A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To check for missing or corrupted game files, open Steam’s Library, choose the game’s Properties, select Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files. Steam checks the installation and repairs files when needed; the check can take several minutes. If it does not solve the problem, use the symptom-specific steps below rather than assuming every launch failure is caused by damaged files.
Verify a game’s files in Steam
- Restart your computer, then open Steam.
- Open Library and find the game. Right-click its name, or open its Library page and select the gear icon.
- Choose Properties, then select Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and let the process finish. Steam says it may take several minutes. Steam’s file-verification instructions
- When the check is complete, try launching the game again.
Understand the verification result
A message that one or more files failed verification does not necessarily mean the repair failed. Steam says this can be normal for many games because local configuration files may intentionally not be replaced; in that situation, the message can be ignored. Steam’s file-verification instructions
Verification checks game files; it is not a general test of your drive, memory, network, or computer. If errors recur across files or games, consider broader causes such as drive or memory errors, network conditions, permissions, or software affecting disk and network activity. Steam recommends technical help for advanced drive or memory troubleshooting. Steam’s installation and update troubleshooting guide
Choose the next step by the problem
Downloads or updates fail
If the game will not download or update, Steam lists restarting the client and computer, clearing the download cache, repairing the Steam library folder, changing the download region, and trying the game on another library drive among its troubleshooting options. Choose the step that best matches the error; the Storage interface can repair a library folder, though the exact navigation may change as Steam updates its client. Files verify, but the game still will not launch
Check that your operating system and drivers are up to date, that the computer meets the game’s system requirements, and that non-essential programs are not interfering with Steam or the game. Launch failures can have different causes across hardware and software setups, so file verification may not address the underlying issue. If Steam’s general checklist does not help, contact the game’s developer for in-depth support; use Steam Support for problems specific to the client. Steam’s game-launch troubleshooting guide

Your antivirus reports a threat
Take a malware detection seriously; do not routinely disable antivirus protection. If you are unsure whether an alert is accurate, consult your antivirus provider. Create an exception only when you are confident the detection is a false positive. If a confirmed false positive deleted or corrupted game files, verify the files afterward to restore them. Steam advises against verifying multiple games at once or running verification alongside system-intensive tasks such as disk defragmentation or a virus scan. Let one check finish before starting another, and avoid stacking it with those operations. Steam’s file-verification instructions
