Verdict: The tested HP Victus 15-fa1057ng delivers credible 1080p gaming from its Core i5-13500H and 75 W RTX 4050, but its 250-nit, 45% NTSC screen is a substantial compromise. Buy it only at a clearly discounted price, or plan to use an external monitor, and verify the exact SKU before ordering.
Which HP Victus 15 is under review?
This review covers the HP Victus 15-fa1057ng, not every laptop sold as “Victus 15.” The tested configuration combines Intel’s 13th-generation Raptor Lake-H platform with Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace graphics architecture. HP sells other Victus 15 generations and regional SKUs with different processors, displays, memory, storage and GPUs, including RTX 4060 versions. Check the complete model number and listing specifications before buying. Notebookcheck’s review was published on February 3, 2024; its page was updated February 18, 2026.

Gaming performance: capable 1080p hardware, with a wattage caveat
The RTX 4050 Laptop GPU is intended primarily for 1080p gaming, and the tested 75 W limit places this machine in the budget-to-midrange class rather than the high end. In supported games, DLSS and frame generation can improve apparent frame rates, but those features depend on game support and do not equal native rendering performance. The 6 GB of VRAM is less generous than the 8 GB found on RTX 4060 Laptop models, so demanding new games may require reduced texture quality or other settings.
Do not compare RTX 4050 laptops by name alone. Cooling, BIOS limits, CPU power sharing, memory configuration and Optimus or MUX implementation can produce meaningful differences. The 75 W figure applies specifically to this fa1057ng review unit.

Is the Core i5-13500H fast enough?
The i5-13500H has four performance cores and eight efficiency cores, with a listed sustained power level of 45 W and a short-burst PL2 level of 115 W. It is adequate for ordinary 1080p gaming, where the GPU and its power limit usually matter more than adding CPU cores. It also provides useful headroom for everyday applications and multitasking. Long, CPU-heavy workloads will still depend on the Victus cooling and power profiles rather than on the processor’s headline boost clock alone.
The display is the decisive weakness
Full HD at 144 Hz is a sensible resolution and refresh rate for an RTX 4050. The panel’s quality, however, is much less convincing. A specified 250 nits is dim in a bright room, while 45% NTSC indicates a narrow gamut that is unsuitable for color-sensitive photo or video work. Games, films and desktop content can look noticeably less vivid than on a wider-gamut panel.
Use an external monitor if the internal screen matters for productivity or creative work. Do not assume another Victus 15 has this same panel: confirm brightness, sRGB coverage, refresh rate and panel type for the exact SKU. The review’s summary criticism is effectively “Dim screen.”

Chassis, keyboard and portability
The plastic chassis is budget-oriented and broadly resembles the preceding Victus 15 generation. At 2.326 kg before its approximately 620 g 200 W adapter, it is a desk-first gaming laptop rather than an ultraportable. Keyboard backlighting and a full-size gaming-laptop layout make it practical for play and general use, but the construction and ergonomics are not positioned as premium. Carrying the laptop and charger together weighs almost 3 kg.
Ports and wireless networking
- Two USB-A ports and one USB-C port with DisplayPort support
- HDMI 2.1, RJ-45 Ethernet and a headset/microphone combo jack
- SD-card reader on the tested unit
The review records USB ports limited to 5 Gbit/s and wired networking limited to 1 Gbit/s. Its SD-card test measured approximately 80 MB/s. The source narrative contains an inconsistent statement about card-reader availability; the explicit port listing and card test support the presence of a reader on this fa1057ng.
The tested MediaTek MT7921 adapter supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. Notebookcheck measured throughput below some comparison systems in its test environment. Treat that result as specific to this module and test setup, not as a guarantee for every Victus 15.

Memory, SSD and upgrade planning
Both SO-DIMM slots are occupied by 8 GB modules, so moving beyond 16 GB may require replacing both sticks. The 512 GB SSD is usable but can fill quickly after Windows, applications and several large games. Confirm the exact service manual and SKU before assuming a second M.2 drive or a particular maximum memory capacity.
Battery and everyday mobility
The 70 Wh battery is reasonable for this class, but the machine’s weight and 200 W adapter limit its portability. Gaming away from mains power will reduce performance and shorten runtime. Notebookcheck’s measured battery results should be consulted for a specific workload; no single hour figure represents all usage. Expect the best gaming experience while plugged in.

How it compares with other budget gaming laptops
Notebookcheck’s comparison set includes the Dell G15 5530, Acer Nitro V 15 ANV15-51 and Asus TUF A15 FA507. The meaningful buying differences are not processor branding alone: compare each model’s GPU power limit, display brightness and gamut, cooling behavior, weight, upgrade layout, wireless hardware and price. A nominally similar RTX 4050 can perform differently, while an RTX 4060 system with 8 GB VRAM may offer better long-term value if the price gap is small.

Buying advice in 2026
The approximately €1,000 price in the original review is historical and should not be treated as today’s market price. Evaluate a current or refurbished listing against contemporary RTX 4050 and RTX 4060 laptops, warranty and return terms, and the exact panel specification. A substantial discount can make the fa1057ng attractive for 1080p gaming, especially with an external monitor. Near its old launch positioning, a brighter screen, stronger wireless, faster ports or an RTX 4060 competitor is usually the better comparison.
Who should buy it?
- Consider it when the exact fa1057ng (or a clearly matching configuration) is heavily discounted, 1080p gaming is the priority, and you accept the dim panel or already own an external monitor.
- Compare or avoid it if you work in bright rooms, edit photos or video, need high-speed USB or 2.5 Gb Ethernet, prioritize portability, or can spend only slightly more for an RTX 4060 laptop.
- Always verify the full SKU, screen brightness and gamut, GPU wattage, RAM layout, SSD options, keyboard region, charger and warranty.
The HP Victus 15-fa1057ng remains a competent 1080p gaming machine, but the 250-nit, 45% NTSC display and 6 GB GPU memory prevent a blanket recommendation. Its value depends on a substantial discount and on whether your setup can work around the screen.
