IKEA’s gaming push is about furniture and home-gaming accessories—not consoles or gaming PCs. Its first major collection, developed with ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG), launched in 2021 with PC gamers in mind. In 2026, IKEA announced YXSTABY, a separate nine-piece collection developed with Xbox for gaming in everyday home spaces. The announcements point to gaming-focused furnishings and partnerships; they do not establish a move into gaming hardware.
What IKEA’s entry into gaming actually means
IKEA entered the gaming market by adapting its home-furnishing expertise to gaming setups. The company’s 2020 announcement described a collaboration with ASUS Republic of Gamers to develop affordable gaming furniture and accessories. IKEA planned an initial China launch from February 2021, followed by other IKEA markets from October 2021. That history is distinct from making gaming electronics. The announced products were furnishings and setup accessories, not computers, consoles, graphics cards, or other core gaming hardware.
The ROG collaboration: a PC-focused furniture range
IKEA’s 2021 launch announcement described more than 30 products across six product families: UPPSPEL, LÅNESPELARE, MATCHSPEL, GRUPPSPEL, UTESPELARE, and HUVUDSPELARE. The range included desks, chairs, storage, and smaller setup accessories such as a mug holder, mouse bungee, neck pillow, and ring light. The collaboration combined two design perspectives: ROG’s gaming-oriented design language and IKEA’s home-furnishing experience. In a design interview, IKEA designer Jon Karlsson discussed supporting different ways of moving and sitting. ROG designer Johnny Chan described needs such as staying cool and comfortable and organizing gaming gear. The product families and their current availability are not necessarily the same today as at launch. IKEA operates through retailers in specific territories, and the company notes that published facts and commitments reflect conditions at the time of publication. YXSTABY: IKEA’s 2026 Xbox collaboration
On 26 August 2026, IKEA announced YXSTABY, a nine-piece collection developed with Xbox for gaming in everyday home spaces. IKEA says each piece was developed with one designer from each team, and frames the collection as something that fits into the home when play is over. The global announcement gave 1 October 2026 as the availability date, while cautioning that availability may vary by market. The announcements support a shift in emphasis—from a PC-focused setup range to a collection framed around gaming in shared, everyday living spaces. They do not provide a product-by-product performance comparison, so they cannot show that one collection is more comfortable, durable, or effective than the other.

The clearest expectation is that IKEA may continue exploring gaming-oriented furnishings or partnerships. Its ROG range and Xbox collaboration show two ways it has approached the category: dedicated gaming setups and products designed to sit naturally in everyday home spaces. That is a reasonable reading of the announced collections, not a published future roadmap.

Neither announcement establishes plans for IKEA-branded consoles, gaming PCs, or a broader electronics business. IKEA’s figures about the size of the gaming audience should also be kept in context: in 2020, IKEA cited around 2.5 billion gamers worldwide and attributed that estimate to the Newzoo Global Games Market Report 2020. In its 2026 announcement, IKEA described more than 3 billion people as considering gaming an essential part of everyday life. These differently worded figures come from separate announcements; the 2026 statement does not name an underlying report in the source cited here, so they should not be treated as a consistent statistical time series.
