Not really. GeForce NOW is primarily a cloud gaming PC for games you already own or can access through supported subscriptions. Xbox Game Pass is primarily a changing game-library subscription; eligible plans also include Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming. The services overlap, and some PC Game Pass titles can run through GeForce NOW, but neither service is a replacement for the other in every situation.

What GeForce NOW actually gives you
GeForce NOW runs supported PC games on NVIDIA’s cloud computers and streams the result to a PC, Mac, browser, phone, tablet, TV, handheld or other supported device. It can spare you large downloads, patches and the cost of a powerful local gaming PC.
It connects to accounts and libraries such as Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft Connect and PC Game Pass where supported. NVIDIA advertises more than 4,500 PC games, but that is not a promise that every game is included, or that every title in your library works. Support is title-by-title and can depend on the storefront, region, membership and whether the game uses standard support or Install-to-Play. See NVIDIA’s supported service details.
You normally need to own the PC game or have an active entitlement through a supported subscription. An Xbox console license is not automatically a Microsoft Store PC license. Install-to-Play can install eligible games in the cloud, but it still does not turn GeForce NOW into an unlimited game catalog.

What Xbox Game Pass actually gives you
“Game Pass” describes several entitlements:
- PC Game Pass supplies a Windows PC catalog, day-one releases under the current plan rules and other benefits. It does not mean every included PC game is streamable through Xbox Cloud Gaming or GeForce NOW.
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate combines console and PC access with Xbox Cloud Gaming, day-one releases and benefits such as EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics where listed. Xbox currently advertises more than 500 games for Ultimate, but catalogs vary by time, region, plan and platform.
- Xbox Cloud Gaming is Microsoft’s own streaming service. It streams supported games from Xbox infrastructure; it is not GeForce NOW running under another name.
As listed on the U.S. pages on August 18, 2026, PC Game Pass was $13.99 per month and Ultimate was $22.99 per month. Prices and availability vary by country and can change; check the current Xbox plans.
Can Game Pass games work on GeForce NOW?
Some can, but not all. A game must be in the Game Pass PC entitlement, supported by GeForce NOW, and available through the correct PC storefront or authentication path. You may need to link your Microsoft account, then select the matching Xbox/Microsoft Store, Steam or other version in GeForce NOW.

Game Pass catalog membership and GeForce NOW compatibility are separate databases. A title that works in Xbox Cloud Gaming may have no supported PC version on GeForce NOW. Games can also leave Game Pass, change storefront support or be unavailable in your region. The accurate rule is: Game Pass can supply access to selected supported PC games; GeForce NOW is not a full Game Pass streaming client.

GeForce NOW versus Xbox Cloud Gaming
For streaming, the fair comparison is GeForce NOW versus Xbox Cloud Gaming. GeForce NOW generally uses PC versions and premium NVIDIA GPUs, with RTX features and higher advertised resolution or frame-rate modes on Ultimate. NVIDIA advertises RTX 5080-class performance and up to 5K/120 in supported conditions. Xbox Cloud Gaming uses supported Xbox/cloud versions and the limits of the specific title, plan, device and region. Advertised resolution is not a universal picture-quality benchmark.

Both services depend heavily on distance to a data center, Wi-Fi quality, packet loss, device decoding and game support. NVIDIA recommends less than 80 ms latency to its data center and lists requirements from 15 Mbps for HD up to 60 fps to 45 Mbps for 4K/120 and 65 Mbps for 5K/120. These are requirements or recommendations, not guarantees. Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi is preferable; jitter and packet loss can matter as much as download speed. See the GeForce NOW requirements.
GeForce NOW supports a broad range of computers, browsers, mobile devices, TVs and handhelds, while Xbox Cloud Gaming supports browsers, phones, tablets, consoles and selected TVs. Which service should you choose?
Choose GeForce NOW if you:
- Already own games on Steam, Epic, GOG, Ubisoft Connect or another supported store.
- Use a Mac, Chromebook, handheld, TV or inexpensive laptop.
- Want PC graphics settings, RTX features, high frame rates or higher resolutions.
- Play a stable set of confirmed supported games and want to avoid local installation.
Choose Game Pass if you:
- Want to sample a large catalog instead of buying each game.
- Play Xbox or Microsoft-published games and value day-one releases.
- Want console, PC and cloud access in one Microsoft subscription.
- Will use bundled benefits such as EA Play or other listed perks.
Consider both if you:
You want Game Pass’s catalog but prefer NVIDIA’s PC streaming experience, own games across several PC stores, and have checked that your specific Game Pass titles work on GeForce NOW. This can be useful, but it is also a double subscription: Game Pass supplies the entitlement and GeForce NOW supplies the cloud PC.
Choose local hardware—or neither—if you:
Your connection is unreliable, you need offline play or extensive mods, rely on unsupported launchers and peripherals, play latency-sensitive competitive games, or want permanent access without recurring subscriptions.
How to use Game Pass and GeForce NOW together
- Subscribe to PC Game Pass if you need its catalog.
- Use the free GeForce NOW tier or a day pass to test your network and device.
- Subscribe to Performance or Ultimate only if the test is satisfactory.
- Link your Microsoft/Xbox account in GeForce NOW.
- Search for the exact game and confirm the supported PC storefront or Game Pass path.
- Launch it through GeForce NOW and sign in when prompted.
This setup can combine catalog breadth, purchased PC libraries and stronger cloud-PC performance. It cannot make unsupported titles playable.
Common mistakes
- “It is on Game Pass, so it must work on GeForce NOW.” Only selected supported PC titles do.
- “I bought the Xbox version, so I own the PC version.” Console, Microsoft Store PC, Steam and cloud entitlements can be separate.
- “Every Steam game works.” GeForce NOW’s catalog is broad, not universal.
- “Game Pass means permanent ownership.” Games can leave the catalog; purchases remain tied to their storefront account.
- “A paid plan guarantees no queues.” Queue priority and wait times depend on plan and current demand; Xbox advertises shorter waits for Ultimate, not instant access.
- “Cloud gaming replaces installation completely.” Standard streaming avoids local installs, but Install-to-Play may involve cloud-side installation and storage.
Bottom line
Choose Xbox Game Pass for access to lots of games, day-one releases and Microsoft’s cloud service. Choose GeForce NOW for streaming compatible PC games you own or can access, especially when you want PC-oriented graphics on modest hardware. Choose both only after confirming your games work on GeForce NOW and deciding that the overlapping monthly cost is worthwhile.
