You can’t add an end screen to an active YouTube livestream in the way you add an overlay. You can add one to the stream’s video archive in YouTube Studio, then use a relevant video or playlist and a subscribe prompt to guide viewers to what comes next. The important catch for a 24/7 broadcast is that YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, so don’t assume one continuous stream will leave you with a complete video to edit.
Can you add an end screen to a YouTube live stream?
YouTube’s documented end-screen workflow is for a video, including a livestream archive—not an element configured on the active broadcast. Once an archive exists, you can edit its ending in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s guidance says, “Feature elements that are relevant to the video.” YouTube Help: Add end screens to videos.
That distinction matters for a channel that broadcasts continuously: an end screen can help viewers move on after a captured stream ends, but it cannot reliably bridge a stream segment that YouTube did not archive.
Make sure the stream produces an editable archive
YouTube says a stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its guidance states, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” The threshold is not a promise that every shorter stream will produce a complete archive. Check the result in Studio before planning an end screen around it. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Use manageable broadcast sessions. If you need editable archives, break a 24/7 schedule into sessions under 12 hours. This is a practical response to YouTube’s archive warning, not a guarantee of channel growth or archive capture.
- Verify each archive. After a session, find it in YouTube Studio and confirm that the portion you need is present before editing.
- Keep a local recording backup. YouTube recommends a local archive as a backup. This is especially useful if the online archive is missing or incomplete.
YouTube says live archives are uploaded automatically by default. Its live-promotion guidance recommends setting a suitable archive to Public to help it reach viewers later, organizing archives and highlights into playlists, and making appropriate clips available. Treat these as platform recommendations, not guaranteed growth tactics. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams.
How to add an end screen to a live stream archive
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the stream archive you want to edit.
- Open Editor, choose End Screen, and add the elements you want to use.
- Set the timing and placement, preview the end of the archive, then save your changes.
- Choose destinations that fit what the viewer just watched. A related video or playlist can offer a useful next watch; add a Subscribe element when asking for a subscription makes sense.
For a standard 16:9 video, YouTube allows up to four end-screen elements; other aspect ratios may allow fewer. Available elements include a video or playlist, Subscribe, another channel, and an external website for creators in the YouTube Partner Program. YouTube recommends considering the last 20 seconds when editing. Viewers can hide end screens, and they do not appear in some contexts, including mobile web (except iPad mobile web), YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, Flash videos, and 360 videos. End screens are unavailable on videos set as Made for Kids. Check YouTube Help: Add end screens to videos for current eligibility and display details.

Choose elements that give viewers a useful next step
Use the end screen to continue the viewer’s interest rather than filling every available slot. If the stream focused on a game, a relevant guide, highlight, or playlist is a more direct next step than an unrelated upload. A Subscribe prompt can sit alongside that destination when it suits the moment.
- Video: Send viewers to a closely related upload when there is one clear next watch.
- Playlist: Use a playlist when viewers are likely to want more sessions or highlights on the same game or topic.
- Subscribe: Offer the prompt as an option, not a substitute for a compelling destination.
- Another channel or external website: Add these only when they serve the viewer’s next step; YouTube limits external website elements to creators in the YouTube Partner Program.
Keep the ending legible: leave visual space for the elements, give viewers time to act, and use a clear spoken or on-screen call to action. Preview the final seconds so the elements do not obscure important gameplay or compete with each other.

Measure whether the end screen is helping
For an individual archive, open its Analytics and review the Engagement report’s End screen element click rate. Compare relevant archives and destinations rather than drawing conclusions from one result. A click-rate change does not by itself prove that the end screen caused a change in views or subscribers. See YouTube Help: Check your YouTube Analytics data.
Put those clicks in the wider viewer journey. YouTube’s live analytics guidance points creators to appeal signals such as impressions and click-through rate, engagement such as views, and satisfaction such as average view duration. Traffic sources and search terms can help show how viewers found the content. Compare like with like—streams with similar subjects and formats—so differences in audience interest are not mistaken for an end-screen effect. See YouTube Help: Check your live stream metrics.
