I’d choose the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM over a Steam Deck if I wanted a Windows handheld for demanding PC games and games spread across multiple stores—and if its live price made sense. That is a conditional preference, not a claim that the Claw is discounted this Prime Day: no Claw-specific Prime Day offer has been verified. If your library is mostly Steam and you value a simpler, Steam-focused interface, the Steam Deck may be the better buy.
Which MSI Claw and Steam Deck are we comparing?
The recommendation here is for MSI’s Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM, not the earlier Claw 8 AI+ A2VM. MSI’s US store lists the EX as model CG3EM-024US, but that listing does not establish current price or stock. MSI also notes that availability and specifications can vary by market, so check the exact configuration offered where you shop. MSI’s US store listing.
“Steam Deck” also covers different configurations, including LCD and OLED models. Valve’s cited technical page gives a 40 Wh battery and an estimated two to eight hours of gameplay, but does not identify that battery figure as an OLED-specific specification. Why I’d consider the Claw instead
Windows can fit a mixed game library
The Claw 8 AI+ platform runs Windows 11, while Steam Deck runs SteamOS. That matters if your PC gaming is spread across stores or includes games that work better in a Windows environment. Recent reviews favor the EX’s performance, with a price caveat
TechRadar describes the Claw 8 EX AI+ as a high-performance handheld but identifies its expense as a major drawback; its battery benchmark is that reviewer’s result, not a runtime guarantee for every player. PC Gamer likewise calls the model a performance leader and praises Endurance Mode, while criticizing its near-$2,000 launch cost and rejecting it as an affordable second device. Where the Steam Deck can be the smarter buy
If your games are in Steam and run well on SteamOS, the Deck’s more Steam-focused interface may be more convenient than using Windows on a handheld. The Claw’s broader Windows access is useful only if it solves a real library or compatibility problem for you; it is not automatically an advantage worth paying more for. Windows Central’s comparison discusses these platform trade-offs, but its historical prices and model-specific results should not be treated as current.

These figures describe different models and contexts. Battery capacity is not runtime, and MSI’s A2VM Endurance Mode claim should not be transferred to the EX. Expect runtime to depend on the game and the settings you use.

- Confirm the exact model. Check that the listing is for the Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM and note the configuration and region; don’t assume an A2VM specification or review result applies.
- Check the live offer. Compare the current price and stock for the exact configuration at Amazon or an authorized retailer in your market. No Claw-specific Prime Day deal or current price has been verified here, and event dates and offers can differ across markets.
- Match the device to your library. Identify the games and stores you use most, then verify compatibility and handheld performance for those specific titles.
- Decide whether the premium buys something you need. Prefer the Claw if Windows access and the EX’s performance profile justify the actual price for you. Prefer the Deck if its SteamOS experience fits your games and the Claw’s premium does not solve a meaningful problem.
