When you want to reveal the outcome, end the poll from the banner at the top of chat. The results then appear in chat.

Open the chat window for your live stream or Premiere.

Select Create a poll and set up the poll in the controls shown.

When you are ready to close voting, select End poll in the banner at the top of chat. YouTube says the results then appear in chat.

Create and end a poll in the YouTube app

Sign in to the YouTube app and start a live stream.

In the chat window, tap Add, then Create a poll.

To close voting and show the results in chat, tap End poll in the banner at the top of chat.
The desktop and Android instructions are documented in YouTube Help’s live chat instructions. The labels and availability can vary as YouTube changes its interface; if the control is missing, check the chat controls available on your account.

Make each vote matter to the stream
A poll is most useful when it gives viewers a clear choice that can shape what happens next. YouTube’s creator guidance suggests asking viewers to choose what you do next, such as selecting the next gameplay challenge.

Close the loop: tell viewers when you are ending the poll, read the result, and explain what comes next.

A practical hosting rhythm is to introduce the choice aloud, give viewers a short chance to vote, end the poll when the result can guide the stream, and follow through. That is a hosting approach, not a platform-required sequence. Avoid asking for a decision you are not willing or able to act on.

Know where polls fit in YouTube interaction
Polls are part of Live Chat, where viewers interact in real time during a stream or Premiere. YouTube says Live Chat appears on watch pages, not in embedded players. A viewer watching an embedded player may therefore need to open the YouTube watch page to participate.

YouTube documents limits of up to 11 chat messages every 30 seconds and 200 characters per message. Those are limits for chat messages, not stated limits on poll votes. Subscribers-only chat can also restrict who can access some Live Chat features.

Keep a busy chat manageable
A poll does not require a moderator, but a fast-moving chat can make it harder to host and respond at the same time. YouTube recommends assigning moderators and documents tools for managing Live Chat. For guidance, see YouTube Help: Moderate live chat.
What YouTube’s poll instructions do not establish
YouTube’s cited help pages explain how to create and end a poll, but do not establish a universal option-count limit, duration setting, eligibility matrix, vote-change rule, demographic breakdown, export method, or persistent analytics specification. Do not plan a stream around those controls unless they are visible in your own chat interface.
The help pages also do not quantify an effect of polls on engagement, watch time, retention, or audience growth. A poll can make a choice interactive; it does not guarantee a particular performance result.
