But the headline 8,000Hz polling rate needs context: RTINGS reported that its test unit struggled to reach a 2,000Hz effective update rate. The board may suit PC and console players who want a customizable full-size keyboard, but its performance and build observations make it less straightforward as a premium gaming pick.
What the HyperX Alloy Rise is—and who this review covers
This is the full-size, wired HyperX Alloy Rise, not the Alloy Rise 75 or the wireless 75% model. HyperX’s US listing identifies SKU 7G7A3AA#ABA, a US layout and HyperX Red linear switches. RTINGS also distinguishes the full-size board from the smaller 75% variant in its review.
The Alloy Rise is a sensible fit if you want a full-size gaming keyboard whose switches and exterior parts can be changed without turning the project into a case rebuild. It is a less obvious choice if wireless connectivity, consistent high polling performance or especially rigid construction matters more than customization.
What can you customize?
Hot-swappable switches
HyperX lists the switches as hot-swappable, so you can remove and replace switches without desoldering them. That is the most consequential mod-friendly feature: it makes experimenting with a different feel or replacing a faulty switch more approachable. HyperX includes a keycap and switch puller in the box.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The listed stock switches are HyperX Red linear switches, with 2mm actuation and 4.0mm total travel. HyperX rates them for up to 80 million keypresses; that is the manufacturer’s rating, not an independently demonstrated lifespan. The available product information does not establish compatibility for particular third-party switch models, so check switch/socket fit and manufacturer guidance before buying replacements.
Magnetic top plates, badges and knob
The top plate attaches magnetically, and HyperX lists the top plates, badges and rotary knobs as swappable. This lets you change the board’s appearance without treating the keyboard as a fixed, sealed design. These accessories are separate purchases, not included with the keyboard.

HyperX Canada describes its Alloy Rise top plates as magnetic aluminum, tool-free to install, and packaged with a matching rotary knob. Its accessory page showed the top plate out of stock when accessed on October 3, 2026, at a displayed sale price of $19.99 CAD against $59.99 CAD. Availability and price can change, and the page presents both full-size and 75% options; verify the exact keyboard size and your region before ordering: HyperX Canada’s top plate listing.
Lighting, profiles and controls
HyperX specifies per-key RGB, an ambient light sensor, media controls, a rotary knob and 10 onboard profiles. Its listed customization software is NGENUITY. The software and on-board profile support add configuration options, while the magnetic parts address physical appearance rather than switch feel.

Gaming performance: 8,000Hz is not the whole story
HyperX specifies an 8,000Hz polling rate. That is the manufacturer’s advertised polling figure, not proof that the board consistently sends input updates at that rate. In a review published October 1, 2024, RTINGS said the Alloy Rise struggled to send update packets at an effective maximum of 2,000Hz and could not fully benefit from 8,000Hz polling. RTINGS also found impressive overall gaming latency, but less latency consistency than it expected from an 8,000Hz keyboard. Read the polling claim and the independent result together rather than treating them as equivalent measurements.
RTINGS also found the short pre-travel may feel too sensitive for many typists. That is worth considering if you switch between gaming and long-form typing; the board’s linear switches and cushioned mounting do not make its actuation feel universally suitable.

Typing feel and build quality
HyperX describes the Alloy Rise as gasket-mounted and its switches as pre-lubed. RTINGS characterized the typing feel as premium and soft, also noting pre-lubed stabilizers. That cushioned feel is a genuine appeal for someone who wants a less rigid typing experience.
There are build caveats. RTINGS reported noticeable deck flex and an easily frayed cable on its reviewed unit. Those are observations from one review’s test, not evidence that every Alloy Rise has the same issue or a known failure rate. Still, they temper the impression created by the keyboard’s customization features and premium-feeling typing experience.

Layout, connectivity and specifications
The full-size layout retains a number pad, which is useful for games and workflows that use it but occupies more desk space than the 75% version. This model is wired: HyperX lists a detachable braided USB-C-to-USB-A cable, not wireless connectivity. The stated platform compatibility is PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

Is the HyperX Alloy Rise worth buying?
HyperX’s US page showed the full-size keyboard in stock at $99.99, against a displayed former price of $199.99, when accessed October 3, 2026. That is a dated listing observation, not a lasting price guarantee. At the displayed price, the combination of hot-swap switches and magnetic exterior parts is appealing for someone who will actually use those options. The value is harder to judge at a higher price if the main reason to buy is the 8,000Hz figure, given RTINGS’ measured update-rate caveat and its findings on flex and cable durability.
Quick Recap
- Consider it if you want a wired, full-size board with accessible switch replacement, visual customization, onboard profiles and a soft gasket-mounted feel.
- Look elsewhere if you need wireless, want a more compact layout, or prioritize a rigid deck and a cable without the durability concern reported by RTINGS.
- Before ordering parts, verify that a top plate matches your exact Alloy Rise size and check compatibility guidance for any third-party switches.
