No. Grand Theft Auto V is not currently available as a new free claim on the Epic Games Store. Epic’s giveaway ended on May 21, 2020, at 11 a.m. Eastern. Epic’s current PC listing is for the paid Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced edition, which includes Grand Theft Auto V Legacy.
When was GTA 5 free on Epic?
Epic announced the promotion on May 15, 2020. Players could claim Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V through May 21 at 11 a.m. Eastern, after which the entitlement remained in the claimant’s Epic account. The promotion was a one-time, dated offer—not a permanent free-to-play listing and not an offer that remains open today.
Search results, social posts and old videos can still show the phrase “free today,” but that wording describes the 2020 promotion. It should not be read as current Epic Store availability.
What Epic sells now
Epic’s PC product page describes Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced as a paid product and says the purchase also includes Grand Theft Auto V Legacy. The page displayed a $29.99 base price and a $14.99 sale price with a listed sale end date of September 17, 2026. That sale date has passed, and the page information was crawled before September 28, 2026, so treat those figures as displayed offer information rather than a guaranteed checkout price. Verify the amount on the live Epic checkout page.

If you claimed GTA 5 in 2020
Do not try to claim the game again as though the promotion were active. Instead, confirm that you are using the Epic account that made the original claim.
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and sign in to the account used in May 2020.
- Open Library.
- Clear or reset library filters, then search for Grand Theft Auto V.
- Check for the standard/Premium Legacy entry and the Enhanced entry. Epic says owners of GTA V receive the Enhanced edition automatically.
If the game is still missing, Epic’s support guidance specifically recommends resetting filters and searching for Grand Theft Auto V. Also check that you have not signed into a different Epic account, since an entitlement cannot be transferred simply by installing the launcher on another account.

Enhanced versus Legacy
Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced
Enhanced is the newer PC edition shown in Epic’s current listing. Epic support describes the upgrade as automatic for existing GTA V owners, while new customers obtain it through the paid product listing.
Grand Theft Auto V Legacy
Legacy is the older PC edition. Epic’s Enhanced product includes Legacy, and Epic support documents both entries in the Library. If Legacy does not appear for an existing owner, use the filter-reset and title-search steps above before assuming the entitlement is gone.

PC requirements for the Enhanced edition
Epic’s listed requirements are version-specific and may change as the game is updated. The page identifies these minimum examples:
- Windows 10
- 8 GB of RAM
- 105 GB available on an SSD
- Graphics examples including an NVIDIA GTX 1630 or AMD RX 6400
Its recommended configuration lists:
- Windows 11
- 16 GB of dual-channel memory
- 105 GB of DirectStorage-compatible storage
- Graphics examples including an NVIDIA RTX 3060 or AMD RX 6600 XT
Check Epic’s live system-requirements panel before buying, especially if your PC is near the minimum or you plan to install updates. The requirements above are for the Enhanced PC listing, not a promise that every older Legacy installation has identical requirements.

What about GTA 5 on PlayStation?
The PlayStation Store lists a separate PS4/PS5 version, sometimes presented as Grand Theft Auto V PS5. That is a console purchase and entitlement handled by PlayStation. It does not revive, extend or substitute for Epic’s expired PC giveaway.
