What happened to PUBG: Black Budget?
KRAFTON’s September 30, 2026 announcement says the company decided to end development after reviewing the project’s status and future direction. The PUBG: Black Budget team wrote: “We have therefore made the difficult decision to end development of PUBG: Black Budget.”
The Steam store listing still describes the game as an extraction shooter, names PUBG Corporation as developer and KRAFTON, Inc. as publisher, and displays “To be announced” as its release date. But it also states, “This game is not yet available on Steam.” A visible listing is not a released game.
How to check whether a game is actually playable
- Check the official announcement feed. Open the game’s Steam announcements and read the latest dated status notice. For Black Budget, the latest relevant notice says development ended.
- Read the store’s availability text, not just the page controls. Black Budget’s page has a request-access control, but also says the game is not yet available on Steam. A persistent button does not establish that access is currently being granted.
- Look for a current test schedule and eligibility rules. The official second closed-alpha schedule ran June 26–29, 2026. An earlier December 2025 alpha notice said access would be disabled after that test ended. These were dated, limited windows—not ongoing invitations.
- Use only an official, current download route. The official material cited here does not announce a purchasable release or a new way to download the game. An old client, key offer, mirror, or gameplay video is not proof of current official access. Treat third-party claims cautiously and verify them against the official feed.
What the old playtests do—and do not—tell you
The cited record establishes that the June 2026 closed alpha had a scheduled end date and that access to the December 2025 alpha was disabled after it ended. It does not establish what happened to every later test permission or whether an already-installed client still launches. KRAFTON’s September 30 development-ending announcement does not say that servers were shut down or that all test access was revoked.

Accordingly, “development ended” is not by itself proof of the precise status of every existing installation or permission. There is no current official public test or release notice in the cited material; check the announcement feed for any newer service or access update before relying on an old invitation or client.
Should you upgrade your PC for Black Budget?
No. Do not buy parts based on the game’s old test specification: it applied to the June 2026 closed test, not to a currently available release or a confirmed future build. That test listed these minimums:

- Check whether the store says the game is available, rather than relying on a request-access or wishlist control.
- Verify that the download comes from an official storefront or a route explicitly named by the developer or publisher.
- Separate old test requirements and invitations from current availability.
