EA’s recent matchmaking update discusses solo players entering team matches—not a free-for-all playlist. Apex did have a limited-time Solos mode in 2019, but that history does not confirm a return.
What EA’s 2026 matchmaking update says
EA’s June 8, 2026 matchmaking update addresses the disadvantage solo players can face against coordinated three-player squads and discusses tests involving solo queue. Solo queue means entering a team-based match without a premade squad; it is not the same as a standalone Solos playlist where every player competes alone.

The official 2026 material reviewed does not confirm a new Solos mode, its release date, platforms, or availability window. The official update feed inspected included current live-game news, but did not provide a Solos announcement. That is a finding about the sources reviewed, not proof that no announcement exists elsewhere.
When Apex Legends last introduced a standard Solos mode
In an announcement dated August 13, 2019, the PlayStation Blog reported that Solos would debut as a limited-time mode during the Iron Crown Collection event. The format was a 60-player free-for-all, and the event was scheduled to last two weeks. The announcement said the mode did not include gameplay rebalances beyond minor interface and experience tweaks.

Lee Horn, then Apex Legends’ Director of Product Management, said: “At its heart, Apex is a competitive team game,” while explaining that community interest led the studio to try something different. That was an explanation of the 2019 event—not an announcement of a current return.
Why Shadowfall does not count as standard Solos
Shadowfall was another 2019 event mode, but its rules made it different from a free-for-all. Players began alone; after dying, they returned as members of an undead squad. The final ten living players had to cooperate to evacuate. Shadowfall’s solo start therefore does not establish that Apex is bringing back a standard Solos playlist.

- Which platforms, if any, would receive the mode.
Until an official announcement establishes those details, talk of a Solos return should be treated as unverified—not as confirmed news.
