If Windows says imgpro.dll is missing, the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the old ArcSoft or bundled imaging program that requested it.
Do not begin by copying a downloaded DLL into System32. That can introduce an untrusted file, create version conflicts, and still leave the application unable to start.

The filename alone cannot identify the exact program installed on your computer. Older ArcSoft components were bundled with hardware software and legacy imaging suites, so the requesting application might not be named simply “ImgPro.”
Public file metadata associates the component with old ArcSoft software, but there is no verified current official standalone download page for imgpro.dll. The original application installer, device CD, OEM recovery media, or a verifiable installer from the hardware manufacturer is safer than a replacement DLL from a download site.

Error messages you may see
The wording depends on the program, Windows version, and the way the application loads the file. Common forms include:
- “This application failed to start because imgpro.dll was not found.”
- “The file imgpro.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: imgpro.dll. Please install the application again.”
- “Error loading imgpro.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “imgpro.dll not found.”
- “imgpro.dll is missing.”
- “Cannot find imgpro.dll.”
- “Cannot register imgpro.dll.”
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that imgpro.dll itself is absent. It can also mean that a dependency required by the DLL is missing or incompatible.
Fix imgpro.dll errors in order
1. Identify the application that is requesting the file
First determine which program fails. This prevents you from repairing the wrong application.
Check the error window
Look at the title bar and the text immediately above or below the imgpro.dll message. Note:

- The executable name, if shown
- The complete error text
- Any folder path
- Whether the error appears immediately after opening a shortcut, connecting a device, or starting Windows
If the error appears after launching camera, scanner, printer, Palm, or photo software, that program is the first suspect.
Check the shortcut target
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target and Start in fields.
- Record the folder containing the executable.
- Select Cancel without changing anything.
Do not delete or replace files in that folder yet. The path helps identify the parent application and its installer.
Check installed programs
On Windows 11:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for
ArcSoft,ImgPro,PhotoBase, or the camera, scanner, printer, or Palm software associated with the error.
On Windows 10:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Search the installed-program list for the same names.
Also check the traditional program list:
- Press
WindowsplusR. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Look for an ArcSoft application or the bundled device software.
If you find the program, continue with repair or reinstall. If you do not, inspect the shortcut target and startup entries before assuming the DLL is missing from Windows.
Use Event Viewer when the program is unclear
- Right-click Start.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Select Filter Current Log in the right-hand pane.
- Filter for Error and Warning events around the time the failure occurred.
- Open relevant entries and record the application name, faulting executable, and faulting module.
Event Viewer may not name the original missing file, but it can reveal which old program is still attempting to start.
2. Repair the original application
Repair is preferable to replacing one DLL because the installer can restore the complete set of application files, configuration, registry entries, and dependencies.
On Windows 11:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the ArcSoft or bundled imaging program.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Select Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the application from its normal shortcut.
If Repair is unavailable or does not solve the problem, select Reset only if you understand that the application may lose its stored settings. Traditional desktop programs may instead provide Repair or Change in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

To use the traditional repair path:
- Press
WindowsplusR. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the ArcSoft or device-related program.
- Select Change, Repair, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If repair fails, uninstall the program, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the original CD, device media, OEM recovery media, or a trustworthy installer supplied for that exact hardware and software release. Do not mix files from two different ArcSoft products.
What success looks like
The application should open without the imgpro.dll message. If the error changes to a different missing file, that usually means the original problem was only the first missing component. Continue with a complete application reinstall rather than downloading each named DLL separately.

Security software may have removed or quarantined an old DLL, particularly if the file was restored from old media or the installer was modified.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start.
- Type
Windows Security. - Open the application.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the detection related to the ArcSoft application.
- Record the original file path and detection name.
Restore or allow the file only when all of these conditions are met:
- The file came from the original application installation.
- The original installer or media is trusted.
- The original path matches the application’s installation directory.
- The detection has been reviewed and is reasonably believed to be a false positive.
Reinstalling the complete application is safer than restoring an isolated file. If the detection concerns an unknown installer or a DLL obtained from an untrusted source, do not restore it and do not create an antivirus exclusion.
After restoring a quarantined file, Windows Security may detect it again unless it is separately allowed. That behavior does not prove the file is safe. If you cannot establish its provenance, obtain clean original installation media instead.
4. Restore the complete application if it was moved or partially removed
The error can occur after:
- Copying the program folder from another computer
- Moving the application to another drive
- Deleting old files during disk cleanup
- Removing part of a camera or scanner suite
- Uninstalling a related ArcSoft product
- Restoring only the executable from backup
Legacy programs often expect several files beside their main executable. Copying only imgpro.dll does not recreate those files or the application’s configuration.
Use the original installer to restore the program:
- Uninstall the damaged application from Settings > Apps or
appwiz.cpl. - Restart Windows.
- Reconnect the original installation media or locate the verified installer.
- Install the complete program to its normal location.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the program from the newly created shortcut.
If the program came with a camera, scanner, printer, or Palm device, the correct installer may be on that device’s original disc or in the manufacturer’s support archive. The exact parent product cannot be determined from imgpro.dll alone.
5. Handle old 32-bit software correctly on 64-bit Windows
Legacy imaging programs may be 32-bit even when Windows is 64-bit. Windows can often run such programs through its compatibility layer, but the application still needs the correct files and compatible dependencies.
Do not automatically copy imgpro.dll into either of these folders:

C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64
On 64-bit Windows, System32 is primarily the location for 64-bit Windows system binaries, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit Windows system binaries. Those folder names do not mean that third-party application DLLs belong there.
The normal location for an application DLL is the application’s own installation directory, unless the original installer specifies another location. Let the installer place the file.
If the installer will not run:
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Test an older Windows mode appropriate to the software’s age.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Run the installer again.
You can apply the same process to the installed program executable. Compatibility mode may help an intact old program run, but it cannot recreate a deleted DLL or repair a missing dependency.
6. Check Windows Features only when the application requires them
Do not enable random Windows features because a third-party DLL is missing. There is no verified evidence that imgpro.dll specifically requires a particular .NET, DirectX, or Visual C++ package.
If the original installer or the application documentation explicitly names a Windows feature:
- Press
WindowsplusR. - Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review the requested feature.
- Enable only the feature required by the original software.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
If the installer supplies its own runtime, use that installer rather than downloading unrelated runtime packages. Installing several guessed runtimes can add complexity without restoring the missing ArcSoft component.
7. Reinstall or update a related device driver only when the device is involved
A driver is not the normal home of imgpro.dll, but an old camera, scanner, printer, or capture application may fail after a device change. If Device Manager shows a device error, address that separately.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Cameras, Imaging devices, Printers, Sound, video and game controllers, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Update Driver and choose Search automatically for drivers, or install the exact driver supplied by the device manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
A driver update will not normally restore a missing application DLL. If the device works but the ArcSoft program still reports imgpro.dll, reinstall the complete application.

8. Use DISM and SFC only for broader Windows corruption
Windows repair commands do not normally restore third-party ArcSoft files. Use them when several Windows components are failing, Windows features are damaged, or the problem began with broader system corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends DISM before SFC because DISM can repair the component store used by SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired Windows files, test the affected Windows behavior again. It is normal for SFC to leave imgpro.dll unchanged because the file belongs to an application, not Windows.

Repeating these commands will not substitute for reinstalling the ArcSoft program. 9. Use System Restore after a recent system change
System Restore may help if the error began immediately after an application removal, failed update, or other system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press
WindowsplusR. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the result.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is not a replacement for obtaining the original installer. It may restore application files and settings if they were included in the restore point, but it cannot guarantee recovery of unsupported legacy software.
If malware is suspected, run a full Windows Security scan. Do not restore a DLL merely because an application requests it if the file was removed during a malware incident.
What not to do
Do not download a random replacement DLL
Unverified DLL download sites sites can provide:
- Malware or modified files
- The wrong release
- The wrong architecture
- A file with missing dependencies
- A DLL that does not match the application’s expected version
Even a genuine file may not fix the root cause if the application is missing several files or its installation data is damaged.
Use the original ArcSoft CD, the device manufacturer’s original software media, OEM recovery media, or a verified installer for the exact application. There is no verified current standalone official download for imgpro.dll.
Do not copy it into both system folders
Copying a third-party DLL into System32 and SysWOW64 can affect unrelated programs, create loader conflicts, and make future diagnosis harder. The correct location is normally the application’s own folder, and the original installer should decide where the file belongs.
Do not run regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that imgpro.dll is a self-registering ActiveX or COM component.
If you run:
regsvr32 imgpro.dll
and receive an error stating that the entry point is missing, that does not prove the DLL is corrupt. It usually means registration does not apply. Registration is unrelated to making an ordinary application library available to its executable.

Use regsvr32 only when the application’s own documentation specifically instructs you to register that component, and use the correct full path.
Do not install random Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET packages
A missing imgpro.dll does not establish that a Microsoft runtime is missing. Install a runtime only when the original application installer, its complete error message, or trusted dependency analysis identifies that requirement.

Do not mix ArcSoft files from different programs
Several old ArcSoft and OEM applications may mention similar components. Combining DLLs from different releases can create new failures. Reinstall the complete parent program instead.
If the DLL exists but the error remains
Check these possibilities:
- The file is in the wrong directory.
- The application is loading another copy.
- A dependent DLL is missing.
- The file is incompatible with the executable.
- The application’s registry or configuration data is damaged.
- Antivirus is blocking the file.
- The shortcut points to an old or removed installation.
- The program itself is incompatible with the current Windows release.
The best next step is still a complete repair or reinstall. A dependency-analysis tool can be useful on the original, trusted application files, but do not replace every dependency named by an analysis report with a random download.

Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not missing files belonging to ArcSoft applications.
Why does the error say a module could not be found when the file is present?
A dependency of imgpro.dll may be missing, the wrong architecture may be loaded, or the application may be searching another directory.
