HDR10+ GAMING can improve how a supported PC game maps highlights and shadows to a compatible display, but it is still a niche feature—not a universal upgrade. As of June 2026, HDR10+ Technologies described consumer support as available on PCs with NVIDIA and Intel GPUs; its live games list showed 16 titles in August 2026. You need the right display, game, GPU, driver, Windows setting and connection for it to work.
What HDR10+ GAMING does
HDR10+ GAMING is an open HDR standard developed with Samsung among its prominent supporters; it is not exclusive to Samsung. Its purpose is to let a compatible game engine account for the connected display’s capabilities when mapping the game’s brightness range. The aim is to preserve highlight and shadow detail more consistently and reduce the need to calibrate each game by eye. HDR10+ Technologies says the standard is open to manufacturers, GPU makers and game studios.
That does not make a display brighter than its panel can get, improve textures or raise frame rates. It changes HDR tone mapping. The result can vary by game and display, and a restrained image may look less vivid than a TV’s enhanced HDR preset.

Do not assume that a TV supporting HDR10+ video also supports HDR10+ GAMING. Gaming support requires specific certification and a compatible source and game. HDR10+ ADAPTIVE is a separate feature associated with adapting HDR presentation to viewing conditions; HDR10+ ADVANCED is a newer expansion with additional display and gaming-related capabilities. The HDR10+ ADVANCED white paper describes that expansion.

What you need for HDR10+ GAMING
The currently documented consumer PC setup has four core requirements, according to HDR10+ Technologies’ FAQ:
- A certified HDR10+ GAMING TV or monitor.
- A game that supports HDR10+ GAMING.
- A certified compatible NVIDIA or Intel GPU with current drivers.
- HDR enabled in Windows, with the PC connected over HDMI in the currently documented GPU implementation.
The specification is designed for other digital display interfaces too, but the organization’s documented PC implementation is HDMI-based. It says HDMI 2.0 or later is sufficient for HDR10+ GAMING signaling; HDMI 2.1 may still be needed for separate goals such as 4K at 120 Hz. The organization’s HDMI FAQ distinguishes those requirements.
Which games support it?
The official list showed 16 titles when checked in August 2026. The list can change, so check the live HDR10+ GAMING games page before buying a game or display.

Compatibility may differ by game version, patch, GPU vendor, driver, launcher and HDR pipeline. A 2025 announcement, for example, described NVIDIA support updates for F1 25 and Intel support for Cyberpunk 2077, illustrating why a game’s name alone is not a guarantee. See the announcement.
Does it work with Samsung TVs, consoles and AMD GPUs?
Samsung displays
Support depends on the exact model and firmware, not just the Samsung name or the presence of HDR10+. Samsung announced gaming-standard support on select 2022 4K and 8K TVs and gaming monitors, including Q70-series-and-above models in that launch generation; that is not proof that every later or current model supports it. Check Samsung’s announcement, then verify the exact model in the certified-products listings.
PlayStation and Xbox
The standard is designed to support consoles and handheld devices, but HDR10+ Technologies’ June 2026 FAQ described currently available consumer support as PC-based, with NVIDIA and Intel GPUs. Do not infer HDR10+ GAMING support on a PS5 or Xbox from the TV’s capabilities: the console, game and display combination must be specifically confirmed. A console may output ordinary HDR10 instead. AMD GPUs
The organization’s June 2026 compatibility information identified NVIDIA and Intel support. That does not establish current AMD compatibility; check the certified GPU list and your game’s requirements rather than assuming support or ruling out future changes.

- Check the display: Look up the exact TV or monitor model in the HDR10+ certified-product listings. Do not rely on brand, HDR10+ video support or product year alone.
- Check the game and GPU: Confirm the title appears on the live game list and that your NVIDIA or Intel GPU is eligible. Update its driver.
- Connect by HDMI: For the currently documented PC implementation, connect the PC directly to the display by HDMI. An AVR, dock, capture card or adapter can complicate signal compatibility.
- Enable Windows HDR: Open Settings > System > Display, select the HDR display, then turn on Use HDR. Windows labels can vary by version.
- Enable Game Mode: Turn on the display’s Game Mode and ensure it accepts HDR. Exact menu names differ by model and firmware.
- Launch the supported game: The display should switch automatically to HDR10+ GAMING when a compatible title starts.
- Verify the mode: Look for an HDR10+ GAMING indicator, mode label or menu entry on the display. The indicator varies by model; if it does not appear, troubleshoot the full compatibility chain before changing picture settings.
HDR10+ Technologies explains how to check whether the mode is active. If the game has HDR controls, adjust them only after confirming the display has entered the intended mode.
What the picture may look like
The intended benefit is better display-aware mapping of the game’s luminance range—not extra brightness. HDR10+ GAMING may look darker or less punchy than an enhanced HDR preset because it aims to reflect the display’s actual peak brightness. HDR10+ Technologies says this can be expected and can vary by game because each engine handles mapping differently. See its FAQ.

Compare modes using image detail, not brightness alone. In a scene with bright skies, lamps, reflections or explosions, look for texture in highlights as well as detail in dark areas. Check whether blacks are crushed, highlights lose detail, or the image looks gray and washed out. If the picture seems wrong, check whether the display is adding a second, conflicting tone-mapping pass; the FAQ recommends using the display’s HDR10+ GAMING mode to avoid that conflict.
HDR10+ Technologies says the format itself does not add display-processing input latency because tone mapping is handled on the game-engine side. That is a format-level claim, not a claim that the whole PC and display chain has zero latency. The organization also says the format is designed to work with VRR and ALLM and does not itself cause brightness flicker; those statements do not guarantee identical behavior across every panel, firmware and game. If HDR10+ GAMING does not activate
Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm the exact display is certified for HDR10+ GAMING, rather than merely HDR10+ video.
- Check that the specific game is on the current supported list and is updated.
- Confirm the GPU is an eligible NVIDIA or Intel model and its driver is current.
- Make sure Windows HDR is enabled for the intended display.
- Use HDMI for the currently documented PC implementation and bypass docks, receivers or capture devices while testing.
- Enable Game Mode and HDR acceptance on the display, then relaunch the game.
If the mode activates but the image is flat, check for conflicting display tone mapping and compare highlight and shadow detail with the game’s normal HDR presentation. Do not assume that a brighter preset is more accurate.

Is HDR10+ GAMING worth choosing?
It is most compelling when you already want a certified display, play supported PC titles, have a compatible NVIDIA or Intel GPU, and value consistent tone mapping over a deliberately boosted look. It may also suit players who dislike repeating manual HDR calibration, though correct Windows, driver, game and display settings still matter.
It is a weak reason by itself to buy a new TV, monitor or GPU if you mainly play consoles, depend on unconfirmed AMD support, or your favorite games are absent from the list. Sixteen listed games is a modest library for a feature that requires every link in the chain to match.
For a display purchase, prioritize the whole gaming experience: contrast or OLED black levels, real HDR brightness, performance in your games, input lag, refresh rate, VRR behavior, response time, screen size and ergonomics. For console 4K/120 Hz, check HDMI 2.1 separately. For OLED, also consider burn-in risk and warranty terms. A strong panel with excellent ordinary HDR may be a better choice than a weaker display carrying the gaming-format badge.
Alternatives and the buying decision
Standard HDR10 with careful in-game calibration, a display’s Game HDR mode, or HGiG-style handling may suit a player whose games do not support HDR10+ GAMING. Dolby Vision Gaming is another dynamic-HDR option on compatible device and game combinations; availability is platform- and title-dependent. In all cases, display quality and game support matter more than the format label.
If you are already comparing Samsung products, start with Samsung’s gaming-TV range or gaming monitors, but verify each model’s specifications and certification. Other manufacturers named by HDR10+ Technologies include Hisense, Amazon, Prism+ and Haier; their general product pages are not proof that a particular model supports the format. Check the exact model against the official certified-products list before buying.
