Inside Wargaming’s 2010 Authorship Dispute—and the Records That Could Settle It

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The dispute remains unresolved: Sergiy Shashko says he sent Wargaming aviation and naval game concepts in 2010, but the original support tickets have not been recovered in the account described by Power Up Gaming. The later correspondence reported by the outlet shows that he raised the claim by 2012; it does not establish what the missing tickets said or when Wargaming conceived its games.

This account is based on Power Up Gaming’s report, published October 2, 2026. The outlet says it reviewed correspondence and other material, but its report does not reproduce the original 2010 support tickets. The documents behind its account therefore cannot be independently authenticated from the report alone.

What does Shashko say he sent, and what evidence is reported?

The 2010 submission claim

Shashko says that in 2010 he used Wargaming’s support system to send concepts for aviation and naval games called World of Air and World of Battleships. Power Up Gaming reports that the original tickets have not been recovered. Shashko told the outlet, “I submitted the proposals for these projects in 2010.” He also said, “I have preserved a 17-year archive of emails and registration records.” Those statements describe his claim and the records he says he retained; they do not supply the missing ticket contents.

What the later correspondence can show

Power Up Gaming says that in January 2012 Shashko told Wargaming he had sent an idea for an aviation game around a year and a half earlier. In May 2012, it says, he named World of Air, dated it to about two years earlier, and asked about testing World of Warplanes. The outlet also describes a separate exchange in which Wargaming acknowledged receiving a suggestion and said it had been forwarded to the appropriate department, without identifying the suggestion.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

If accurately represented, the 2012 messages establish that Shashko was making an aviation-concept claim by then. The acknowledgment establishes receipt of an unspecified suggestion, not that it was one of the named concepts. Neither strand establishes the exact wording, attachments, or receipt date of a 2010 ticket.

What does the public game chronology establish?

Power Up Gaming places Wargaming’s public announcement of World of Warplanes on June 7, 2011, and of World of Battleships on August 16, 2011. It reports that World of Battleships remained a project name into 2012, including in a July 30, 2012 job advertisement, before the project was renamed World of Warships. The outlet gives September 17, 2015 as the latter game’s release date.

These are reported public announcement, project-name, and release milestones. They do not reveal when either project was first conceived internally. An announcement after a claimed submission may be relevant chronology, but it cannot by itself show whether a team had already developed the idea, received a proposal, or used it.

What records could help resolve the competing accounts?

The different records would answer different questions. No single item described in the report settles authorship or causation:

Record What it could help establish What it would not establish by itself
Original 2010 support tickets and attachments The exact concepts and wording submitted, dates, account identity, and whether Wargaming received them, if the records and metadata can be authenticated. Whether Wargaming’s teams had conceived similar projects earlier, or whether a submitted idea influenced development.
2012 and later correspondence When Shashko raised the claim and what he told Wargaming at that time; a reply may show receipt of a suggestion if it identifies it. That the same named concepts appeared in 2010, unless the correspondence independently preserves or authenticates the original material.
Wargaming’s internal project records Potentially, dated planning, design, and project-creation records that bear on when each game was conceived and how it developed. Any conclusion unless the relevant records exist, are sufficiently complete, and can be tied to the project and timeline in question.
The agreements in force when the submission was made The contractual terms applicable to user submissions at the relevant time. What the 2010 terms said if the governing agreement cannot be located.

Power Up Gaming reports that Shashko could see 19 of 144 support enquiries associated with his account through the active interface. It says Wargaming told him historical technical records might remain in legacy backup systems, described as cold storage and not readily searchable or recoverable in intelligible form without disproportionate effort. These figures and descriptions are the outlet’s account, not independently inspected system records. Whether the relevant backups still exist in a recoverable form is unknown.

The strongest assessment would compare each item’s date and provenance, whether it is contemporaneous or a later recollection, whether it contains the disputed names and specific concepts, and whether delivery to Wargaming can be authenticated. Internal project records and the applicable 2010 agreement would address separate parts of the dispute; one cannot substitute for the other.

What is known about Wargaming’s development account?

Power Up Gaming reports that Wargaming support characterized World of Warships as a “team effort” and did not identify individual originators. The outlet says Lesta Studio developed the game with Wargaming before the companies separated in 2022, when Wargaming exited Russia and Belarus. That reported team description does not identify who originated particular concepts or establish the project’s internal conception date.

What do the EULA and account suspension add to the dispute?

The terms for user submissions

Power Up Gaming reports that Wargaming’s EULA effective April 10, 2024 has a “Feedback and User Submissions” section advising users not to send unsolicited creative concepts and treating submissions as Wargaming’s property to the maximum extent permitted by law. The outlet says the official World of Tanks EULA last updated March 20, 2012 did not contain that section, but referred users to a separate Terms of Service. It did not locate a 2010 copy of those separate terms. The comparison therefore does not establish the full contractual rules applicable to a submission in 2010.

The 2021 account suspension

The outlet reports that Shashko’s main World of Tanks account was permanently suspended in 2021, with “forbidden modifications” given as the reason. Shashko believes the suspension was retaliation for his authorship claim, but Power Up Gaming says it saw no correspondence directly connecting the ban to that dispute. The reported evidence does not establish a causal link.

What remains unanswered?

  • What exactly did the 2010 tickets say, and did they include named concepts or attachments?
  • Do legacy backups containing relevant tickets still exist, and can they be restored or searched?
  • When did Wargaming first conceive its aviation and naval projects internally?
  • What Terms of Service governed submissions in 2010?
  • Was the 2021 account suspension related to Shashko’s claim?

Power Up Gaming reported that Wargaming had not responded to its questions by the time the story was published on October 2, 2026. That is a statement about the outlet’s reporting at publication, not a continuing account of the company’s response.
