hpgt53tk.dll is usually an Avision scanner-software file, not a Windows system DLL. If Windows says it is missing or cannot load it, reinstall the complete Avision package for your exact scanner model instead of downloading the DLL by itself.
What hpgt53tk.dll belongs to
Public file metadata describes hpgt53tk.dll as “USB DLL” and associates it with “(Windows)Avision Scanner.” The publisher is sometimes shown as “Avisioin,” which appears to be a misspelling of Avision, the scanner manufacturer.
There is no verified evidence that this file ships with Windows, Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Its exact installation path, bitness, version, size, digital signature, and supported scanner models are not publicly confirmed.

Error messages you may see
Reported forms include:
- “This application failed to start because hpgt53tk.dll was not found.”
- “The file hpgt53tk.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “The program can’t start because hpgt53tk.dll is missing on your computer.”
- “Error loading hpgt53tk.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load hpgt53tk.dll.”
These are commonly reported forms rather than confirmed official Avision messages.
The phrase “specified module could not be found” needs special attention. It can mean that hpgt53tk.dll itself is absent, but it can also mean that Windows found the file and could not load one of its dependent DLLs. Copying another file with the same name will not solve the second case.
Fix 1: Reinstall the correct Avision scanner package
This is the safest and most likely repair.
Avision scanner software commonly supplies TWAIN or WIA components along with model-specific utilities such as Button Manager, AVScan, PaperPort support, or ISIS components. The correct package depends on the scanner model and the Windows installation.
1. Identify the exact scanner
Check one or more of these locations:
- Read the model label on the scanner.
- Open Settings and select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking Start and selecting it.
- Expand Imaging devices, Cameras, Universal Serial Bus controllers, and Other devices.
- Check the scanner application’s About screen if it still opens.
- Use the model shown on the original invoice or documentation.
Do not select a driver merely because its name contains “Avision.” Flatbed, sheet-fed, portable, and document scanners can require different packages.
2. Get the package from Avision
Open Avision’s official Download Center and select the exact model. Choose a current or certified Windows package that matches your operating system.
Avision product pages can provide separate or bundled components for the scanner driver, TWAIN, WIA, ISIS, Button Manager, AVScan, or other utilities. Install the package intended for your model rather than searching for hpgt53tk.dll separately.
3. Remove the damaged installation
Before reinstalling:
- Disconnect the scanner’s USB cable if the model’s installation instructions require driver-first setup.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Avision and related scanner software.
- Select the relevant entry, choose the three-dot menu, and click Uninstall.
- Remove old Avision utilities that clearly belong to the same scanner installation.
- Restart Windows.
If the Avision application is not listed, continue with the installer. A damaged installation can leave files behind even when its uninstall entry is missing.
4. Install the official package
- Run the downloaded Avision installer.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Follow the model-specific setup instructions.
- Connect the scanner only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Reconnect the scanner if it was disconnected.
- Open the Avision application and test a scan.
You can also use Avision Update for Windows when it supports your model. If the installer offers both a latest and a certified package, start with the package recommended for your Windows version and scanner.

The repair worked if the application opens without the DLL message and the scanner appears as a selectable device. Test both the Avision application and another TWAIN- or WIA-compatible scanning program if available.

If the installer still fails
Repeat the uninstall and restart, then install again without connecting the scanner until prompted. Also check whether an older Avision utility is being launched from a shortcut or startup entry.
If only one scanning application fails while the scanner works elsewhere, repair or reinstall that application. The problem may be its own incomplete installation rather than the scanner driver.
For hands-on driver hunting across several devices, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its repair and driver installation features require the full version, while reinstalling the exact Avision package remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 2: Check Windows architecture and driver compatibility
A 64-bit Windows installation does not mean every vendor DLL must be 64-bit. The application loading the DLL and the complete Avision package determine the required architecture.
Do not replace a file based on a conflicting listing that calls it either 32-bit or x64. The public metadata is inconsistent, and no verified Avision record establishes the bitness of hpgt53tk.dll.
Check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Read System type under Device specifications.
Then verify that the Avision download supports your Windows release and architecture. If the scanner is old, the latest package may not be the right package; Avision may provide a certified driver for that model.
A wrong package can produce errors such as:
- “This app can’t run on your PC.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located.”
- “The file is not designed to run on Windows.”
- Error
0xc000007b.
If you see one of these messages, uninstall the package, restart Windows, and install the model-specific Avision package again. Do not mix files from different releases.

Antivirus software may quarantine a scanner DLL after an update or after the file changes.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Look for an event mentioning
hpgt53tk.dll, Avision, or the scanner installer. - Check the detected file path and detection details.
Only restore or allow the file if you can confirm that it came from the official Avision installation and the installer is legitimate. Scan the installer and the restored file with current security tools first.
Microsoft explains the Protection History workflow in its Windows Security Protection History documentation.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix 4: Repair or reinstall the device in Device Manager
Use this step when the scanner is missing from Windows or appears with a warning icon.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging devices, Cameras, Universal Serial Bus controllers, and Other devices.
- Right-click the Avision scanner or the device with a warning icon.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers a checkbox to remove the driver, select it only when you intend to remove the damaged package.
- Click Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the official Avision driver again.
- Reconnect the scanner when instructed.
Microsoft’s driver reinstallation guidance recommends obtaining replacement drivers from the hardware manufacturer and matching the Windows architecture.
If the scanner remains absent from Device Manager, inspect the USB cable, USB port, power supply, and scanner status. A device that is not detected at all usually indicates a connection, hardware, or device-driver problem rather than a missing DLL.
Fix 5: Determine whether a dependency is missing
Windows loads a DLL from the application directory and other locations according to its DLL search behavior. A message naming hpgt53tk.dll does not prove that this file is the only missing component.
If reinstalling the complete Avision package does not help:
- Check the Avision installation log for another named DLL.
- Note whether the error occurs only in one application.
- Confirm that the application and scanner driver were installed from the same package family.
- Use a trusted dependency-analysis tool only if you are comfortable interpreting its results.
- Do not download individual dependencies from random DLL sites.
A dependency problem is more likely when hpgt53tk.dll is visibly present in the Avision application directory but Windows still reports that the specified module cannot be found.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when other Windows programs also report missing or corrupted system files, or when Windows itself behaves abnormally. They are not a guaranteed way to restore a vendor DLL that was never part of Windows.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Avision application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker instructions.

If the scanner worked recently and the failure began after a driver update, software removal, or Windows change, System Restore may undo the change.
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the scanner stopped working.
- Select Next, review the affected programs, and click Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
Microsoft states that System Restore can roll back system files, registry settings, drivers, and installed programs without changing personal files. Its System Restore documentation explains the process and limitations.

After restoration, reinstall the correct Avision package if Windows removed or reverted the scanner driver.
What not to do
Do not download hpgt53tk.dll separately
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, an incompatible architecture, an outdated file, or a file altered from its original package. Even a clean copy may fail because the application needs a matching dependency or registry and configuration files.
Use the official Avision Download Center or Avision Update for Windows instead.
Do not copy the file into System32 or SysWOW64
There is no verified evidence that hpgt53tk.dll belongs in either Windows system directory. Placing an application DLL there can create version conflicts, architecture problems, and security risks.
Windows normally searches the application directory and other locations according to its documented DLL search order. The correct installer should place the file where the Avision application expects it.
Do not run regsvr32 automatically
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. hpgt53tk.dll is described as a USB DLL, not as an established self-registering COM component.

Running a command such as this is not a general DLL repair:
regsvr32 hpgt53tk.dll
It may produce an error stating that the module was loaded but the entry point could not be found. Microsoft explains this type of failure in its DllRegisterServer guidance.

FAQ
Is hpgt53tk.dll a Windows file?
There is no verified evidence that it is. Available metadata associates it with Avision scanner software.
Which Avision scanner uses it?
No exact scanner model is publicly verified. Identify your model first, then install its official package.
Is “Avisioin” the real publisher?
Avision is the correct company name. “Avisioin” appears to be a misspelling in third-party metadata.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsShould I register hpgt53tk.dll?
Usually no. Reinstall the complete Avision package instead. Registration applies only when the DLL was designed to expose the required registration entry point.
Why does Windows say the specified module could not be found when the file is present?
A dependent DLL may be missing, the file may be incompatible, or the application may be loading a different installation. Reinstall the complete model-specific package rather than copying another DLL.
Will SFC restore hpgt53tk.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while this appears to be a third-party Avision file.
What if the scanner is not listed in Device Manager?
Check the cable, port, power, and scanner hardware. Then remove and reinstall the Avision device driver. If Windows never detects the hardware, the issue is broader than this DLL.
What information should I give Avision support?
Provide the exact scanner model, Windows version and architecture, the complete error text, whether antivirus quarantined a file, and any relevant installer or Device Manager details.
