Haki helps explain why top fighters can sense attacks, hit otherwise elusive opponents, or clash with overwhelming force—but possessing a particular type of Haki does not automatically make someone stronger than every character who lacks it. Strength comparisons have to account for demonstrated abilities, fight outcomes, and circumstances.
What does “Yonko” say about a character’s strength?
“Yonko,” or Emperor, is a story-world title associated with powerful pirates. It signals formidable standing, but the official sources cited here do not provide a numeric scale or a definitive strongest-to-weakest ranking of current and former Emperors. Treating the title as a precise power level goes beyond what it establishes.
When comparing top fighters, use what the story actually depicts. A useful comparison considers several separate factors rather than reducing strength to one ability or one fight:
- Haki: which types a character has demonstrated and how effectively they use them.
- Durability and endurance: what attacks they withstand and how they perform over the course of a battle.
- Offense: the force, range, and circumstances of their attacks.
- Other abilities: Devil Fruits, weapons, and fighting styles that affect a matchup.
- Outcome and context: injuries, allies, objectives, and other conditions surrounding a fight.
These are practical comparison criteria, not an official ranking rubric. A fight is not a controlled test, so a single outcome should not be treated as an absolute measurement of every character’s ability.

What are the three types of Haki?
The three commonly identified types are Observation, Armament, and Conqueror’s Haki. They serve different functions: perception, combat contact and defense, and a rare force of will that can overwhelm opponents and feature in top-level attacks. An official ONE PIECE.com profile feature on Boa Hancock describes her as able to use all three.
Observation Haki: sensing and anticipating
Observation Haki heightens awareness. In the official synopsis for Episode 857, its developed use is explained through Luffy and Katakuri’s fight: it can help locate unseen enemies, sense the number of opponents, and anticipate their next movements. Katakuri uses this perception to read Luffy and evade attacks.

That description supports anticipation, not an assumption that Observation makes someone infallible. What a fighter can perceive and do still depends on the situation and their opponent.
Armament Haki: making attacks connect
Armament Haki has a practical role in combat: it can let a fighter hit or seize a Logia user whose body would otherwise evade ordinary physical attacks, subject to individual weaknesses. The same Episode 857 synopsis explains this function. It does not establish that Armament makes its user invulnerable or automatically superior to an opponent.

Conqueror’s Haki: rare, with applications in major clashes
Conqueror’s Haki is limited to selected individuals. Luffy’s official character profile says it can defeat ordinary opponents without physical contact. That ability to overwhelm ordinary foes is distinct from its use in clashes between powerful fighters.
The official summary for Episode 1028 depicts Kaido attacking with Conqueror’s Haki and Luffy meeting the attack with his own. This Wano scene shows the ability’s relevance in a top-level clash; it does not prove every Yonko uses it identically, or that Haki alone decides every matchup.

Does Conqueror’s Haki make someone stronger?
It is a significant ability: it is rare, can overwhelm ordinary opponents without contact, and is shown in major combat between Kaido and Luffy. But it is not a universal ranking system. Having it does not, by itself, settle who would win against another character or make every other factor irrelevant.
For a fair comparison, separate the question “What Haki has this character demonstrated?” from “How strong is this character overall?” Then weigh Haki control alongside endurance, attacks, other abilities, and the conditions of the relevant fight.

Where to read the Wano clash
The official ONE PIECE.com listing for Volume 100 gives the subtitle “覇王色” and a publication date of September 3, 2021, alongside a synopsis of the Wano conflict involving Kaido. It is a relevant volume for the surrounding story context, not a complete guide to Haki. VIZ’s official One Piece catalog lists licensed chapter access and volume purchasing; availability varies by location and chapter.
The manga is ongoing, so later chapters may add demonstrations of Haki or change who holds the Yonko title. These examples establish specific story functions and clashes, not a permanent roster or current all-character ranking.
