To view a weapon or armor piece’s set bonuses in Nioh 3, open Main Menu > Equipment, highlight a set item, then open its set-bonus details: press C on PC or L2 + Left on the D-pad on PS5, according to a February 9, 2026 guide. The shortcut is reported by a secondary source; the official manual confirms the Equipment menu but does not document these buttons.
How to open a gear item’s set-bonus screen
- Open the Equipment menu. From the Main Menu, select Equipment.
- Highlight a weapon or armor piece. Look for the chain or link icon beside its name; the guide says that marks gear belonging to a set. Not every armor piece is part of a set.
- Switch to set-bonus details. Press C on PC or L2 + Left on the D-pad on PS5. These controls are reported in Sahil Gandhi’s February 9, 2026 Nioh 3 guide; the official Nioh 3 Web Manual does not specify this shortcut. If you have remapped controls or the interface differs after an update, check the on-screen prompts.
- Check the tiers and count. The detail screen lists the set’s bonus thresholds and shows how many matching pieces count toward them.
- Check requirements if a tier is inactive. The guide notes that a stat requirement can prevent a bonus from activating even when you are wearing enough matching pieces.
Check the equipment configuration for your active style
Nioh 3 has separate Samurai Style and Ninja Style equipment configurations, as described in the official manual. Inspect the gear configuration for the style you are using; a set-piece count in one configuration may not describe the other.

How to compare a set item with other gear
A set bonus is only one part of an equipment decision. The official manual identifies different item properties to compare:
- Weapons: Attack, special effects, Break, and Block.
- Armor and accessories: weight, Base Defense, special effects, Toughness, and elemental resistances.
The manual also explains that heavier armor generally slows movement and raises Ki costs for attacks and dodges. Weigh those item-level trade-offs alongside the set’s piece thresholds and any stat requirements; the available sources do not establish a best set or build ranking.
