hprasdui.dll is a historical Windows NT printer-driver interface file, not a general-purpose Windows runtime such as DirectX or Visual C++. If Windows says it is missing or cannot load, repair the printer driver or legacy application that needs it instead of downloading a random copy of the DLL.
What this file actually does
The filename refers to the Raster Common Printer Driver UI DLL. Historical Windows NT documentation identifies the related raster driver interface as part of the Windows NT printer-driver technology, and early Windows build records list HPRASDUI.DLL with HPRASDD.DLL as Raster Common Printer Driver components.
That history matters. hprasdui.dll is most closely associated with Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP-era printer software, and applications that preserve those older printer components. It is not a file that every current Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation is expected to contain.
Microsoft later moved many non-PostScript printers toward the UniDrv architecture. As a result, a modern Windows installation may use a completely different driver package even when an old printer utility still expects hprasdui.dll.

The filename alone cannot identify the exact printer, application, or installer that originally supplied the file. Common possibilities include:
- An old printer driver or printer-properties utility
- Legacy business, publishing, or network-printing software
- A printer package removed incompletely
- A damaged printer installation
- Antivirus quarantine
- A restored system image containing an old application
- An old application moved to a newer Windows computer
- A missing dependency required by the DLL
There is no verified current Microsoft standalone download package for hprasdui.dll, and no authoritative current version, file size, hash, or Windows 10/11 package has been established for this exact file.

Before changing anything: identify the caller
Do not begin by searching for a replacement DLL. First determine which program is requesting it.
Read the error window carefully
Note the name of the program displayed in the title bar or message. If the error appears while opening printer properties, printing, or installing a printer, the printer package is the leading suspect.
If it appears when launching an old business or publishing application, repair that application as well as the printer driver. Reinstalling only the application may not restore a shared printer component.
Check installed applications
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the printer manufacturer, printer model, print utility, or application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the relevant program.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair first.
- If Repair does not help, select Reset only if you understand that it may remove the program’s local settings.
- If neither option exists, uninstall the old utility and reinstall it from the original manufacturer installation media or official manufacturer support channel.
Do not uninstall a business application before confirming that you have its installer, license information, and required configuration.
Check the printer list
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Review the installed printers.
- Open a printer and note its exact manufacturer and model.
- Remove printers that were recently installed, replaced, or left behind by old software only after confirming they are no longer needed.
The exact model is important. A driver for a similar printer can still contain the wrong architecture or user-interface components.
Fix 1: remove and reinstall the affected printer
This is the most likely fix when the error appears during printing, printer setup, or printer properties.

Remove the printer
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
After restarting, return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
Install the printer again
- Select Add device.
- Wait while Windows searches for the printer.
- Select the correct printer when it appears.
- Follow the installation prompts.
- If Windows does not find it, select the option to add the printer manually.
- Choose the connection type that matches the printer, such as USB, network, or a shared printer.
- When Windows asks for a driver, use Windows Update or Have Disk if you have the manufacturer’s official driver package.
- Select the exact printer model.
- Finish the installation.
- Print a test page from the printer’s settings.

If the old driver remains
Removing the printer does not always remove every old driver package. If the same error returns immediately:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
printui.exe /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Select the old driver associated with the removed printer.
- Select Remove.
- Choose the option to remove the driver and driver package if Windows offers it.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall the correct driver.
Only remove a driver when you are certain it belongs to the obsolete printer. Removing a shared driver can affect other printers using the same package.
Fix 2: install the correct driver for Windows and your hardware
A legacy printer package can fail even when its DLL is genuine. The driver may be intended for an older Windows release, a different processor architecture, or a different printer model.
Check Windows architecture
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Find System type.
A 64-bit Windows installation normally uses 64-bit system files in System32 and 32-bit system files in SysWOW64. Those names are counterintuitive. Do not assume that SysWOW64 contains 64-bit files.
A 32-bit legacy application can run on 64-bit Windows, but it still needs a compatible complete driver and its required dependencies. A random 32-bit DLL is not a valid substitute for a driver package.
Use Device Manager where applicable
Printer drivers are often managed through the printer settings and print-server driver list rather than Device Manager, but Device Manager can expose related hardware or stale printer entries.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, or Imaging devices.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Review the provider, date, and version information.
- If the device is clearly obsolete, select Uninstall Device.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct driver package.
Do not use the Roll Back Driver button unless the error began immediately after a known driver update and the button is available. A rollback is useful for a newly introduced incompatibility, not for restoring an old missing file.

Fix 3: repair the application that requests the DLL
If the error appears when opening a particular program rather than when managing a printer, that program may bundle or expect an old printer component.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Locate the application named in the error.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options and then Repair, if available.
- Start the application again.
- If the error remains, uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from its original installer or the software vendor’s official source.
- Reinstall the required printer driver afterward.
If the application only supports an obsolete Windows release, reinstalling it on Windows 10 or Windows 11 may not be enough. Use a vendor-supported update or run the application in an appropriate supported legacy environment. Do not force an old hprasdui.dll into a modern application directory unless the original vendor specifically instructs you to do so.

Antivirus software may have quarantined a printer component. The detection may be a false positive, but restoring a file blindly is unsafe.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving
hprasdui.dll, the printer installer, or the affected application. - Expand the detection.
- Check its original file path and source.
- Restore it only if you can confirm that it came from a trusted Windows installation or legitimate printer package.
- Reinstall the complete driver package afterward rather than relying on the restored individual file.
Microsoft describes quarantine and restoration in Protection history in the Windows Security app.
If Windows Security quarantines the file again, stop restoring it. Do not create an exclusion until Microsoft or the printer manufacturer has verified the file and the installer. A repeated detection can indicate a modified or unsafe package.
Fix 5: repair Windows system files
Use this step when several Windows components are failing, the problem began after disk damage or an interrupted update, or the printer installation appears to be affected by broader system corruption.
Run DISM first
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Keep the window open even if progress appears slow.

sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Restart Windows afterward, then reinstall the affected printer driver.

- If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, the problem is more likely the third-party printer package or an incompatible legacy application.
- If SFC repaired files, restart and test the printer again.
- If SFC could not repair some files, restart and run DISM again, then run SFC once more.
- If the commands complete successfully but the same printer error remains, remove and reinstall the printer driver rather than repeatedly copying DLLs.
Fix 6: install Windows updates
Updates can repair operating-system components and improve printer compatibility, although they may not restore a historical third-party DLL.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Return to the printer settings and test the device.
Use Microsoft’s Install Windows updates instructions if the update process itself reports an error.
If hprasdui.dll first disappeared immediately after an update, check whether the printer manufacturer has a newer driver. Do not assume that copying the old file back is a safe rollback.
Fix 7: use System Restore after a known system change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after installing a printer driver, application, or update and a restore point exists.

- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the drivers and applications that may be changed.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, drivers, and installed programs while it is designed not to remove personal files. It is not guaranteed to restore a third-party printer package correctly. After the rollback, reinstall the printer driver if necessary. Microsoft’s procedure is documented under System Restore.
Why downloading or registering the DLL is usually wrong
Do not download hprasdui.dll from a random DLL archive or copy it from another computer. That file may have the wrong architecture, an incompatible Windows-era build, missing dependencies, or altered contents. It also does not restore driver registration, catalog signatures, spooler configuration, or the rest of the printer package.

Do not copy it manually into System32, SysWOW64, or an application directory unless the original vendor’s documented installation instructions specifically require that action.
regsvr32 is also not a general DLL repair command. It applies to DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver UI DLL is not automatically a self-registering COM component simply because its filename ends in .dll. Running regsvr32 against the wrong file can produce another error without repairing the printer.

If the error persists
Work through this checklist:
- Record the exact program that displays the error.
- Note the printer manufacturer and model.
- Check whether the error began after a printer installation, removal, update, antivirus event, cleanup operation, or system-image restoration.
- Check whether
hprasdui.dllexists and note its path, but do not replace it manually. - If it is in an unexpected application folder, investigate that application first.
- Check Windows Security Protection history.
- Confirm whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Remove the affected printer.
- Remove only the obsolete associated driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the complete manufacturer or Windows catalogue driver.
- Run DISM and SFC if other Windows components are also failing.
- Inspect startup entries and scheduled tasks if the error appears at every login without an installed printer.
- Consider System Restore if the failure follows a clearly identified recent change.
If the printer works but an old properties window does not, the remaining fault is probably the legacy user-interface component rather than the print spooler. If the application still requires the file after a clean driver installation, update the application or run it in a compatible supported environment.

Is hprasdui.dll a Microsoft file?

No. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency required by hprasdui.dll is missing. An incompatible driver or damaged installation can produce a similar message even when the named file exists.
