In PC Gamer’s October 2, 2026 account, the small encounters quickly grew into a horde—one that still had to contend with traffic, fire and the city’s usual chaos.
How ZombieInfection turns pedestrians into a spreading outbreak
In the PC Gamer feature, the mod’s defining idea is infection by contact. Zombies appear among ordinary pedestrians, and other city-dwellers can become infected after an encounter. What begins as a handful of undead can therefore spread into a larger threat as the player moves through Los Santos. PC Gamer’s October 2, 2026 feature describes one author’s session, not a systematic test or a guarantee of how the mod behaves on every installation.
What the zombies can—and cannot—do
The outbreak is dangerous, but it does not make the undead invulnerable. The feature describes them as relatively slow and susceptible to hazards including cars and fire. Staying in contact with them for too long can kill the player character in the installation described. The result is less a separate survival game than a new pressure layered over GTA 5’s familiar streets and hazards.
How other GTA 5 zombie mods differ
Zombie mods take different approaches: some emphasize a spreading infection, while others build out survival systems or a longer-term survivor loop. Their descriptions and files can change, so check each listing’s current requirements and supported game build before installing.

What to check before installing a zombie mod
- Open the current mod page and check its requirements and the exact GTA V build it supports; a feature description alone does not establish compatibility.
- Read recent comments and update notes for reports relevant to your game version. Treat comments as user experiences, not confirmed behavior for every setup.
- For InfectionV, use only files that are not quarantined by the site’s automated safety checks.
Don’t confuse a PC mod with GTA Online’s Halloween rewards
Rockstar’s official Halloween zombie-mask reward was a timed GTA Online challenge, not a way to add zombies to single-player GTA 5. In its support article last updated October 6, 2025, Rockstar said players could earn the Brown Vintage Zombie Mask by surviving two waves in a Survival without dying during the October 2–8, 2025 challenge window.
