When Windows reports that hpzipt12.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, the safest fix is to reinstall the complete HP printer package rather than downloading the DLL by itself.
The file is associated with HP’s legacy Bidi User Mode printer software and has the description SNMP Network Interface (Windows). In this context, SNMP supports printer status and configuration communication. It is not a general Windows networking component, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or .NET file.
Before fixing hpzipt12.dll
Do not download hpzipt12.dll from a random DLL website. A replacement may contain malware, belong to a different HP driver build, use the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture, or fail because another printer-driver dependency is missing. Manual copying also leaves the damaged printer package and its configuration untouched.
The correct source is the official HP printer-support package for your exact model. If you no longer use the printer, removing its old queue and driver is usually safer than restoring the file.

Common loader messages include:
- “The program can’t start because hpzipt12.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading hpzipt12.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “hpzipt12.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The exact wording varies by Windows version and by the program that loads the printer component.
Fix 1: Identify the HP printer and reinstall its complete package
Time needed: 15–30 minutes, plus any download time
This is the most likely fix for hpzipt12.dll. The file is installed as part of HP printer software, so reinstalling the complete package restores the DLL, related files, driver configuration, and printer communication components together.

- Right-click the HP printer and select Printer properties.
- Open Advanced and record the driver name.
If the error appears when no printer is visible, check for stale queues:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printmanagement.msc. - Press Enter.
- Expand Print Servers > [your computer] > Drivers and Printers.
- Look for old HP entries.
Some Windows editions do not include Print Management. In that case, use Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and remove old HP entries there.
Check whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System > About.
- Read System type.
Most current Windows 11 systems are 64-bit. A 64-bit installation can still use a 32-bit legacy printer component for an older application or print path, so do not assume that every HP file must be replaced with a 64-bit version. The driver package must match the printer, Windows release, and print architecture.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDownload the correct HP package
- Open HP’s official Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter the exact printer model.
- Select the installed Windows version when prompted.
- Download Full Feature Software, Full Solution, or the most complete driver package available.
- Right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup wizard.
- Restart Windows if requested.
- Print a test page.
If HP no longer offers a full package for the printer, install the latest driver specifically listed for that model and Windows version. A Windows built-in printer driver may restore basic printing, but it may not restore HP status monitoring or advanced features.

Confirm the result
After restarting:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the HP printer.
- Choose Printer properties.
- Select Print Test Page.
The repair worked if the test page prints and the original application no longer reports hpzipt12.dll. If the installer says the printer already exists, remove the old queue first, restart Windows, and run the HP installer again.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated driver packages when you are hunting through several hardware entries manually; its free scan shows what it found, while driver installation through the full version is optional. For this HP-specific file, reinstalling the exact printer package remains the definitive fix.
Fix 2: Remove the stale HP printer and driver, then reinstall
Time needed: 10–25 minutes
Use this when a normal reinstall leaves the same error. Windows may retain an obsolete HP driver in the print-driver store, causing the new installation to reuse damaged files or incompatible settings.
Remove the printer queue
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected HP printer.
- Click Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
Disconnect the USB cable before reinstalling if the printer is connected by USB. For a network printer, note its network address or hostname first.
Remove the old driver
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printui.exe /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Highlight the obsolete HP driver.
- Click Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that option.
- Restart the computer.
Do not manually delete folders inside C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository. Windows manages that store, and direct modification can damage driver servicing.
After the restart, run the official HP installer again as administrator. Allow the installer to create a fresh printer queue and driver configuration.
If the driver cannot be removed
A driver may be in use by the Print Spooler. Complete the spooler reset in the next section, restart Windows, and try printui.exe /s /t2 again. If the driver is still listed, remove only the HP printer and driver you have positively identified. Do not delete unrelated printer packages.
Fix 3: Reset the Print Spooler
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
The Print Spooler loads printer drivers and manages print jobs. A damaged queue or stuck spooler process can make a valid hpzipt12.dll appear unavailable.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Stop.
- Press Windows + R again.
- Enter:
%WINDIR%System32spoolPRINTERS
- Delete the files inside that folder. Do not delete the folder itself.
- Return to the Services window.
- Right-click Print Spooler and select Start.
- Double-click Print Spooler.
- Set Startup type to Automatic.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Reinstall the HP printer package.
If Windows will not start the spooler, restart the computer and try again. If the spooler stops immediately after starting, an installed printer driver may be crashing it. Remove the affected HP driver and reinstall a compatible package.
The reset worked if the spooler remains running, the printer appears online, and a test page leaves the queue successfully.

Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Antivirus software may quarantine a printer component after a detection or an incomplete update. Do not restore the file just because its name matches the missing DLL.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving
hpzipt12.dllor the HP installer. - Expand a detection to inspect its original path and details.
A copy located beneath an HP printer-driver directory may be part of the legitimate package, but the path alone does not prove that it is safe. A copy found in a temporary folder, a user profile, or an unrelated game directory deserves additional scrutiny.
If the detection came from the official HP installer:
- Confirm that the installer was downloaded from HP.
- Rescan the installer and the system.
- Re-download the package if the detection is unclear.
- Do not create a permanent exclusion merely to suppress the warning.
Microsoft warns that restoring quarantined files can expose the system if the detection is genuine. If security software continues to remove the file, resolve that detection with the security vendor or use a freshly downloaded official HP package.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–40 minutes
Use these commands when other Windows components are also failing, Windows updates are damaged, or system corruption is suspected. They are not normally the primary way to restore hpzipt12.dll, because this is an HP vendor file rather than an inbox Windows component.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait for the scan to finish.
- Restart Windows if repairs were made.
- If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, open an elevated Command Prompt again.
- Run these commands separately:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Then run:
sfc /scannow
DISM repairs the Windows component image. SFC checks protected Windows system files against that repaired image. Neither command will normally recreate a missing HP driver component. Reinstall the HP package after the commands complete.
Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the guesswork when you are repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed; its free scan identifies reported problems, while repairs through the full version are optional. It does not replace reinstalling the HP package when that package is the actual source of hpzipt12.dll.
What success looks like
SFC may report that it found no integrity violations or repaired corrupted files. DISM should complete without an error. After restarting, reinstall the HP driver and test printing again.
If DISM fails, note the exact error and check that Windows Update is working. Do not treat a successful SFC scan as proof that the HP driver is installed.

System Restore may remove a recent driver or application while leaving personal documents intact, but review the affected-program list before confirming. After the rollback, install the correct HP package rather than relying on the restored copy indefinitely.
Fix 7: Remove obsolete HP software if you no longer use the printer
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
If the error appears during every boot but the printer is gone, restoring hpzipt12.dll may only preserve an unwanted dependency.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for HP.
- Uninstall the obsolete HP printer software.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Remove the old HP printer queue.
- If available, open Print Management and remove the unused HP driver.
Also inspect startup items:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable an HP entry only if it clearly belongs to the unused printer software.
- Restart Windows.
If the error continues, inspect Task Scheduler for an old HP task and check whether a stale printer queue remains. Do not remove tasks or services whose purpose you cannot identify.

Why Windows says the DLL is missing when it exists
“Module not found” does not always mean that hpzipt12.dll itself is absent. The HP printer component may depend on another file that is missing, blocked, or incompatible. Other possibilities include:
- An incomplete HP installation.
- A damaged print-driver package.
- A 32-bit and 64-bit architecture mismatch.
- A failed printer-driver update.
- A deleted spooler file.
- Antivirus quarantine.
- Manual deletion during disk cleanup.
- A damaged Windows installation.
- A stale startup reference after HP software was removed.
A 64-bit Windows computer can load 32-bit printer components in some legacy print paths. Do not copy a 32-bit DLL into a 64-bit driver directory or the reverse. Install the architecture selected by the official HP package for the printer and Windows configuration.
Where hpzipt12.dll normally belongs
HP printer-driver files may appear beneath Windows printer-driver directories, including paths similar to:
C:WindowsSystem32spoolDRIVERSx643
C:WindowsSystem32spoolDRIVERSW32X863
The presence of the file beneath a System32 path does not mean that Microsoft ships it as part of Windows. System32 also contains vendor printer-driver files beneath the spooler structure.
The file’s reported metadata identifies it with HP and the printer communication component sometimes called HP SNMP Windows. Public file inventories report different builds, and those records are not a universal HP compatibility list. The correct version depends on the printer model, package, Windows version, and architecture.
Should you run regsvr32 hpzipt12.dll?
No. Do not use:
regsvr32 hpzipt12.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver component is normally installed and referenced through the printer package and its INF configuration, not repaired by manually registering the DLL.

If regsvr32 reports that the entry point is missing, that does not prove the file is corrupt. It usually means the command is not appropriate for that DLL.
Should you install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not as a targeted fix. hpzipt12.dll is identified as an HP printer-driver component, not as a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET assembly. Install one of those runtimes only when a separate error explicitly names the missing runtime or when the HP installer documents it as a requirement.
Frequently asked questions
Is hpzipt12.dll malware?
The filename alone cannot establish that. A legitimate copy is associated with HP printer software, but malware can use a familiar filename. Check the file’s path, metadata, security detections, and source. Replace suspicious copies through the official HP package instead of trusting the filename.
Which HP printer uses hpzipt12.dll?
The filename alone cannot identify one exact model. Public records associate it with older HP LaserJet and multifunction-printer packages. Identify the printer through Printers & scanners, the print queue’s driver properties, or Print Management.
Can I copy the DLL from another computer?
That is unsafe and often ineffective. The other computer may have a different HP build or architecture, and the missing dependency may be elsewhere in the driver package. Install the complete package for your printer instead.
Will SFC restore hpzipt12.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows system files. Since hpzipt12.dll is an HP vendor component, reinstalling the HP printer package is the appropriate repair.
Recommended Free Tools
Why does the error appear when I start a game or another application?
The application may be loading an old HP component indirectly through Windows printing, a startup entry, or a shared print-related process. The game is not necessarily the owner of the file. Trace the HP printer software and stale queues first.
What if I do not own an HP printer anymore?
Remove the unused HP printer queue, driver, and associated software. If the boot-time error stops afterward, the cause was a stale HP reference rather than a Windows DLL that needed replacing.
