Check the preview, audio, picture and stream health, and review the replay’s visibility after you end the test.
Before you begin: confirm live-streaming access
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its general live-streaming guidance also says creators must be at least 16. Check that Live Control Room is available for the channel you plan to use before preparing the session. YouTube’s live-streaming overview explains eligibility.
Create the stream and make it private
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open the Stream tab. Create a stream or select the one you intend to test. Review its title and other details. Manage live stream settings covers the Studio workflow.
- Set visibility to Private before starting the encoder. YouTube offers Public, Private and Unlisted visibility, and its guidance recommends Private or Unlisted for personal streams. Public is the default for adults, so do not assume a new stream is private.
- Choose based on who should be able to view the test: Private is for a closed audience; Unlisted is a separate visibility option. They are not interchangeable, so use the setting that matches your intended access.
Connect the encoder with your stream key
- In YouTube Live Control Room, find the stream’s server URL and stream key.
- If your encoder offers a YouTube destination, select it and follow its connection prompts. Otherwise, copy YouTube’s server or stream URL into the encoder’s server/RTMP field and copy the key into its Stream key field.
- Start the encoder so it sends the feed to YouTube. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, check it, then select Go live when ready.
Treat the stream key like a password: it identifies the destination and lets YouTube accept the encoder’s feed. Do not reveal it in screen recordings, chat or a public tutorial. If it is exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room; replace the old key in the encoder before streaming again. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
Test the meditation audio and picture
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast, checking the preview and stream health, and monitoring quality. Apply that to the actual meditation format: include the planned voice, ambience or silence, and check that the audio remains clear and the visual is framed as intended. These are practical checks for this kind of session, not YouTube-prescribed audio targets. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend a test broadcast.

- Watch the Live Control Room preview for the correct picture and sound before going live.
- Check stream health while the encoder is sending the feed.
- Verify playback on another device or watch page rather than relying only on the encoder’s local preview.
Keep the connection stable and choose sensible latency
YouTube recommends keeping total stream bitrate within available upload capacity and leaving 20% headroom. If using primary and backup streams, account for both bitrates. Check upload speed rather than treating download speed as a guide to upload capacity; network interruptions can break a stream. YouTube’s streaming guidance covers network capacity.
Latency is the delay between capture and playback. YouTube notes that lowering it can increase buffering. A one-way meditation test usually does not need fast audience interaction, so favor stable playback over the lowest possible delay and confirm the result on another device. End the test and check the replay
- End the broadcast through the Studio workflow, then stop the encoder.
- Open the saved stream in YouTube Studio and check its visibility. Change the replay to Private or delete it if that is appropriate for your test.
- Do not rely on an archive for a very long stream: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. YouTube’s archive help page explains the limits.
Troubleshooting a private test
- Live Control Room is unavailable: verify that the channel meets YouTube’s verification and restriction requirements, and that the creator meets the stated minimum age.
- No preview appears: confirm the encoder is sending to the correct YouTube server URL and that the matching stream key is in its key field. If the key was reset, update the encoder with the new one.
- The preview or playback buffers or drops: check upload capacity, leave the recommended 20% headroom, and review stream health. A download-speed result alone does not establish sufficient upload capacity.
- The test or replay is visible to the wrong audience: check visibility before sending the feed and inspect the archive after ending. Live and replay privacy should not be assumed to match without checking.
