in Restreamer. Its external publication service sends that source to YouTube; it does not create the source itself. Restreamer’s general Publication Services documentation notes that an active account on the external service is required.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it in a screenshot, chat, or public document.
The Restreamer YouTube guide’s interface labels may differ from your installed version. If they do, use the current Publication Service controls and copy the matching destination details from YouTube Live Control Room rather than relying on an old label or a generic server address. The guide’s search listing says it was last updated three years ago; the general Restreamer documentation does not identify a specific application version.
Set up the YouTube stream and copy its credentials
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open the Stream tab. Create a stream or select the existing or scheduled stream you want Restreamer to feed.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Keep them paired exactly as YouTube supplies them; do not substitute a generic RTMP address. YouTube explains its stream setup and key controls in its live streaming guide.
Add YouTube as a Restreamer destination
- In Restreamer, open Publication Service.
- Choose the YouTube destination.
- Enter the requested YouTube streaming ID or key and the corresponding destination details. Use the server URL and key from the same YouTube stream.
- Save the destination configuration.
- Start the publication from Restreamer. Its YouTube guide says bitrate feedback appears in Restreamer’s main window after the connection is established. If the bitrate does not appear, use the troubleshooting checks below.

Confirm the feed and take the event live
For a scheduled YouTube event, starting the Restreamer publication sends the feed to YouTube, but it may not make the event publicly live by itself. Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room, then click Go live when you are ready to begin the event. Check YouTube’s preview and status rather than treating Restreamer’s connected bitrate alone as proof that the event is live to viewers. YouTube’s live stream setup instructions cover the control-room workflow.

End the event without risking its DVR archive
- End the broadcast in YouTube first.
- After the YouTube event has ended, stop the publication in Restreamer.
Restreamer specifically warns that interrupting its output during a live event may mean YouTube does not save the stream in its DVR archive. Its guide says: “Always end the stream on YouTube first after an event.” See the Restreamer YouTube guide.
RTMP or RTMPS: which destination should you use?
RTMP is the standard transport described in Restreamer’s publication documentation. RTMPS carries RTMP over TLS/SSL, adding encryption in transit. To use RTMPS, select the RTMPS server URL supplied by YouTube in Live Control Room, and make sure the sending encoder or destination supports it. Do not assume an RTMP URL and RTMPS URL are interchangeable.

YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the protocol and server in the URL, using port 443 if the service URL requires it, and confirming encoder support if a TLS connection fails or times out. Restreamer’s general publication documentation lists HLS, RTMP, and SRT, but does not establish that every version’s YouTube preset exposes RTMPS. Check the destination options in your installed version before choosing it.
Troubleshoot a YouTube destination that will not connect or play correctly
No connection or no bitrate feedback
- Check the URL and key: Make sure the server URL and key came from the same YouTube stream and were entered without alteration. A key reset or a different selected event can make previously copied credentials invalid.
- Check the stream’s status: Confirm the intended stream is selected in Live Control Room and that it is configured to receive a feed.
- Check RTMP versus RTMPS: The selected protocol must match the URL YouTube supplied, and Restreamer’s destination must support that protocol. If an RTMPS connection fails or times out, check the endpoint and required port with YouTube’s troubleshooting steps.
The feed arrives, but the scheduled event is not live
Look for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. A scheduled event may still require you to press Go live there after the preview appears.

There is no audio
Check that the Restreamer source has an active audio channel and that the selected source actually carries audio. Restreamer’s wizard documentation says some services, including YouTube, require an active audio channel.
The stream key may have been exposed
If someone else may have seen or copied the key, reset it in Live Control Room. YouTube says a channel owner or manager can reset the stream key. Then update the Restreamer destination with the replacement key before starting the publication again; see YouTube’s stream setup guidance.
