Microsoft has not publicly confirmed a separate Xbox game store for Android or given it a firm release date. What Android users can use now is the Xbox mobile app, which has a Store tab for buying Xbox and PC games, add-ons, and Game Pass. That is an expansion of Xbox commerce—not a general Android app marketplace, and a purchase does not make a game installable on an Android phone.
What is Microsoft bringing to Android?
The important distinction is between an independent Android marketplace and the Xbox app’s store. The first would distribute Android games as an alternative to Google Play. The second sells Xbox ecosystem products through an app Android users can already install.

Xbox describes the app as a place to shop for Game Pass plans, Xbox console and PC games, and add-ons. Its Xbox on Mobile page presents mobile as part of a broader Xbox experience, not as a replacement for Google Play.
What changed, and why old launch reports are misleading
Microsoft discussed a mobile games store after its Activision Blizzard deal and, in 2024, Xbox president Sarah Bond said the company expected to launch one in July. That was an announced target, not evidence that a separate consumer Android store subsequently launched. Later coverage described delays and Android app testing focused on a store section within the Xbox app rather than a standalone native-mobile marketplace. Microsoft then made mobile purchases available through the Xbox app in 2025. On December 16, 2025, Xbox announced a dedicated Store tab with purchases, add-ons, Game Pass, wishlists, and add-on search in the Xbox December update. Those changes make the app more useful for Xbox customers, but do not amount to a confirmed public launch of an independent Android app store.
What Android users can do with the Xbox app
The Xbox app’s Android requirement and cloud gaming’s Android requirement are different. Xbox lists the app as compatible with Android 8.0 or later; its current mobile cloud-gaming guidance lists Android 12 or later. Check the Xbox mobile app page and Xbox on Mobile for current availability and conditions in your region.
- Browse Xbox games and add-ons, buy eligible products, and manage Game Pass.
- Build a wishlist, search for add-ons, and manage your Xbox profile and library.
- Queue a compatible game for remote installation to your Xbox console.
- Use remote play to stream a game installed on your own Xbox console to your phone.
- Open xbox.com/play to stream eligible cloud games where the service, account, title, device, and region are supported.
Xbox recommends a connection of at least 20 Mbps for cloud play on its current mobile page. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee of good performance: latency, connection stability, Wi-Fi congestion, and server availability also affect streaming.

A purchase on Android is not an Android game download
Buying through the Xbox app generally grants the relevant Xbox console or PC entitlement, depending on the title and its terms. It does not turn the purchase into an Android APK or native phone installation. Xbox itself distinguishes buying games from remote play and cloud play on its mobile app page.
After buying, check which platform the listing covers. A console game can be installed remotely to an Xbox and played there. A PC-compatible title belongs to the applicable PC ecosystem. A supported cloud title can be streamed through the browser if the account, region, device, and subscription qualify. To play locally on Android, you need a separate Android release from the publisher.
Which popular games are actually involved?
There is no confirmed launch catalog for a separate Xbox Android store in the official pages cited here. Microsoft’s ownership of a mobile franchise does not establish that it will be offered through a future storefront. Keep three different kinds of availability separate:

Microsoft-associated games with mobile editions
Microsoft’s gaming business includes mobile properties such as Candy Crush, Call of Duty: Mobile, Diablo Immortal, Warcraft Rumble, and Minecraft mobile editions. These are examples of Microsoft-associated mobile games, not confirmed launch titles for a standalone Xbox store. Microsoft’s SEC filing discusses mobile distribution and publishing exposure across platforms including Google Play, Apple’s App Store, and Amazon Appstore.

Xbox games streamed to Android
Some console and PC games can be streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming, subject to the live catalog and service requirements. Streaming is not an Android port: the game runs remotely and video is sent to the phone. Xbox’s mobile page describes cloud play and touch-enabled games; availability can change.
Xbox games bought on Android and played elsewhere
The app can sell console and PC games and add-ons. Those purchases may be useful to an Xbox or PC player without providing any way to install or run the game natively on Android.

How to buy and play through Xbox on Android
- Install: Download the official Xbox app from Google Play. The app page lists Android 8.0 or later.
- Sign in: Use the Microsoft account associated with the Xbox profile and library.
- Find the product: Open the Store section or search for a game, add-on, or Game Pass plan. If the Store tab is missing, update the app and check again; interface availability can vary by version, region, or rollout.
- Check platform and terms: Confirm whether the listing is for Xbox, PC, or another entitlement before buying. If a buy option is absent, the title, region, account, or platform may not be eligible; check the Microsoft Store listing as well.
- Choose how to play: Install a console title remotely to your Xbox, play through a compatible PC entitlement, use remote play from your console, or stream an eligible cloud title at xbox.com/play.
If a purchase will not install on the phone, that is expected when it is an Xbox or PC license rather than a native Android release. If cloud play is unavailable, check regional service availability, subscription, device, browser, and title eligibility. For poor streaming, try a stable 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection and reduce network congestion before buying new equipment; the 20 Mbps figure is Xbox’s recommendation, not a promise that bandwidth alone will fix lag.
Why Microsoft wanted a mobile store—and what would make one matter
The strategic case is broader than adding another place to browse. Microsoft wants Xbox to span console, PC, cloud, and mobile, and a direct mobile channel could give it more control over discovery, commerce, subscriptions, and account relationships. A larger mobile publishing portfolio, including Activision Blizzard and King properties, makes mobile distribution important to the company. It would need a useful catalog, discoverability, attractive developer economics, reliable payments and updates, and a clear benefit such as cross-progression or Xbox account integration. Otherwise, users could end up with another library and another update channel for games they can already find elsewhere.
Why a standalone store is harder than a Store tab
- Platform and distribution requirements: Android installation, billing, security, and regional rules shape how a third-party marketplace can operate. An Android plan would not automatically create an equivalent iPhone or iPad store.
- Catalog economics: A storefront needs enough native mobile games or compelling services to persuade users to install it and publishers to support it.
- Discovery and fragmentation: A store that mostly points to existing games may not be worth another app, payment history, and update channel for players.
- Different game formats: Xbox console titles, native Android games, cloud-streamed games, and remote-play sessions are not interchangeable. A store must make clear what users can actually install and where they can play.
- Regional variation: Store policies, payment options, Xbox features, and cloud availability can differ by country. There is no basis to treat the earlier delay as proof that Google alone blocked a launch.

Google Play, Samsung Galaxy Store, Amazon Appstore, and Epic Games Store mobile are distinct distribution options with different catalogs and geographic or device availability. Choose based on the specific game and its official publisher listing rather than waiting for an unannounced Microsoft storefront. For Xbox owners, the Xbox app already covers mobile purchasing, account management, and console-oriented features; Game Pass subscribers can separately check cloud eligibility on Xbox’s mobile page.
