HTC Launches VIVE Focus Vision XR Headset for Enterprise and High-End PC VR

The VIVE Focus Vision is a hybrid headset aimed at enterprise fleets and high-end PC VR, not a straightforward Quest 3-style standalone upgrade. Here are its hardware upgrades, connection options, tracking accessories, costs and trade-offs.

HTC launched the VIVE Focus Vision on September 18, 2024, positioning it as a hybrid standalone and PC VR headset for enterprise deployments, location-based entertainment and demanding PC gaming. Its defining features are DisplayPort PC VR, 2,448 × 2,448-pixel-per-eye displays, integrated eye tracking with automatic IPD adjustment, stereo color passthrough and a hot-swappable battery. It can run standalone content, but its older Snapdragon XR2 processor makes it more compelling as a high-fidelity PC VR and managed-business device than as a general-purpose standalone gaming bargain.

What HTC launched

HTC announced the VIVE Focus Vision on September 18, 2024, as an enhanced version of the VIVE Focus 3 platform. US preorders opened that day, with general availability announced for October 18, 2024. The consumer edition launched at a US MSRP of $999, including the headset, two controllers, one battery, charger and charging cables. Regional pricing, bundles and availability can differ.

HTC sells consumer and Business editions. Both use the same core headset concept, but commercial buyers must separately evaluate fleet management, app distribution, warranties, support and deployment requirements. HTC describes the device for training, industrial visualization, healthcare, defense, manufacturing, finance, collaboration, location-based entertainment and high-end gaming.

HTC’s launch announcement details the product positioning and headline features, while the launch blog records the US launch price and package.

What changed from the Focus 3 platform

The Focus Vision’s upgrades are aimed as much at shared-device operation and PC connectivity as at raw rendering speed.

Feature Focus Vision implementation Why it matters
Eye tracking Integrated cameras and sensors Enables supported gaze interaction, avatar eye movement, foveated-rendering features and automatic IPD adjustment.
Auto-IPD Motorized lens-spacing adjustment Speeds setup when many users share a headset in training, demonstrations or arcades.
Passthrough Two 16-megapixel color cameras with stereoscopic output Supports mixed-reality scene viewing; HTC describes the result as depth-correct passthrough, although software and lighting still affect practical quality.
Depth sensing Dedicated depth sensor Helps scene understanding and interaction with physical surfaces and objects.
Hand tracking Infrared-assisted tracking Designed to improve tracking in darker environments.
Battery system Hot-swappable main battery plus an internal reserve HTC says the reserve can keep the headset operating for up to approximately 20 minutes while a charged battery is installed.
Cooling Revised thermal design Intended to reduce heat during longer sessions.
Memory and storage 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM, 128 GB internal storage, MicroSD expansion up to 2 TB More working memory than the earlier Focus 3 configuration; the MicroSD card is sold separately.
PC connection DisplayPort, USB streaming and wireless streaming Adds a direct, low-compression route for PC VR alongside VIVE’s wireless and USB options.

Specifications and feature dependencies are listed on the official product overview.

Display and the meaning of “5K”

“5K” refers to the combined resolution of two LCD panels, not a single 5K screen. Each eye receives 2,448 × 2,448 pixels, for a combined 4,896 × 2,448 image. HTC lists a field of view of up to 120 degrees.

The launch announcement lists 90 Hz. HTC’s store information later lists 120 Hz support in DisplayPort mode as beta, so 120 Hz should not be treated as a universal setting for every mode, application or game. Refresh rate depends on the connection method, software and title support. The published display figures do not by themselves establish lens clarity, glare, edge-to-edge sharpness or the size of the usable visual sweet spot.

How PC VR works

Focus Vision supports three practical PC VR routes. A compatible gaming PC remains essential for demanding SteamVR content.

DisplayPort mode

DisplayPort is the specialist feature that most clearly separates Focus Vision from mainstream standalone headsets. It requires HTC’s VIVE Wired Streaming Kit, consisting of a compatible cable and converter, and a suitable graphics-card output. HTC presents this mode as visually lossless and lower latency under appropriate conditions. Mixed reality is unavailable while DisplayPort mode is active.

Wireless streaming

VIVE Hub and VIVE Streaming can send PC VR over a network. Latency and image quality depend on the PC, wireless congestion, router placement and software settings. HTC recommends Wi-Fi 6 or better on the current product information.

HTC VIVE Wired PC Streaming Kit for VIVE Focus Vision VR Headset - DisplayPort Mode Compatible
  • Built for VIVE Focus Vision: The VIVE Wired PC Streaming Kit provides a visually lossless connection between the VIVE Focus Vision VR headset and your PC for the best streaming quality and performance.
  • VR Streaming Kit: Includes a 5-meter VIVE Streaming Cable and converter, both with DisplayPort compatibility.
  • Enhance Your VR Experience: DisplayPort mode maximizes your PC connection’s bandwidth to allow for sharper graphics and faster response times.(1)
  • Easy PC VR Streaming: VIVE Streaming lets you access the vast PC VR libraries on VIVEPORT and SteamVR. Tap into the power of your gaming laptop or desktop with the VIVE Wired PC Streaming Kit.(1)
  • Get the Best PC VR Performance: Use the VIVE Streaming Cable along with the VIVE Streaming software for the most reliable connection. At 5 meters long, it grants stability and flexibility for unparalleled VR immersion.

USB streaming

USB streaming is also supported through VIVE Streaming. It can be useful when wireless conditions are poor, but DisplayPort is HTC’s preferred route when maximum image quality and response are the priority.

The $999 launch headset therefore is not automatically a complete high-end PC VR system. Budget for a VR-ready PC, the wired kit if you want DisplayPort, SteamVR or VIVE software, and appropriate network equipment for wireless use.

Standalone capability versus standalone leadership

Focus Vision runs standalone content through its own operating system and VIVE software ecosystem, so it does not need a PC for every experience. Its processor is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 with 12 GB of RAM.

That mobile platform is older than the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 used in Meta Quest 3. This does not make Focus Vision unusable as a standalone headset, but it changes the buying logic: the headset’s high-resolution display, eye tracking, hot-swappable battery, DisplayPort mode and business tooling matter more than maximum standalone rendering performance. Buyers seeking inexpensive, all-in-one standalone gaming and the broadest consumer software ecosystem may receive better value from a mainstream consumer headset.

Enterprise features and deployment reality

The Business Edition adds operational services rather than simply changing the physical headset. HTC offers VIVE Business+, customizable settings across device groups, mobile-device-management support, app-marketplace choices and commercial support and replacement services.

HTC’s business support documentation says commercial users must activate a VIVE Business Warranty and Services account. The Business Edition is associated with a two-year limited commercial-use warranty, support and services; registration and activation requirements apply. HTC’s business store presents a two-year Business Warranty and Services product at a displayed $300 US price in August 2026, but buyers should verify eligibility and checkout terms for their region.

Where the hardware helps

  • Shared headsets: Auto-IPD reduces adjustment time between users, while replaceable facial interfaces can simplify cleaning procedures.
  • Training and simulation: High per-eye resolution and PC VR support suit detailed industrial, medical, technical and defense content.
  • Arcades and location-based entertainment: Spare batteries and hot-swapping can reduce downtime between sessions.
  • Design and visualization: DisplayPort can preserve detail from a workstation without relying on wireless compression.
  • Collaboration: Passthrough, hand tracking and supported eye or avatar features can assist spatial workflows.

What a business still has to provide

  • Device-management policy, user authentication and data governance.
  • App licensing, content deployment and marketplace decisions.
  • Network design for updates and wireless PC VR.
  • Cleaning, replacement and battery-charging procedures.
  • Spare batteries, accessories and a plan for support and downtime.

“Enterprise-ready” therefore describes a hardware-and-service path, not a turnkey content or IT program.

Tracking: what is built in and what is optional

Included

  • Integrated eye tracking.
  • Automatic motorized IPD adjustment.
  • Inside-out headset tracking.
  • Hand tracking, including infrared assistance for dimmer rooms.
  • Stereo color passthrough and depth sensing.

Additional hardware

  • Facial expressions: The Facial Tracker for VIVE Focus Series is separate. Focus Vision does not include built-in face tracking by default.
  • Full-body tracking: VIVE Ultimate Trackers and a VIVE Wireless Dongle are required. The headset itself does not contain full-body tracking hardware.

Every advanced feature also needs application support. In VRChat, eye and facial effects depend on compatible avatars and VRCFaceTracking support; owning the headset alone does not guarantee expressive avatars.

HTC warns that eye tracking can be affected by eye surgery, eye disease, heavy makeup or high myopia. Supported software and individual fit determine how useful the feature is in practice.

Battery, accessories and total cost

HTC rates active runtime at up to approximately two hours, with actual endurance varying by application, refresh rate, wireless streaming and tracking load. The hot-swap reserve is an operational advantage, but extended or shared use requires spare batteries and charging capacity.

Use case Likely additional requirements
Maximum-quality wired PC VR VIVE Wired Streaming Kit, VR-ready PC and compatible graphics output.
Wireless PC VR VR-ready PC, VIVE software and a modern, well-configured Wi-Fi network.
VRChat facial expression Separate Facial Tracker, compatible avatar and VRCFaceTracking support.
Full-body tracking VIVE Ultimate Trackers plus VIVE Wireless Dongle and application support.
Commercial fleet Business Edition or suitable commercial service, Business Warranty and Services activation, management tooling and spares.

The consumer product information lists a limited one-year US consumer warranty; regional terms may differ. Commercial warranty coverage is a separate Business Edition and service question.

Common problems and sensible checks

PC streaming is unstable

  • Confirm the PC meets HTC’s current VR requirements and that the discrete GPU, not an integrated motherboard output, is driving the connection.
  • Update VIVE Hub, headset firmware and graphics drivers.
  • Test DisplayPort separately from wireless streaming to isolate network causes.
  • For wireless play, use a dedicated modern Wi-Fi network and reduce congestion.
  • Check the cable and converter supplied for DisplayPort compatibility; mixed reality will not function in DisplayPort mode.

Eye tracking is inconsistent

Re-run calibration, check fit and lighting, and consider HTC’s stated limitations involving eye conditions, surgery, makeup and high myopia. If the application does not implement eye tracking, calibration cannot add the missing software support.

VRChat tracking is disappointing

Verify avatar support, VRCFaceTracking configuration and whether the desired facial or body functions require separate HTC hardware. Focus Vision’s built-in sensors do not provide automatic full-face and full-body tracking.

Who should buy the VIVE Focus Vision?

Strong fit

  • PC VR enthusiasts who value a direct DisplayPort connection and high per-eye resolution.
  • VRChat and social-VR users willing to add facial or body-tracking hardware.
  • Training providers, arcades and other operators sharing headsets repeatedly.
  • Enterprise IT teams that need fleet controls, commercial support and replaceable batteries.
  • Workstation users who prioritize image fidelity over a cable-free setup.

Look elsewhere first

  • Standalone-only gamers seeking the newest mobile processor at the lowest entry price.
  • Buyers who want the largest consumer software ecosystem and the simplest all-in-one setup.
  • Anyone unwilling to purchase a wired kit, network equipment or tracking accessories for the intended use.

Verdict

VIVE Focus Vision is best understood as an enterprise and high-end PC VR headset that also supports standalone content. Its distinctive strengths are DisplayPort streaming, high per-eye resolution, integrated eye tracking and auto-IPD, stereo passthrough, battery hot-swapping and HTC’s business-management options. Those strengths can justify its premium price for a workstation user or managed fleet.

It is a less convincing choice for someone who simply wants the strongest standalone gaming performance for the money. The Snapdragon XR2 is not the newest mobile XR platform, advanced tracking depends on software and optional accessories, and the best wired PC VR experience adds hardware to the headset’s launch price.
