iBUYPOWER opened orders for custom gaming PCs with GeForce RTX 5080 graphics cards on January 30, 2025, with launch configurations starting at $2,949. That was a real announcement, but it is not new news: the company said the custom systems could be purchased while supplies lasted, while details for its future RDY prebuilt systems were still to come. The $2,949 figure is a launch-period price, not a current quote.
What iBUYPOWER announced—and when
On January 30, 2025, iBUYPOWER announced custom gaming PCs equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series cards, including the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090. The company said these systems could be purchased while supplies lasted, noted that availability was limited, and directed buyers to its RTX 50-series gaming-PC page. The distinction that matters is between a configurable custom system and an RDY prebuilt. iBUYPOWER had not yet provided details for its future RTX 50-series RDY systems in that announcement. The first order opportunity was for custom PCs, not necessarily one standardized, mass-produced RTX 5080 desktop.

Android Headlines described the RTX 5080 desktops as being “up for pre-order.” iBUYPOWER’s own wording was that custom PCs with RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 graphics could “now be purchased” while supplies lasted. Its announcement did not spell out a universal deposit, guaranteed shipping date, or specific pre-order policy. So “pre-order” is accurate as a description of the contemporary news coverage, but the official statement supports the narrower claim that the custom systems were available to order at launch. Launch price and example configurations
iBUYPOWER put the starting price for RTX 5080 custom configurations at $2,949. Android Headlines reported a Hyte Y60-based RTX 5080 example at $2,949.99. These are January 2025 launch figures; they do not establish today’s price or availability. The final total depended on the components and options selected.
iBUYPOWER highlighted two representative RTX 5080 builds. They illustrate the range of launch configurations, not a single specification shared by every system:

The announcement gave example component combinations; it did not establish that every option, including either example, was in stock at all times. What buyers could customize
The launch configurator was described as allowing changes to the processor, motherboard, memory capacity, storage, case, fans and RGB lighting, cooling, and other components. The resulting price therefore depended on the build, rather than only on the RTX 5080.
One option noted by Android Headlines was a Fractal North XL case for an additional $43 at the time of its January 2025 report. That was a configuration-specific launch-period option, not a guarantee that the case or surcharge remains available. Contemporary configuration details
What about RTX 5090 systems?
iBUYPOWER’s announcement broadly said custom PCs with both RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 cards could be purchased while supplies lasted. Android Headlines, describing the configuration experience at the time, reported that RTX 5090 configurations were not yet selectable in the same way and that more information would follow. Why the announcement mattered to PC gamers
NVIDIA introduced the GeForce RTX 50 series at CES on January 6, 2025. NVIDIA’s launch materials promoted Blackwell architecture, GDDR7 memory, DLSS 4, and expanded AI capabilities. Those are platform and product claims, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate in any game: performance depends on the title, resolution, settings, CPU, and whether features such as DLSS are used. For buyers, the immediate question was also practical: could they obtain a complete PC with the new graphics card during a constrained launch? A configured desktop offered assembled components and one system purchase, rather than requiring the buyer to source a GPU and build around it. The trade-off was that an RTX 5080 label alone did not tell a buyer whether the rest of the system suited their workload or justified the price.
What later retail configurations show
Later iBUYPOWER product records confirm that RTX 5080 systems appeared in distinct configurations. These are later retail examples, not proof of the exact systems available in the January 2025 launch configurator:

The differences—especially in processor, memory capacity and speed, cooler, and case details—are why buyers should compare the complete SKU rather than assume every desktop with “Y40 RTX 5080” in its name has the same parts.

For gaming-focused builds, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D example may appeal to buyers prioritizing a gaming-oriented CPU. A Ryzen 9 or Intel Core i9 configuration may better fit workloads that make heavier use of processor cores. Neither CPU name, by itself, establishes value; compare the whole system and the games or applications you actually use.

- Memory: Check the capacity and rated speed in the exact listing. The launch examples specified 32GB DDR5-6400, while later Y40 retail records included 32GB or 64GB DDR5-5200.
- Storage: Confirm capacity and whether the drive is an NVMe SSD; look for the drive model if the seller lists it.
- Power supply: Verify wattage, efficiency rating, manufacturer and model, and the connectors provided. The launch examples specified wattage, but not a particular model.
- Cooling and clearance: Check the cooler size and case layout, plus the graphics card’s dimensions and clearance around any radiator. The generic GPU name does not identify the installed card’s physical dimensions.
- Operating system: Confirm the edition on the particular SKU. The cited later Y40 records list Windows 11 Pro; other listings may differ.
- Delivery, returns, and warranty: Distinguish an in-stock system from one built to order or listed for pre-order. Check the estimated ship date, seller, return terms, and warranty for the purchase channel before paying.
At this price level, compare the complete parts list and support terms—not just the graphics card. A system can be convenient and available when individual GPUs are difficult to source, but its value depends on the CPU, memory, storage, power supply, cooling, warranty, and total cost together.

Buying update: prices observed August 18, 2026
iBUYPOWER RTX 5080 desktops are now retail products rather than newly announced pre-orders. The following is a dated snapshot, not a live quote. A Best Buy listing observed August 18, 2026 showed a Y40 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, RTX 5080 16GB, 32GB DDR5, and 1TB SSD at $2,799.99. Other iBUYPOWER RTX 5080 listings on the retailer page were roughly $2,779.99–$3,099.99 at that observation date, across Y40, Slate, Element, and Y40 Pro models. That listed Y40 is not directly interchangeable with the January 2025 examples: it has a different CPU and 1TB rather than 2TB of listed storage. Before comparing it with another desktop, check the exact model’s memory speed, SSD capacity, PSU, cooling, seller, ship estimate, and return and warranty terms. iBUYPOWER’s prebuilt gaming PC catalog is a starting point for current direct configurations; its historical launch page should not be treated as a current price or stock listing.
