Windows Task Scheduler can launch your streaming application at a chosen time, but it does not create a YouTube livestream by itself. You must separately schedule the YouTube event, configure an encoder and a playlist playback source, and test that the whole chain works. This guide walks through those steps for a Windows PC in India—and explains what to check before trusting it to run unattended.
What Task Scheduler can—and cannot—do
Task Scheduler runs a task when its trigger occurs; triggers can include a specific time or a recurring schedule. Microsoft describes it as a way to “automatically perform routine tasks on a chosen computer.” It can launch a configured streaming application, but that alone does not confirm that a playlist is playing, the encoder has connected, or YouTube has started publishing the stream. The exact behavior depends on your chosen media player and encoder. Confirm that the player can play and loop the playlist, that its audio and video reach the encoder, and that the encoder can connect to YouTube. Also check whether the application needs an interactive, logged-in Windows session. The sources here do not establish a universal app-specific command or unattended setting, so do not assume that adding an application to a task completes the setup.
1. Schedule the YouTube event
- Open YouTube Studio and select Go Live.
- Open the Manage tab and schedule a stream. Set its title, visibility and other event details, then save it.
- Find the event’s stream settings in Live Control Room. You will need the YouTube stream URL and stream key for your encoder.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not include it in a shared screenshot, public document, or command example.
If this is your first time enabling live streaming on the channel, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Schedule and configure the event early enough to allow for that. 2. Connect the playlist to an encoder
Choose an encoder and a playback method that can send your playlist’s picture and sound into it. Configure the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, then verify the specific software combination can start the media, loop it if needed, and connect to YouTube. Playlist looping and automatic playback are not guaranteed merely because the encoder launches.
Use YouTube’s encoder guidance for protocol, codec, frame rate, keyframes, audio and quality settings rather than copying a bitrate intended for a different resolution or frame rate. YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS and constant-bitrate encoding; the appropriate bitrate depends on the video settings and the upload connection available to the PC. Test with movement and audio similar to the intended playlist, and choose a quality your connection can sustain. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- Confirm the player produces both video and audio.
- Confirm the encoder receives both, not just the video preview.
- Confirm the encoder connects to the intended YouTube event and stream key.
- Check the app’s documentation for whether launching it starts playback and whether it requires a logged-in desktop session.
3. Create a scheduled Windows task
- Open the Start menu, search for Task Scheduler, and launch it.
- Choose Create Basic Task and give the task a recognizable name, such as “Start YouTube playlist stream.”
- Choose the trigger that matches your schedule, such as a one-time date and time or a recurring daily trigger. Set the trigger for the local date and time you intend.
- For the action, choose Start a program and select the configured streaming application.
- Complete the wizard and inspect the task’s trigger and next run time. If the application needs arguments or a particular working folder to load the playlist, use only instructions verified in that application’s own documentation; do not guess command-line options.
- Run a rehearsal using the actual account and machine that will host the stream. Verify the task starts the right application and that the complete YouTube workflow succeeds.
The available Microsoft documentation explains scheduled application launches, but does not validate settings for a particular encoder or playlist player. In particular, verify whether your application works when launched by the task in the chosen Windows logon context before selecting an option such as running only when a user is logged on or running whether a user is logged on or not.
4. Check sleep, wake, and India time
If the PC may be asleep
A task can be configured to wake a computer, but whether it wakes successfully depends on Windows power settings and the PC’s hardware and firmware. Microsoft’s community support answer points to the task’s wake option and Windows’ Allow wake timers power setting; treat that as guidance to test, not a guarantee for every machine. If you are scheduling from India
There is no special India-specific Task Scheduler procedure established by the Microsoft references here. Check that Windows is set to the intended local time zone, then inspect the task’s displayed next run time and verify it against the event time shown in YouTube Studio. Do not assume the task will use IST if the PC’s time-zone configuration says otherwise.
5. Rehearse and monitor the full stream
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use the Live Control Room preview to confirm the correct event, video and audio before going live, and monitor stream health during the broadcast. For an unattended schedule, test each link in the chain: the task trigger, application launch, playlist playback and looping, audio routing, encoder connection, YouTube preview, and the event’s start behavior. A successful test of the task alone proves only that Windows ran the task—not that viewers can see the intended stream.

Before scheduling, make sure you have the rights needed to livestream every video and audio track in the playlist. A scheduled start does not change YouTube’s copyright rules, and the sources cited here do not establish that a particular playlist is cleared for use.
