As of August 18, 2026, Epic’s status page showed Fortnite as operational, including login, game services, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, statistics and the Item Shop. The only active incident listed was degraded Epic Games Store installation or updating for some Windows 10 users—not a Fortnite gameplay outage. Status can change, so check Epic’s live status page before troubleshooting. If you play on Xbox or PS4, check Xbox service status or PlayStation Network status too.
Is Fortnite down right now?
Epic’s August 18, 2026 status check showed Fortnite’s listed services as operational and no new Fortnite incident for August 18 or August 16. Recent listed Fortnite incidents had been resolved: login issues affecting some players in Mexico and matchmaking and party issues on August 14, plus Fortnite Reload matchmaking issues on August 5. The Mexico incident was regional, not evidence of a worldwide outage.
Epic lists services separately because login, matchmaking, parties, voice chat, statistics, the Item Shop and individual modes can have different problems. A green Fortnite status is useful evidence, but it cannot rule out a newly developing issue, a regional fault, or a problem limited to a platform, ISP, account or device. The same page may also list Epic Games Store launcher or download problems that do not mean Fortnite gameplay is down.
How to check Fortnite server status
- Check Epic first: open Epic Games Public Status and inspect the Fortnite components related to your symptom, such as login, matchmaking or parties. Check incident details for affected regions and updates.
- Check official Fortnite communications: Epic’s Fortnite Status social account may acknowledge emerging issues and post updates. Treat player posts and third-party outage reports as reports, not confirmation, unless Epic confirms the incident.
- Check your platform: use the Xbox status page for Xbox sign-in, multiplayer or party trouble, and the PSN status page for PlayStation sign-in or network errors.
- Compare devices or networks: if possible, try another device or a mobile hotspot. If the game works elsewhere, that points toward the original device, home network or ISP rather than a broad Fortnite outage.
Outage-reporting sites and community posts can help reveal a developing problem, but a spike in reports may reflect one ISP, region, platform, failed update or local network fault. Recheck official status rather than treating report counts as proof.

Diagnose the scope before changing settings
- Multiple platforms and regions fail: an Epic incident or maintenance is more plausible. Check official updates and wait if Epic confirms a service problem.
- One platform fails while others work: check Xbox or PSN status, then follow that platform’s steps below.
- Only one household is affected: restart the router and modem, check for an ISP problem, and test another connection.
- Only one PC is affected: separate a launcher/update issue from a Fortnite login or matchmaking issue, then check files, Windows, security software and network settings.
- Only login fails: investigate Epic or platform authentication and account sessions before changing matchmaking or NAT settings.
- Only parties or matchmaking fail: check Epic’s relevant service status, then consider NAT, crossplay, cache and connection quality.
Try these general fixes first
Epic’s connection troubleshooting guide covers login, downloads, updates, matches, parties, packet loss and latency. Work through low-risk checks before reinstalling:
- Check Epic status and, on console, Xbox or PSN status.
- Close and relaunch Fortnite. If that does not help, fully restart the PC or console rather than leaving the game suspended.
- Restart the modem and router, then check whether your ISP reports an outage or degraded service.
- Confirm Fortnite and the device operating system have installed available updates.
- Temporarily disconnect a VPN or proxy for diagnosis. Do not leave firewall or antivirus protection disabled; instead, check whether it is blocking Epic or Fortnite.
- Try Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi, or briefly test on a different network such as a mobile hotspot. This helps distinguish a home-network issue from a device or service issue.
Epic also lists public DNS, device-clock synchronization, cache resets, Windows updates, DNS flushing, Hosts-file resets and disabling interfering background applications among possible connection steps. These are targeted checks, not universal fixes: for example, DNS changes cannot restore an Epic outage, PSN or Xbox service, or a corrupted game installation.
Fortnite not working on Xbox
Check Xbox services and restart fully
If Xbox sign-in, multiplayer, parties or other Xbox functions are also failing, check Xbox service status before changing network settings. Fully shut down and restart the console if Fortnite is frozen or repeatedly failing to connect. Epic’s console troubleshooting guidance includes cache clearing and power cycling; use the current instructions for your Xbox model rather than relying on a button sequence that may differ. Epic’s console documentation often uses Series X|S terminology, so check model-specific directions if you use Xbox One.

For party or matchmaking failures
If you can log in but cannot join a party or match, check the Xbox NAT type, restart your router and make sure crossplay is enabled when joining players on other platforms. Epic lists NAT, router issues, cache and crossplay among potential causes of party error 91. Avoid manual port forwarding as a first step; it requires router changes and is generally worth considering only for a persistent NAT problem.
“Error Connecting to Epic Services Queue”
Epic directs Xbox players who see this message to contact Microsoft Support. It is not an error that can always be resolved through Fortnite settings.
Fortnite not working on PC
Work out whether the launcher or the game is failing
Note where the failure occurs: the Epic Games Launcher may be unable to install or update Fortnite; it may label a game unavailable; Fortnite may launch but fail at login; or login may work while matchmaking does not. These point to different services and fixes. On August 18, 2026, Epic listed a Windows 10 Epic Games Store installation/update issue while Fortnite itself was operational, illustrating why a launcher problem does not automatically indicate a Fortnite gameplay outage.

Verify Fortnite’s files
If the game launches but crashes, fails to load or may have corrupted files, use the Epic Games Launcher:

- Open the Epic Games Launcher and go to Library.
- Open the menu for Fortnite and select Verify.
- Wait for the scan and any repair to finish, then launch Fortnite again.
Update Windows and graphics drivers
Install available Windows updates and current graphics-card drivers. Epic’s guidance for “Unable to log in to Fortnite servers. Please try again later” also says to check that the PC meets Fortnite’s current system requirements and to address background applications that may interfere. See Epic’s login-error guidance.
Test VPN, proxy, firewall and DNS issues
Temporarily test without a VPN or proxy; either can change routing or interfere with a connection. Do not permanently disable security software. If Fortnite works on a hotspot but not at home, check the router, firewall, parental controls or DNS filter for blocked Epic services. Epic’s ESP error guidance recommends checking status, restarting network equipment, disabling VPNs or proxies for testing, and trying another connection.

As a limited Windows network diagnostic, open Command Prompt and run ipconfig /flushdns. It clears the PC’s local DNS resolver cache; it does not repair an Epic outage, ISP failure, packet loss, account issue or damaged game files. Epic also documents DNS flushing and resetting the Windows Hosts file in its connection guide.
Fortnite not working on PS4
Check both services, then restart
For PlayStation sign-in failures, Epic advises checking both PSN status and Epic status. Restart the PS4 and router; if the connection is intermittent, test Ethernet if available. Epic’s PlayStation sign-in guide includes clearing the console cache and refreshing the PlayStation account session. Use current PlayStation instructions for your console rather than assuming a PS5 menu path applies to PS4.

If the message says “Unable to sign in with your PlayStation Network account. Please try again later,” sign out of the PlayStation account and sign back in. If the issue persists after Epic’s other network checks, contact PlayStation Support for a PSN authentication or console-network problem.

Stuck at “Checking for Updates”
Epic identifies this as a possible communication problem with its servers. First check status, then restart the modem/router and review the PS4 network connection. Epic’s PS4 update troubleshooting also includes restoring PlayStation licenses and trying a wired connection. If testing DNS manually, Epic cites Google DNS values of primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4. Changing DNS may help a resolver problem, but is not a general remedy for an Epic or PSN outage.

When should you wait instead of troubleshooting?
Stop changing local settings when Epic confirms an incident affecting the service you need, multiple unrelated platforms fail in the same period, or maintenance is underway. Recheck the incident page for updates; repeatedly reinstalling, changing DNS or resetting a router will not restore a service that Epic or a platform provider has taken offline. A status page that remains green while the same issue occurs on another device and network is a reason to recheck official communications, not proof that the issue is global.
When to contact support
- Microsoft Support: Xbox service failures or the “Error Connecting to Epic Services Queue” message.
- PlayStation Support: persistent PSN sign-in or console-network problems after checking PSN status.
- Epic Support: persistent Fortnite account, game-service or cross-platform problems when platform services are available.
- Your ISP: other online services are also slow or unreachable, or the connection fails across devices on the same network.
Keep reinstalling for last: consider it only after status checks, restarts, updates, cache or file repair, and network tests point toward a damaged installation or failed update. It takes time and bandwidth and cannot fix a server-side outage.
