Blizzard announced a new survival game for PC and console in January 2022, but gave no title or release window. In January 2024, Bloomberg reported that Microsoft had canceled the project, which it identified as Odyssey.
Did Blizzard announce a survival game for 2027?
No. Blizzard’s January 25, 2022 announcement said it was creating a survival game set in a new universe for PC and console, but it did not announce a title, release date, or release window. The post was a recruitment announcement, not a launch announcement. Blizzard’s announcement described the project this way: “We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console.”
What happened to Blizzard’s survival game?
On January 25, 2024, Bloomberg News reporter Jason Schreier reported that Microsoft canceled Blizzard’s survival project during a reorganization. Bloomberg identified the project by its codename, Odyssey, and reported that Microsoft informed employees by email and that some team members were let go. Bloomberg’s report is the source for the cancellation; the cancellation was not announced as a new Blizzard product update.
What was publicly known about the game?
Blizzard’s 2022 post established only a few details: a new universe, a survival-game genre, and PC and console as intended platforms. It did not specify particular consoles, gameplay systems, editions, or a public product name. The post listed roles in areas including world design, activities, AI, gameplay systems, physics, and core gameplay systems, but those hiring categories do not establish finished features.

Is Odyssey still expected to release?
The available reporting says the project was canceled in 2024, so there is no supported basis to describe Odyssey as an upcoming 2027 release. The sources do not establish whether Blizzard might develop a different survival game in the future; any such project would need its own official announcement and release information.
