No—there is no currently confirmed free trial of GTA Online on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s free trial ran from November 11 to November 17, 2025, and ended. Afterward, Rockstar said players would need to acquire GTA Online Standalone to keep playing, and the console subscription requirement would return. Your current options are to buy the game or, on supported platforms, use qualifying paid membership access.

What happened to the free GTA Online trial?

Rockstar’s free trial was available to all players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S from November 11 through November 17, 2025. It was a limited-time promotion, not a permanent free-to-play change. Rockstar stated that after it ended, players would need to acquire GTA Online Standalone to continue playing, and PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass requirements would return.

Route	PS5	Xbox Series X\|S	What to know
Buy GTA Online Standalone	Available to purchase. The US PlayStation Store page displayed a regular price of $19.99 when retrieved October 8, 2026.	Available to purchase in the Xbox Store; the cited UK listing does not state a price.	Store prices and sales vary by region and can change. Check your local listing before buying.
Access through a paid catalog or membership	The PlayStation Store listing surfaced GTA+ and PlayStation Plus Extra catalog access.	The cited Xbox Store listing does not establish current Game Pass catalog inclusion.	Membership access is not a free trial. Catalog availability can change; confirm the game is included in your region before subscribing.
Play online with a console subscription	Rockstar said the PlayStation Plus requirement returned after the trial.	The Xbox Store says console multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately.	Buying the game and meeting the console’s online-play requirement are separate parts of access.

How to check your options before paying

Open the store for your console and region. Search for “GTA Online” and select the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S listing, rather than assuming an older promotion applies.
Check the purchase and membership details. Look for the current standalone price and, on PS5, whether catalog or GTA+ access is currently offered. On Xbox, check the listing and your membership’s current catalog rather than assuming Game Pass includes the game.
Confirm the online-play requirement. Xbox’s cited listing specifies Game Pass Core or Ultimate for console multiplayer. On PS5, account for the PlayStation Plus requirement Rockstar said returned after the trial.
Review the terms before subscribing. A catalog listing or membership route is paid access and may change; verify the current local terms and whether the game remains available before you commit.

Is GTA+ a free way to keep playing?

No. Rockstar describes GTA+ as a monthly paid membership available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is a membership route, not a continuing free trial. See Rockstar’s GTA+ membership information for supported consoles and purchase channels.

Does the answer differ between PS5 and Xbox?

PS5

You can buy GTA Online Standalone, and the PlayStation Store listing may also show qualifying GTA+ or PlayStation Plus Extra catalog access. The US listing retrieved October 8, 2026, displayed $19.99 as the regular standalone price; that is not a guaranteed price for other regions or future dates. Check both the local price and whether the membership option still includes the game.

$75 PlayStation Store Gift Card [Digital Code]

Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.

Xbox Series X|S

You can buy GTA Online Standalone, but the cited Xbox Store listing says console multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately. That listing does not establish that GTA Online is currently included in a Game Pass catalog, so do not treat the online-play requirement as proof of catalog access.
