The iBUYPOWER Element 9260 is still a capable 1080p gaming PC for esports and older games, but in 2026 it makes sense only as a healthy, verified used system at a distinctly low price. Its Core i7-9700F and GTX 1660 Ti are dated, its 240GB SSD is cramped, and its commonly listed Windows 10 installation is past standard support. Avoid paying current-new-PC money for it.
What is the iBUYPOWER Element 9260?
It is a late-2010s gaming prebuilt aimed primarily at 1080p play. The commonly documented configuration pairs an eight-core Intel Core i7-9700F with a 6GB GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 16GB of DDR4, a 240GB SSD and a 1TB hard drive. Retail listings and review systems describe that broad combination, but components such as the motherboard, storage, memory and power supply can vary between units. Verify the actual machine before buying.

How does it perform in games?
1080p is the right target
The GTX 1660 Ti remains best suited to 1080p. Esports games and older competitive titles are the machine’s strongest case, while many older or moderately demanding AAA games should be playable at medium-to-high settings. Newer, demanding releases may require reduced settings; 6GB of video memory can also constrain texture quality.

WePC’s historical tests reported more than 70 FPS in 1080p Metro Exodus across most tested settings, over 150 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege, and over 200 FPS in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive under suitable settings. Those figures describe its review hardware, game versions and test conditions—not guaranteed performance in current game releases. The review also tested Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Total War: Warhammer II. See WePC’s test coverage for its historical results.
1440p requires compromises
Many games can be playable at 1440p, particularly older or well-optimized ones, but this is not a dependable high-refresh 1440p machine. Expect to lower settings in demanding games rather than assume high or ultra presets will hold stable frame rates.
4K and ray tracing are poor fits
Modern AAA gaming at 4K is outside this PC’s performance class. Selected older or less demanding games might work with substantial settings reductions, but 4K should not guide a purchase. The GTX 1660 Ti lacks RTX hardware for accelerated ray tracing, and its age also means it is not a future-proof choice for modern graphics features.
A retailer described the system as “VR ready,” but that label is not a guarantee of smooth performance in current VR games. Headset resolution, frame-rate demands and the particular game matter; verify compatibility and performance for the intended setup rather than relying on the label. Walmart listing.

Core i7-9700F
The i7-9700F’s eight physical cores are still adequate for gaming and ordinary desktop use. Its eight threads, however, make it less appealing for heavy multitasking, CPU rendering, demanding editing or gaming while running CPU-intensive streaming software than newer processors with more threads. The F suffix means it has no integrated graphics, so display output depends on the discrete graphics card. Its LGA1151/B365 platform is old, which limits attractive processor upgrades.
GTX 1660 Ti and memory
The 1660 Ti’s 6GB VRAM is a reasonable fit for conventional 1080p gaming, but can limit high-resolution textures in newer games. Sixteen gigabytes of system RAM remains usable, though it can feel tight when a game runs alongside browsers, chat, recording or editing software. For esports, a high-refresh monitor may be useful, but actual frame rates vary with game, settings and CPU limits.
Storage, cooling and power
The small 240GB SSD is the most obvious day-to-day compromise: Windows and a few large games can use much of its capacity. The 1TB hard drive adds space but is slower for game loading. WePC noted cable-management shortcomings and used a 500W Channel Well Technology 80 Plus Bronze PSU in its test system; treat both as observations about that reviewed unit, not every machine. The PSU’s age, model and connectors matter more than its wattage label alone when considering a graphics-card upgrade.

Connectivity and case
The Walmart listing specifies four USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1-channel audio, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort, plus 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Actual ports depend on the motherboard and installed graphics card. The listing also says a gaming keyboard and RGB mouse were included; used sellers may not include them. Walmart listing.

Is it suitable for streaming or creative work?
For browsing, office work, light photo editing and occasional video work, the system is serviceable. It is a weaker choice for sustained CPU rendering or professional editing, and gaming alongside CPU-intensive streaming can expose the 9700F’s eight-thread limit. GPU encoding may help in some software, but results depend on the application and its current support. WePC’s testing across Cinebench, HandBrake, Blender, POV-Ray, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, V-Ray and Corona characterized it as capable of lighter creative work but weaker than comparable Ryzen systems in heavily threaded workloads and game streaming. WePC review.
Which upgrades make sense?
1. Add SSD capacity first
A larger SATA SSD is usually the most useful, least disruptive upgrade for the documented storage layout. Before buying, check the existing drive type, available 2.5-inch mounting space, and whether a SATA data cable and power connector are free. Decide whether to clone Windows or install it fresh; do not assume every unit has the same drive arrangement.
2. Consider 32GB of RAM for heavier use
More memory can help when gaming alongside browsers, Discord, recording or editing, and with some modded games. Check the motherboard’s supported memory, the number of occupied DIMM slots, and the installed modules before choosing a kit. The B365 platform may not run memory at a kit’s advertised maximum speed.
3. Upgrade the graphics card only after checking the whole system
A faster GPU can improve gaming, but first check the exact PSU model and connectors, case clearance, cooling and airflow, motherboard BIOS, and the likely CPU limit—particularly at 1080p and high refresh rates. A high-end card can be disproportionate to the 9700F platform. Compare the total upgrade cost with the price of replacing the desktop.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute4. Avoid spending heavily on the old CPU platform
A compatible CPU swap may offer limited value. A substantial processor upgrade can require a new motherboard and memory, turning a targeted upgrade into a near-total rebuild.
What should buyers know about Windows?
The commonly listed installation is Windows 10 Home. Microsoft ended standard Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, and lists Extended Security Updates through October 13, 2026, subject to eligibility and enrollment requirements. Check Microsoft’s Windows end-of-support information.

Before paying, confirm whether the specific motherboard and firmware meet Windows 11 requirements, whether TPM and Secure Boot options are available and enabled, whether Windows is activated, and whether the seller’s license is legitimate. Do not assume every Element 9260 qualifies for an official Windows 11 upgrade. A clean installation may be preferable on a used PC, but make a plan for the license and files first.

Verify the parts, not just the model name
Ask for clear screenshots from Windows System Information, Task Manager’s Performance tab, GPU-Z or Device Manager, BIOS/UEFI hardware pages, and CrystalDiskInfo or an equivalent drive-health utility. Confirm:
- Core i7-9700F and GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, if those are what the seller advertises.
- Installed RAM capacity and module layout.
- SSD and hard-drive models and health.
- Motherboard model and PSU brand, model, wattage and power connectors.
- Windows edition and activation status.
Test operation and condition
If possible, request or perform a 10–15 minute GPU stress test, a CPU load test, several minutes of actual gameplay, and SSD and HDD health checks. Test USB, audio, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, sleep, restart, shutdown and each display output you need. Look for GPU artifacts, sudden shutdowns, excessive fan noise, thermal throttling, drive warnings and blue screens. Inspect for missing Wi-Fi antennas, cracked tempered glass, bent panels, heavy dust and smoke residue.
Check what is included
Verify the power cable, Wi-Fi antennas, keyboard, mouse and original packaging separately; the retailer’s original bundle does not establish what a secondhand seller still has.
Is the Element 9260 worth buying in 2026?
Only if the asking price reflects its age, the condition is sound and the exact parts check out. Price signals in old listings are not a reliable current valuation: a Walmart page was recorded at $1,449.99 and out of stock, while PCVarGe indexed an Amazon price of $1,788.88. Neither figure establishes a fair price today. Walmart listing; PCVarGe listing.
- Potentially buy: at a clearly low used price, for mainly 1080p gaming, with healthy storage and a verified PSU—and preferably return protection or a warranty.
- Be cautious: at a moderate used price if it needs an SSD, RAM or other work; compare the all-in cost with newer desktops.
- Avoid: near current-new-PC pricing, if the GPU or PSU cannot be confirmed, if storage shows warnings, or if the seller promises 4K, ultra settings or strong current VR performance.
For a newer alternative, compare actual GPU generation and VRAM, CPU core and thread count, SSD capacity, PSU headroom, Windows 11 status, warranty and return terms—not just the case lighting or “gaming PC” label. Current vendor catalogs include iBUYPOWER gaming PCs, Lenovo Legion desktops, HP desktops and ASUS ROG desktops. These are buying routes, not direct performance comparisons; check live configurations and prices before deciding.
