Tiny11 is not a Microsoft gaming edition, and there is no reliable evidence that it universally boosts FPS. It is an unofficial, stripped-down Windows 11 image made by NTDEV. A 2023 release added Xbox Identity Provider support, which can help with Microsoft Store and Xbox services—but that is compatibility work, not a graphics or performance upgrade. Tiny11 may save disk space and reduce background clutter; whether it suits your games depends on the exact image and your tolerance for support, update, and compatibility risks.
What Tiny11 is—and what it isn’t
Tiny11 is a community-made modification of Windows 11, not a separate Microsoft product or officially supported edition. NTDEV’s Tiny11 Builder scripts create a reduced Windows image from a Windows installation ISO. The source Windows version, builder script, selected edition, and options determine what gets removed.
There are two important versions to distinguish:
- Regular Tiny11 Builder: Intended to produce a smaller, serviceable Windows installation. Updates and future servicing may still be affected by changes to Windows or by components removed from the image.
- Tiny11 Core: A more aggressively stripped image intended mainly for testing and development. The project warns that it is not normally serviceable: components such as the Windows Component Store, Windows Update functionality, and Windows Recovery Environment are removed. It is a poor choice for a primary gaming PC.
Tiny11 may make Windows install on hardware that does not meet Microsoft’s requirements, but an installation workaround does not make that hardware officially supported. Microsoft’s requirements for standard Windows 11 include a compatible 64-bit processor, at least 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability, TPM 2.0, and DirectX 12-compatible graphics with a WDDM 2.0 driver. What the 2023 gaming-focused release added
The Tiny11 release covered in the original “Windows 11 for gaming” headlines appeared on September 18, 2023. Its “23H2” label referred to the release period; the article described an image based on Windows 11 22H2. Those labels should not be confused with the Windows build actually used. The coverage highlighted x64 availability and the addition of Xbox Identity Provider support, along with Microsoft Store and Xbox-related access. It also noted that Tiny11 did not include activation. Xbox Identity Provider supports sign-in and integration with Xbox-related services. Its presence does not itself improve rendering, increase GPU utilization, or lower input latency. Store games and Xbox features also depend on other components, including the Store and Gaming Services, so one added identity component is not a guarantee that every Xbox app or Game Pass title will work.
What gets removed?
There is no single removal list that applies to every Tiny11 image. It changes with the builder revision, source Windows release, selected Windows edition, architecture, and whether you use the regular builder or Core. The project’s current script is a better guide to a particular build than an old article or a generic list.
The builder documentation and scripts describe removals or changes involving components such as Edge, OneDrive, Media Player, Quick Assist, Internet Explorer remnants, Tablet PC Math, and Microsoft apps or gaming components. The precise list varies; some scripts may remove Xbox-related parts. Core goes much further, removing servicing and recovery components as well.

That trade-off can reduce installation size and clutter, but it can also remove something a game, launcher, peripheral, or future Windows update expects. A smaller installation is not automatically a better gaming installation.
Does Tiny11 improve gaming performance?
It might reduce idle resource use or background activity on a particular PC, and it can free disk space on a small drive. But there is no basis for promising a universal FPS increase from Tiny11. Once a game is running, performance is usually governed more by the CPU, GPU, available RAM, storage, drivers, game engine, resolution and graphics settings, cooling, and the processes competing for resources.
To find out whether it helps your PC, compare the same game, scene, settings, driver version, power mode, and background workload on standard Windows and the Tiny11 image. Record average frame rate and frame-time consistency across repeated runs, and note any crashes or services that fail. Without that controlled comparison, “lighter” only describes the operating system footprint—not a proven improvement in gameplay.

Will your games and services work?
Many conventional Windows games may run because Tiny11 remains Windows-based, but a modified image cannot promise compatibility with every launcher or title. Games can depend on runtimes and Windows components that have been removed, and successful offline play does not establish that online multiplayer will work.

Controllers, Bluetooth devices, audio utilities, vendor control panels, and printers can also depend on services or companion applications that a stripped image changes. Check the requirements for your particular game and hardware, then test the exact build before making it your everyday installation.
Security, updates, support, and licensing
Trust the source of the image. A prebuilt ISO from an unknown download site cannot be trusted just because it carries the Tiny11 name. The safer route is to download a Windows ISO directly from Microsoft, get the builder from NTDEV’s GitHub repository, inspect the script, and build the image locally. Scan the resulting media and try it in a virtual machine or on a noncritical PC first.

Know what security and recovery components remain. Removing or disabling Defender, Windows Update, recovery, servicing, or related services can leave a system harder to protect or repair. This risk is particularly serious with Tiny11 Core. Keep a separate recovery option and do not treat security software as a substitute for a maintained operating system.
Do not assume every build updates normally. The regular builder is intended to remain serviceable, but updates can fail if Windows changes dependencies. Core is explicitly not a normal updateable installation. The project’s release history documents later Windows support, including 24H2; that does not guarantee every future release, Windows edition, or in-place upgrade will work. A new Microsoft ISO and a fresh build may be necessary.
Tiny11 is not officially supported by Microsoft. Microsoft’s published requirements remain the standard, and workarounds do not create an official support entitlement. Tiny11 also does not provide a Windows license or activation. Use legitimate installation media and comply with the applicable Windows license terms; a modified image is not a way around them.

How to build Tiny11 more safely
If you choose to try it, use the regular builder for a machine you intend to maintain. Follow the current Tiny11 Builder README, since commands and behavior can change. The documented general workflow is:
- Download a Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft’s official download page.
- Mount the ISO in File Explorer and note its drive letter. Keep the original ISO and back up your files.
- Download the builder from NTDEV’s GitHub repository. Read the script and README before running it.
- Open PowerShell 5.1 as Administrator. For the current PowerShell process only, the README gives this command:
Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process - Run the builder and provide the mounted ISO drive and a scratch drive. For example, the script documents:
.tiny11maker.ps1 -ISO E -SCRATCH DReplace the example letters with the drive letters on your PC. The general usage shown in the README is:
C:/path/to/your/tiny11/script.ps1 -ISO <letter> -SCRATCH <letter> - Select the Windows image or SKU when prompted, then wait for the builder to create
tiny11.iso. - Test that ISO in a virtual machine or on a secondary machine before replacing the Windows installation you rely on.
Before installing, back up personal files, confirm browser passwords or sync are available, record network, chipset, graphics, audio, Bluetooth, and storage drivers, and retain a bootable recovery option. If Store, Xbox, updates, recovery, anti-cheat, or drivers fail, rebuild from a fresh Microsoft ISO with the regular builder, retain more components, and test dependencies individually. If problems persist, reinstall standard Windows 11 rather than trying to make a broken daily driver work.

A selective debloat of standard Windows is usually the less disruptive experiment if your goal is simply to remove unwanted apps. If storage is the real problem, expanding storage may be safer than removing servicing or recovery components. If you depend on Game Pass, competitive multiplayer, or a work or school setup, keep standard Windows unless you have tested the exact modified image and can recover from failure.
