CapCut’s basic editing workflow is: create a project, import or select clips, arrange and trim them on the timeline, add any finishing elements you need, review the result, and export. The buttons differ between mobile and desktop, so follow the steps for the version you are using.

Start a project and add your clips

On desktop

  1. Open CapCut and create a new project.

  2. Import your video and audio files, or drag them into the project. CapCut’s desktop workflow guide covers project setup and the editing tools.

On mobile

  1. Open CapCut and tap New project.

  2. Select the clips you want from your device, then add them to the project. The mobile starting point is clip selection; the desktop workflow starts by importing media into a project. See CapCut’s beginner tutorial for its mobile workflow.

Arrange, trim, and frame the footage

Put clips in the order you want them to appear. Play the sequence and move the playhead to the point where a clip should be cut. Select the clip and split it, then remove the section you do not want. Repeat as needed to tighten the edit.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Adjust framing if necessary by cropping, rotating, or flipping a clip. CapCut also documents freeze and reverse tools. These are optional: use them when they serve the edit, rather than adding effects just because they are available. The basic tools guide and desktop steps describe these controls.

Add text, captions, audio, and transitions

Once the cuts work, add only the finishing elements the video needs. CapCut’s desktop toolset includes text, captions, audio, transitions, effects, filters, and stickers. A transition can smooth a change between shots; text or audio can provide context, but neither is required for every clip.

Generate desktop auto captions

  1. Open Captions > Auto captions.

  2. Choose the spoken language and generate the captions.

  3. Review the wording and timing against the video. Correct mistakes before export; generated captions are not guaranteed to be accurate.

CapCut’s desktop caption instructions explain this path. Button placement and feature access can vary by version.

Use keyframes and advanced tools when the edit calls for them

Keyframes define how a property changes over time. Set a property at one point in the clip, move the playhead, then set a different value; CapCut animates the change between the two points. The documented examples include Position, Scale, Rotation, and Opacity. For instance, changing Scale between two keyframes can create a gradual zoom. See CapCut’s keyframe guide.

Other desktop options include masks, blend modes, color adjustments, and speed curves. They are useful for specific visual or motion effects, but are not prerequisites for a clean basic edit. CapCut’s tool overview describes these advanced controls.

Review and export the finished video

  1. Watch the complete edit from beginning to end. Check the cuts, framing, audio, text, and caption timing, and fix any issues you find.

Mobile or desktop: which workflow fits?

Choose It fits when Consider
Mobile Your footage is already on your phone and you want to select clips directly from the device. Follow mobile-specific instructions; desktop panel names and layout may not match.
Desktop You are working with media on a computer or want to use the desktop timeline and panels. Use desktop-specific guides for importing, captions, and export controls.

For a straightforward clip, concentrate on ordering, splitting, removing unwanted sections, and framing. Reach for keyframes, masks, color adjustments, or speed curves only when the result needs them.

Feature access and practical limits

CapCut’s official guide says most features are free, while some Pro tools require a subscription to export their output. The current paywall, price, and regional availability are not established here; check the feature and export flow in your own app before basing a project on a subscription-gated tool. Exact controls and export choices can also change across versions and devices.

Keep an edited video live on YouTube

If your finished CapCut video is intended to play continuously as a YouTube live stream, editing is only one part of the workflow: you also need a way to keep the stream running. StreamNeo is a cloud service by Yorker Media for looping uploaded videos on YouTube, rather than broadcasting a live camera feed. You upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream; its cloud keeps the video running without leaving a computer, OBS, or home connection on. See StreamNeo for details.

Before uploading, make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other material you use, and review YouTube’s copyright and reused-content rules. A live format does not itself grant permission to use someone else’s work.
