PSN status checked: October 3, 2026 — live status not verified. Check Sony’s PlayStation Service Status page for the current condition before troubleshooting. This article cannot confirm whether PSN is down at this moment, which services or platforms are affected, or whether Sony has announced an incident. The status page is dynamic; a cached result is not a reliable live check. Next update: when Sony posts a status change or the live status is checked.
How to check whether PSN is down
- Open Sony’s PlayStation Service Status page and check its current indicators. Look for the affected service, not just an overall impression of whether PSN is “up.”
- Check Sony’s official support information for an incident or maintenance notice. Individual complaints and outage-reporting spikes can reveal symptoms, but they do not establish the cause, region, or scope.
- Compare the reported issue with what still works: sign-in, multiplayer and social features, Store access, or a particular game. This helps separate a partial PSN problem from a console, account, home-network, or game-server issue.
Sony separates PlayStation Network availability into services such as Account management, Gaming and social, PlayStation Store, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Direct. A problem with one does not necessarily mean the whole network is unavailable. The official status page is the strongest source, but a developing, intermittent, or regional problem may not appear there immediately.
What “PSN down” can mean
Different failures can look similar on a console. Sign-in problems may point to account management; failed multiplayer, parties, friends, or messaging may involve Gaming and social; and a Store loading or purchase problem may be limited to the PlayStation Store. Video and Direct have separate service indicators. Trophies, profile data, and digital-game license checks can also behave differently depending on the service and the game.
A game may also use its publisher’s own login and gameplay servers. If only one title fails while other PSN features work, check that game’s official server or support page. A green PSN status does not guarantee that every third-party online game is available.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Is the problem widespread or local?
- A Sony-listed service outage or maintenance: Treat the listed service and platforms as the confirmed scope. Do not assume that PS4, PS5, the website, and PlayStation App are all affected unless Sony says so.
- Several unrelated PSN features fail across different locations: A wider PSN incident is more plausible, particularly if Sony’s status page or official support channels acknowledge it.
- Only one console, account, or home connection fails: A local network configuration, sign-in, or account issue is more likely than a broad outage, though an unlisted regional or intermittent fault remains possible.
- Only one game fails: Check the game publisher’s servers, maintenance notices, and login requirements before changing console settings.
- Other devices on the same network also have trouble: Investigate the internet connection or router. If other devices work but the PlayStation does not, focus on console connectivity, account access, or a PlayStation-specific issue.
What to do if Sony reports an outage
If the relevant service is degraded or under maintenance, wait for Sony’s recovery update. Avoid repeated router resets, DNS changes, or major console resets: they cannot repair a confirmed Sony-side service interruption. Some unaffected services or offline features may remain usable, but availability varies by game, account, license, and console configuration. Do not assume every digital game will launch offline.
What to do if PSN appears operational
Sony’s guidance for PS5 server-connection errors recommends checking PSN status first, then trying local network troubleshooting when PSN is active. Use the following sequence rather than jumping to a factory reset:

- On the console, test its internet connection using the network settings. If the console is offline, resolve the home-network connection before treating the problem as a PSN outage.
- Reconnect to the network or reset the console’s network settings if appropriate. Follow Sony’s connectivity support instructions for your console.
- Turn off the router and modem, leave them off for at least five minutes, then turn them back on. Try the connection again after they reconnect.
- If many devices are using the network, temporarily disconnect some and retry. This is specifically among Sony’s recommendations for PS5 error WS-116486-6.
- If the issue seems temporary, wait and try again later. If it continues after PSN is restored, use Sony’s support hub for connectivity, account, Store, or Repairs help.
Troubleshoot by symptom
Cannot sign in
Check Account management on Sony’s status page. If it is operational, confirm that the account can be accessed and that sign-in details or verification are not the problem. Account-specific restrictions or authentication failures can resemble a network outage; use Sony’s account and security support rather than resetting the console.
Parties or multiplayer do not work
Check Gaming and social, then check the affected game’s own server status. If the Store and other PSN functions work, that does not rule out a social-service or game-server problem.

The Store will not load
Check the PlayStation Store service indicator separately from Gaming and social. If the Store is reported as operational, consider whether the problem is account-specific, regional, or related to a particular purchase or payment rather than a full PSN outage.
Digital games will not launch
License validation and offline play differ by title, account, and console configuration. A PSN outage can affect some launches, but it does not mean every digital game will stop working. Check the game’s offline requirements and the status of the service it needs; avoid deleting data or resetting the console as an initial response.

PlayStation fails while other devices work
If other devices on the same connection are online, test the console’s connection and follow Sony’s connectivity steps. A functioning internet connection on another device does not prove that PSN is fully available, particularly during a regional or intermittent fault.

- WS-116486-6: An issue connecting to the server. Sony advises checking PSN status, turning off the router for at least five minutes, reducing the number of devices using the network, and waiting before retrying. See Sony’s WS-116486-6 guidance.
What not to do during a suspected outage
- Do not treat a handful of user reports as proof of a global outage or a confirmed cause.
- Do not repeatedly restart networking equipment when Sony confirms a service interruption.
- Do not change DNS settings, rebuild the database, or factory-reset the console without a specific reason and appropriate Sony guidance.
- Do not infer that a PS5-specific error applies identically to PS4.
- Do not assume that a green status page rules out every regional or intermittent problem, or that one game’s failure means PSN itself is down.
