Restream can carry a long YouTube broadcast, but it is a risky choice for one uninterrupted 24/7 stream. Restream says its server may undergo maintenance and restart during continuous streams longer than 24 hours, and recommends restarting every 24 hours. YouTube does not impose a stream-duration limit, but it automatically archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. Plan for daily restarts or shorter sessions, and monitor the broadcast rather than assuming it will stay uninterrupted.
Can I stream on YouTube 24/7 with Restream?
Yes, YouTube allows long-running live streams, and Restream says it does not set a stream-duration cap. But Restream warns that its server may be restarted for maintenance during a continuous stream lasting more than 24 hours. Its Help Center advises: “To prevent potential issues, we suggest restarting your stream every 24 hours.” The guidance is a warning and recommendation, not a published duration cap or an uptime guarantee. If you are planning an unattended broadcast, ask Restream about service expectations and whether your intended use fits your plan; its duration article says streams beyond 24 hours may require a custom pricing plan through Sales.
For a video-game channel, that distinction matters: YouTube accepting a long stream does not ensure that every link in the delivery chain will run without interruption. A 24/7 setup needs a restart or segmentation plan, a way to notice failures, and a tested recovery process.
Will YouTube save a 24/7 livestream?
Not as one complete automatic replay. Restream’s Help Center and YouTube’s encoder guide both state that streams under 12 hours are archived automatically. A stream that runs 24 hours or longer therefore should not be treated as a single replay that viewers can reliably watch afterward.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you need both continuous live programming and dependable on-demand viewing, divide the broadcast into sessions shorter than 12 hours and confirm that the resulting replays appear as intended. Alternatively, arrange a separate recording and archive workflow. The archive threshold concerns replay availability; it does not solve stream continuity or prevent a Restream-side restart.
What to check before using Restream for a continuous channel
Confirm channel access and eligibility
Restream’s YouTube setup guidance says live streaming must be enabled on the channel, and the connecting Google account must be the channel owner rather than a manager or editor. YouTube requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait before a channel can stream for the first time. YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance also says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days.

Check the plan against the actual workflow
Restream’s premium-feature comparison, dated February 9, 2026, lists simultaneous destination allowances of 2 for Free, 3 for Standard, 5 for Professional, 8 for Business, and 25+ for Enterprise. Those are destination counts, not a promise of continuous operation. The comparison describes prerecorded-video streaming as a higher-plan feature, but does not establish which subscription permits unattended 24/7 prerecorded rotation or what usage limits apply. Check the current plan terms with Restream before building an automated channel around that feature.
Plan the source, restart, and monitoring
YouTube accepts streams from software and hardware encoders. YouTube recommends testing stream quality against available upload bitrate, using RTMPS where supported, checking the preview before going live, and monitoring stream health. Its guidance also says to “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality.” These are operating recommendations, not evidence that a particular source or service has been tested for 24/7 reliability.

A hardware encoder can supply video, but buying one does not prevent a Restream server restart. The cited guidance does not establish a specific encoder model or unattended configuration as suitable for a 24/7 deployment.
How to make a Restream-based setup less fragile
- Verify the YouTube channel first. Enable live streaming, complete phone verification, allow the stated 24-hour first-stream wait, and confirm there is no live-streaming restriction.
- Choose a session strategy. For a channel that needs replays, use sessions shorter than 12 hours and verify each archive. For a continuous channel, schedule a restart at least every 24 hours in line with Restream’s recommendation; do not treat that interval as a guarantee against other interruptions.
- Test the full signal path. Before relying on the setup, test the source, Restream connection, YouTube preview, audio and video, and the process for restarting and restoring the broadcast. YouTube recommends checking stream health and available upload bitrate.
- Monitor during operation. Have someone or a monitoring process notice a dropped feed, missing audio, poor video, or a failed restart, and define how to resume the stream. The cited sources do not specify an automatic failover arrangement or Restream uptime commitment.
- Protect the stream key. YouTube uses the key with the server URL to route an encoder’s feed. Treat it like a password; if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings.
- Set viewer controls for their actual purpose. YouTube’s latency and DVR settings affect viewing delay and the ability to pause or rewind. They do not prevent a stream from dropping or a server restart.
Alternatives for keeping a YouTube stream running
There are three broad approaches: a relay such as Restream, a source encoder connected directly to YouTube, or a specialist cloud service that plays uploaded videos continuously. Compare whether the source can run unattended and recover, the service’s restart policy and commitments, archive and session behavior, prerecorded-video limits, and the destination and operator allowances on the plan. The available official guidance does not establish a Restream uptime SLA or a model-by-model encoder comparison.

- StreamNeo — first to consider for uploaded-video loops. It runs uploaded videos from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot; the first day is free with no card. It is YouTube-only and does not stream from a camera. See StreamNeo for details.
- Restream — a relay for a source you operate. It can carry long YouTube streams, but its own guidance recommends a daily restart for continuous streams over 24 hours. Its cited plan comparison does not establish entitlement to unattended 24/7 prerecorded rotation.
- Direct software or hardware encoder — control the source yourself. YouTube supports both, but the channel still needs a suitable always-running source, monitoring, and recovery plan. The cited guidance does not verify a particular encoder or configuration for unattended 24/7 use.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a channel built around uploaded gameplay, a cloud loop avoids leaving a computer and home connection running. With StreamNeo, upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The stream continues from the cloud; no computer, OBS, or home connection has to stay on. Uploads stream as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
