You can’t use WeMod directly on an Xbox console or with Xbox Cloud Gaming. WeMod may work with a game installed on a Windows PC through the Xbox app, but only when WeMod has a trainer for that exact game version and storefront.
What “Xbox” means for WeMod
Xbox console games, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and games installed through the Xbox app on Windows run in different places. WeMod’s community support distinguishes consoles from games available through the Xbox app on PC: “WeMod does not work with consoles, it works with the games available through the Xbox app on PC.” That sentence appears in a WeMod community support reply by Chris, whose formal role is not established. How to use WeMod with an Xbox app game on PC
- Install the game locally. Use the Xbox app on a Windows PC and download the PC version of the game. Xbox lists Windows 10/11, version 22H2 or higher, as the Xbox PC app requirement; individual games can have additional requirements. The app presents downloading PC games and cloud play as separate options. [Xbox PC app]
- Check WeMod’s current listing for the game. Confirm that the title is covered and check the platform or storefront label. WeMod community guidance says the platform icon indicates which version a trainer is made for. Availability can change, so use the current listing rather than assuming every Xbox app game is supported. [WeMod game listings] [WeMod community support]
- Match the trainer to your installed version. A trainer for one storefront is not automatically compatible with another. In a 2020 support-thread example, a Steam trainer for Company of Heroes 2 did not work with the Windows/Xbox Game Pass version; that example illustrates the compatibility issue, not the game’s current trainer availability. - Use WeMod with the locally running game. The supported case is a game installed and running on your Windows PC, with a compatible trainer available. Do not expect the same steps to work for a console session or a cloud-streamed game. [WeMod community support]
Why WeMod does not work with Xbox Cloud Gaming
Cloud gaming runs the game remotely, whereas a locally installed PC game runs on your computer. WeMod needs a local game process to work with; a streamed session does not provide that local process. If WeMod does not detect the Xbox app game
- Recheck the current WeMod listing for the exact title and storefront, and confirm that the trainer matches the installed game version. [WeMod game listings]
- Make sure you installed and launched the PC version locally rather than starting a cloud session. [Xbox PC app]
- Look for current WeMod support information for that specific game and storefront. There is no established, safe universal workaround for detection failures; avoid changing protected WindowsApps permissions or attaching an arbitrary executable. [WeMod community support]
