A scheduled YouTube livestream gives your radio station an upcoming event and watch page; it does not generate or send the station’s audio. To broadcast, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, send your audio feed to YouTube with an encoder using the stream URL and key, then start the event in Live Control Room after checking the preview. Because YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, scheduling alone is not a plan for indefinite broadcasting.
What scheduling does—and what it does not do
A scheduled livestream creates an upcoming YouTube event that viewers can find and, where available, set reminders for. It can establish the watch page before airtime, but the station still needs an encoder to send its live feed. YouTube’s instructions describe entering the server URL and stream key in the encoder, then starting the event in Live Control Room after the preview is ready (YouTube’s encoder setup guide; live stream settings).
For a radio station, the feed may be a computer’s playback output, a mixer output, or another compatible audio source. An external interface, preamp, or microphone can be useful for a particular setup, but YouTube’s setup guidance does not make any one of those pieces of hardware a universal requirement. Confirm that the encoder can receive the signal your station actually uses.
Check channel eligibility and plan lead time
- Enable livestreaming early. YouTube says first-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours. Its guidance calls for a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days; YouTube’s general eligibility guidance also states a minimum age of 16 (YouTube live streaming tips).
- Allow time for the event page. Create the scheduled event well before airtime so you can check its details and share the watch page.
- Account for trailers only if relevant. YouTube says scheduled-stream trailers require more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes (Manage live stream settings).
- Confirm broadcast rights. A station must have the rights needed to stream its music and other audio on YouTube. Scheduling or using an encoder does not grant those rights. Check the applicable licenses and YouTube’s current copyright rules for your content and territory.
Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream.
- Choose to create a new stream or reuse prior settings. Check the title, description, thumbnail, privacy, date, and time rather than assuming copied details are still correct.
- Review any reused stream key and the auto-start or auto-stop selections. Reuse-settings can copy prior metadata, settings, key, and those selections, so verify them for this event.
- Save the schedule and open the resulting watch page. Check that it is reachable with the intended privacy setting and that the date and time are correct.
YouTube’s scheduled-stream settings support notifications for viewers who opt in. Scheduling is an event-planning feature; it does not start the encoder or supply audio.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect the station feed to an encoder
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key for the scheduled event. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it unnecessarily.
- In your encoder, select YouTube as the destination and enter the URL and key. YouTube recommends RTMPS; check its current encoder settings guidance for supported protocols, codecs, resolutions, and bitrate ranges.
- Select the audio input that carries the station program. If using a mixer, interface, or other external device, confirm the encoder is receiving that device rather than a silent or unintended input.
- Choose an audio/video format and bitrate that the encoder and upload connection can sustain consistently. A radio-only stream does not benefit automatically from choosing the highest video resolution. If the station includes a visual, use a resolution and bitrate appropriate to that visual and available bandwidth; avoid settings that cause dropped frames or interruptions.
- Save the encoder profile securely. If the stream key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in the encoder before broadcasting again.
Run a preflight and start the broadcast
- At least two hours before the event, configure and check the encoder, as YouTube recommends. Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before airtime so you can confirm its connection and inspect the preview (YouTube live streaming tips).
- Check the event watch page, Live Control Room preview, and actual program audio. Listen for silence, distortion, clipping, wrong routing, or unintended material; monitor the stream while it is live.
- Test any backup connection, playback source, or restart procedure before relying on it for an unattended broadcast. YouTube recommends monitoring and checking failover arrangements, but a scheduled event does not itself provide a tested backup.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room. When it is ready, select Go live unless the event’s tested auto-start configuration is intended to control the start.
- When ending an event, stop sending the feed and use End Stream as appropriate. Verify what happens to the archive and how the next event will be started in your specific setup.
Plan continuity: a scheduled event is not an indefinite stream
YouTube states that all streams under 12 hours are automatically archived (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder). That is an important operational limit for a radio station aiming to stay live continuously: do not assume that one scheduled event will run forever or that the scheduling feature will restart it. Decide how the station will handle event duration, archive behavior, the next event, and any interruption, and verify the behavior with the channel and encoder configuration you will use.
A continuous operation plan needs someone—or a service with a recovery process—to detect a dropped feed and restore it. Auto-start and auto-stop settings may let an encoder control stream start and stop, but they are not a substitute for monitoring or a tested recovery path.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- Livestreaming is not available yet: first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Confirm channel verification and eligibility, then allow activation time before the event.
- The event is scheduled but viewers hear nothing: scheduling does not send audio. Check that the encoder is running, the correct input is selected, and the station signal reaches that input.
- Live Control Room has no preview: check the destination, stream URL, key, encoder connection, and network. If the key was reset or exposed, update the encoder with the current key.
- The connection is unstable or quality is poor: lower the encoder settings to a sustainable format and bitrate, check upload stability, and consult YouTube’s current protocol and bitrate guidance rather than copying settings intended for a different resolution.
- The event appears to stop or archive before the station’s intended run: YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Check the actual event behavior and plan a verified rotation or restart approach rather than assuming one event is indefinite.
- The stream starts or stops unexpectedly: inspect the event’s auto-start and auto-stop settings and the encoder’s corresponding behavior. Test the controls before the next scheduled broadcast.
- The stream is interrupted and does not recover: follow the station’s tested restart or failover procedure, check the encoder and network, and confirm the event remains usable in Live Control Room. Do not rely on an untested recovery assumption.
Or let it run in the cloud
For an uploaded radio recording or playlist that should loop as a YouTube livestream, StreamNeo is an alternative to keeping a local encoder computer running. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud; it is for YouTube and does not broadcast a live microphone or camera. Learn more at StreamNeo.
