Short answer: an Intel graphics-driver update can fix a specific game issue or improve performance in a supported title, but there is no sound basis for claiming that one new driver makes every MSI Claw faster. The result depends on the exact Claw model, driver version, game, power profile and settings. The supplied evidence does not include a controlled before-and-after test, so this article does not invent FPS, battery or frame-time results. Treat Intel’s advertised gains as game-specific claims—not measurements of a universal MSI Claw uplift.
First, which MSI Claw—and which driver?
“The MSI Claw” is not one fixed graphics platform. The original Claw A1M, Claw 7 AI+, Claw 8 AI+ A2VM and Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM use different hardware. In particular, the Claw 8 AI+ uses Intel Arc 140V graphics, while the Claw 8 EX AI+ moves to Arc G3 Extreme. Results from one generation cannot establish how another performs.
Intel’s official Arc Graphics for Windows download page lists generic driver 32.0.101.8864 in the available information. Intel says generic packages may bring newer features and fixes than OEM packages, while OEM drivers can include platform-specific customizations. A community post reported version 32.0.101.8974 on August 15, 2026, but an official Intel release-note page for that number was not available in the supplied evidence. Verify the installed version rather than relying on a post or an update label.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo check it, open Device Manager → Display adapters → Intel Arc Graphics → Properties → Driver. Record the complete version and date. Also note the Claw model and SKU, BIOS, Windows build, MSI Center M version, and whether the machine is on battery or AC power. Use winver for the Windows build and dxdiag to save a system report. The DirectX version shown by Windows is not the same thing as a graphics-driver version.

What the release notes can—and cannot—tell you
MSI’s notices for earlier Claw driver releases show why the answer is game-specific. One notice attributed an “up to 12%” average-FPS improvement in Stormgate at 1080p Medium with Temporal Super Resolution enabled to a particular driver revision and test setup. Other notices cover new-game support or fixes, alongside known problems. These claims do not mean every game gains 12%, or that the same result applies to every Claw model. Read the specific MSI driver notice and its conditions; do not treat vendor release-note figures as independent benchmark results.
Driver changes are only one part of the system. MSI previously described performance improvements involving a BIOS update, a GPU driver and MSI Center M together. If any of those change between comparisons, the result cannot be credited to the graphics driver alone. See MSI’s account of that combined update.

How to tell whether an update helped your games
A meaningful before-and-after comparison needs the same game build, scene or benchmark route, resolution, graphics preset, TDP, Windows power mode, MSI Center M profile, refresh rate and display mode. Keep XeSS or other upscaling, frame generation and VRR settings identical. Test each run more than once: the first launch after a driver change may stutter while shaders are rebuilt.
For each title, capture average FPS and 1% lows; include 0.1% lows where your tool provides reliable data. Frame-time consistency, GPU utilization and clock, package power, temperatures, fan behavior, crashes and visual artifacts help explain a change that an average-FPS number cannot. Include a game mentioned in the release notes and one that is not, plus a mix of APIs where practical. A single game’s improvement is evidence for that game, not a general driver uplift.

Separate rendered performance from generated frames. If XeSS 3 Multi-Frame Generation is enabled, report it clearly: a higher displayed FPS count does not necessarily mean lower input latency, better image quality or a smoother-feeling response. Compare VRR on and off, and note whether the result changes between capped and uncapped frame rates or between fullscreen and borderless modes.
Battery, VRR and everyday reliability
Battery claims need their own controlled test: use the same game, brightness, refresh rate, TDP, FPS cap, network state and background apps. Report both performance at the same power and power required to maintain the old performance. A worthwhile update might hold FPS while drawing less power, rather than raise FPS. Intel announced a power-management update for Arc 140V and 130V graphics, available for the Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+ with driver 32.0.101.6734 or newer. That announcement does not establish the same benefit for the original A1M or Arc G3 Extreme Claw 8 EX AI+; see Intel’s model- and driver-specific update.

Also check VRR, sleep and resume, controller input, MSI Center M hotkeys, audio, external-display output and whether Windows Update replaces the driver. Recent community posts discuss continuing Claw VRR problems and an unofficial “Intel VRR Fix 2.2.0.” Those reports are not an official Intel or MSI solution. Do not treat an unofficial patch as a routine driver step; if dependable VRR is essential, test carefully and prefer an official package and support route.

Should you install Intel’s generic driver?
Use Intel’s generic package if its release notes address a game or issue you care about and you are comfortable checking for regressions. Choose MSI Center M’s Live Update when you would rather prioritize MSI’s validated package over getting the newest generic release first. MSI has said that some Claw graphics updates appear on Intel’s site before arriving through Live Update. Neither route is categorically better for every user: Intel explains the trade-off between newer generic fixes and OEM customization on its driver download page.
Before changing drivers, save the current version and keep the prior installer if available; a restore point is prudent. Close games and monitoring overlays, install the chosen package, reboot, then verify the version in Device Manager. Recheck your MSI Center M profile, refresh rate, VRR and display settings. If something is wrong, reboot once more—shader rebuilding can cause temporary stutter—then verify which driver is installed. If needed, try Device Manager → Display adapters → Intel Arc Graphics → Properties → Driver → Roll Back Driver. If that option is unavailable, reinstall the previous known-good Intel or MSI package and reboot. Intel’s MSI Claw support guidance also addresses performance profiles and Windows Update replacing drivers.
Recommendation by Claw model and situation
- Claw A1M: consider a driver update for a relevant game fix or compatibility issue, but do not assume Arc 140V or Arc G3 Extreme results apply to this model. Keep an OEM fallback.
- Claw 7 AI+ or Claw 8 AI+ A2VM: check whether the package and any power-management claims explicitly cover Arc 140V/130V hardware. Measure battery behavior separately from FPS.
- Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM: its Arc G3 Extreme GPU is a different platform from the Arc 140V Claw 8 AI+. Do not use older-model benchmark results to predict its driver gains.
- Any model with a stable setup: wait if the new version lacks clear official notes or does not address games you play—especially if you rely on VRR, sleep/resume or a particular MSI profile.
- Any model with a crash or visual bug named in release notes: an update is worth testing, provided you record the old version and have a rollback plan.
The available evidence supports a cautious, game-by-game verdict, not a blanket “update for more FPS.” Install when a documented fix matters to your games, or when a controlled test on your exact Claw shows better lows, frame pacing, compatibility or power use without a regression you care about. Otherwise, a stable driver is a reasonable place to stay.
