Ranger follows you and attacks nearby enemies; you can also order it to defend a position and call it back. The default inputs differ by platform, and your bindings may have been remapped.
Unlock and call in Ranger
EA’s Ranger guide says Ranger unlocks at Rank 5. Once available, open the call-in system using the default input for your platform:

After opening the call-in system, select Ranger if it is available and choose a delivery location. EA’s call-in system guide lists B, hold RB, and hold R1 as the PC, Xbox, and PlayStation defaults, respectively.
Give Ranger orders
Let it follow and support you
Ranger’s basic behavior is to follow the player and target nearby enemies. Use it as nearby support rather than expecting it to replace your own combat role; EA describes it as a light anti-infantry unit.

Send it to defend a position, then recall it
Use the platform-specific defend and return inputs in the table. On console, the defend command is issued through the CommoRose. EA also describes scouting and self-destruct as Ranger command concepts, but its how-to guide’s listed controls cover the defend and return sequence above.
Know Ranger’s limits
Ranger can be damaged by enemy fire, explosives, and EMP. Calling it in is also a choice among the available call-in options, rather than a free addition to every other option. EA’s design briefing describes a limit on how many call-ins are available at once, but current availability can vary by mode or later game updates; the briefing does not establish a universal current limit. Fix controls that do not match
The inputs above are defaults, not guaranteed bindings for every player. EA’s PC control reference and PS5 control reference document editable controls, including the Call-in Tablet. If an input does not work, open the in-game control settings and check the binding for the call-in system or the relevant Ranger command. EA’s Update 3.2.0 notes also discuss controller-default changes and advise players to review controls, so a listed default may not reflect your current setup.
