To run a continuous YouTube playlist stream with Upstream, upload your prerecorded videos, add them to a playlist, select Loop Continuously, connect the intended YouTube channel, and start the stream or schedule it. Upstream says it plays the files from its servers, so your computer can be turned off after the stream starts. For YouTube, Upstream recommends its YouTube Connect setup; manual RTMP is an alternative if you prefer to configure the receiving stream in YouTube Studio yourself.

Before you start

  • An Upstream account and the video files you plan to broadcast.
  • A YouTube channel you can connect to Upstream, or a YouTube stream key if you will use manual RTMP.
  • Permission to broadcast every video, music track, image, and other element in the files. A tool’s ability to loop a file does not grant rights to use it or guarantee that YouTube will allow or monetize the stream.

For a gaming channel, check rights for the game footage as well as any soundtrack, overlays, or other material you added. Upstream’s documentation makes the creator responsible for the content and applicable destination rules; it does not establish whether a particular game publisher or YouTube will permit a specific use. See Upstream’s live-streaming FAQ.

Choose how Upstream will connect to YouTube

Method What you do Best fit
YouTube Connect Link the Google account and channel in Upstream, then let Upstream handle stream control and metadata through the connection. Most YouTube-only setups; Upstream recommends this route and it avoids copying an RTMP key.
Manual RTMP Set up the receiving stream in YouTube Studio, copy/select the correct stream key in Upstream, and configure YouTube’s start behavior. Creators who prefer not to grant YouTube Connect access or want to manage the YouTube receiving stream themselves.

These routes and their setup are described in Upstream’s Quick Start Guide and YouTube Connect guide.

Set up and start the playlist

  1. Create a stream and connect the destination. In Upstream, create a new stream and select YouTube. Choose Connect with YouTube, select the Google account and channel you intend to use, and grant the requested permissions. If the account has several channels, verify the selected channel before continuing. If you do not want to grant those permissions, use manual RTMP instead.
  2. Add your media. Upload prerecorded video files. For a video playlist, Upstream’s guide specifies files that already contain their audio. Alternatively, use a video or image as the background and build a separate audio playlist; the audio list can be played in order or shuffled. Upstream says playlist edits can be published while a stream is live. The Quick Start Guide covers these playlist options.
  3. Set the playback behavior. Choose Loop Continuously so the playlist starts again after its last item. A different playback choice can make the playlist play once and stop rather than repeat.
  4. Choose when it runs. Start the stream manually, or configure a one-time, recurring, or back-to-back schedule. Upstream documents daily, weekly, and monthly recurring schedules, as well as cycles separated by pauses. Check the selected schedule’s time and duration before saving it.
  5. Start or save the schedule. With YouTube Connect, Upstream says to save the schedule and let it start automatically. For a manual RTMP setup, create or schedule the receiving stream in YouTube Studio’s Manage area and enable Auto-start. If the Upstream schedule has an end time, enable Auto-stop in YouTube as well. Follow the relevant route in Upstream’s schedule instructions.
  6. Verify playback before relying on it. Confirm the intended channel, media, loop setting, and schedule. For manual RTMP, check that the selected key belongs to the receiving stream and that Auto-start is on. Upstream recommends testing with a private or unlisted stream first.

Pick a schedule that matches the stream

A continuous loop and a continuous schedule are separate decisions: the playlist setting determines what happens when its last item finishes, while the schedule determines when the broadcast starts and, if configured, ends.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Keep it running: use Loop Continuously and a schedule that does not end, or start it manually. Upstream says an all-month stream requires a paid plan with unlimited streaming hours. Its FAQ describes the free plan as including 24 streaming hours per month for testing or shorter broadcasts; confirm the current plan terms before relying on that allowance.
  • Repeat on a timetable: choose a one-time or recurring schedule if the stream should begin at set times. Upstream also describes back-to-back cycles with pauses.
  • End after a chosen period: Upstream’s scheduling guide offers custom duration, a duration just under 12 hours, and ending at the total playlist duration for one-time or recurring schedules. Its guide describes the just-under-12-hour option as making a livestream archivable; YouTube’s current archive behavior can change, so do not rely on an archive without checking YouTube’s current rules.
  • Do not confuse “Play Once and End” with looping: Upstream says that mode does not allow a scheduled end time. If you need a repeating playlist with a scheduled end, select Loop Continuously and set the schedule duration instead.

Manual RTMP: the extra YouTube Studio steps

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live receiving stream from the Manage area.
  2. Choose the stream key for that receiving stream and enter/select the matching key in Upstream. Treat the key as private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to that stream.
  3. Enable Auto-start in YouTube Studio so the scheduled Upstream feed can begin the broadcast.
  4. If your Upstream schedule has a defined end time, enable Auto-stop in YouTube Studio so the receiving stream ends with it.
  5. Run a private or unlisted test and confirm that the right channel receives the video before making the stream public.

Upstream’s setup pages do not specify a universal bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval for this playlist workflow. Those are not safe to guess: use the current requirements shown for your YouTube stream and the settings exposed by your encoder or service. The key operational distinction in Upstream’s documentation is whether you use its YouTube Connect control path or configure the YouTube RTMP receiver yourself.

Troubleshoot common setup failures

  • The stream starts on the wrong channel: an account may contain multiple YouTube channels. Reopen the connection or receiving-stream settings and verify the selected channel before broadcasting.
  • A scheduled manual RTMP stream does not start: check that the correct receiving stream and key are selected, then confirm YouTube Studio’s Auto-start is enabled. For YouTube Connect, confirm the intended channel remains connected and the schedule was saved.
  • The stream ends after the playlist finishes: check the playlist’s playback mode. Loop Continuously, not a play-once mode, is required to repeat the list.
  • The stream ends earlier or later than intended: check the schedule type, timezone, duration option, and any YouTube Auto-stop setting against the intended end time.
  • Video or audio is missing or in the wrong order: confirm the uploaded files and playlist composition. If using a separate audio list with a video or image background, check whether it is set to ordered or shuffled playback.
  • The stream cannot run for the intended duration: check the current Upstream plan allowance. Upstream describes its free plan as 24 streaming hours per month and says an all-month stream needs a paid plan with unlimited streaming hours; verify current terms because plan details can change.
  • Content is claimed, blocked, or not eligible for monetization: review the rights for each video, soundtrack, image, and other included material, then consult YouTube’s current policies. A successful technical test does not settle copyright, reused-content, or monetization eligibility.
