Short answer: the original Roblox Account Manager release discussed in the 2024 Malwarebytes thread was treated as a likely false-positive case, not as a confirmed virus. That discussion did not certify every copy, mirror, fork, or later release as safe.
Roblox Account Manager is also a high-trust utility. It can handle Roblox passwords, .ROBLOSECURITY session cookies, browser sessions, account data, WebSockets, local APIs, and multiple Roblox clients. That means a malicious or modified build could put Roblox accounts at serious risk even if the original source project was not proven malicious.
The safest conclusion is therefore: do not use an unknown copy, do not treat the Malwarebytes discussion as a security guarantee, and do not assume that malware safety means Roblox will permit the software. If minimizing risk matters more than convenience, use Roblox through its official website and client and switch accounts manually.
What the Malwarebytes discussion actually established
The Malwarebytes forum thread concerned a user who reported warnings about Roblox Account Manager 3.7.2, the original project’s release published on July 18, 2024. The user said Windows Defender had quarantined the program as a Trojan, Chrome’s download protection had warned about it, and VirusTotal had shown several detections for older versions.

The thread did not end with a forensic investigation proving that the executable was clean. Its documented sequence was narrower:
- On August 14, 2024, the user reported the Windows Defender and VirusTotal warnings.
- The user repeated the developer’s explanation that WebSocket and account-control features could resemble remote-access-tool behavior to heuristic scanners.
- Malwarebytes expert David Lipman requested the actual Malwarebytes detection log.
- On August 15, the user said that Windows Defender and Malwarebytes were no longer detecting the application, although Chrome had previously displayed a warning.
- The Malwarebytes expert replied that, if Malwarebytes was no longer flagging the program, there was no current Malwarebytes detection to investigate, and the topic was closed.
You can read the Malwarebytes forum exchange directly.
BleepingComputer described the detection as most likely a false positive and began a diagnostic process. However, the public thread did not develop into a complete independent analysis because the requested diagnostic evidence was not fully developed there. That makes it useful supporting context, not a blanket security certification. See the BleepingComputer discussion.
In practical terms, the evidence supports this statement:
The particular 3.7.2 warning discussed in those forums was not proven to represent malware, and the available responses leaned toward a false positive. The evidence does not prove that every 3.7.2 download, every release asset, every dependency, or every later fork is safe.
Why the program can trigger security warnings
Antivirus products do not only identify known files by exact signature. They also use behavior, reputation, heuristics, cloud analysis, and combinations of suspicious characteristics. A relatively obscure, unsigned or uncommon utility that interacts with game clients, browsers, cookies, and network connections can attract generic detections even when it is not stealing data.
The original project’s README describes functions that help explain why a scanner might become suspicious:

- WebSocket and Account Control features: these allow communication with or control of Roblox-related activity. Network control behavior can look similar to remote-access software when viewed without context.
- Cookie and password handling: the program can import
.ROBLOSECURITYcookies and username/password data, save account passwords, and make stored passwords copyable from the interface. - Browser sessions and automation: it can open browser sessions associated with selected accounts.
- Multiple Roblox instances: it changes the normal launch or client behavior to support multiple game clients, which can produce GameHack, PUA, or game-modification-style labels.
- Local APIs and developer functions: the project includes a local Web API, developer mode, and other functions that may be powerful or risky if enabled.
- Automatic updating: the project’s README itself identifies its updater as a possible reason for detections. An updater is security-sensitive because it can download and replace application code.
- Unusual distribution: a little-known executable downloaded from GitHub may have low reputation with browser and antivirus services, even if its code is legitimate.
The WebSocket and updater explanation comes from the project’s own documentation. It is a plausible explanation for a generic or heuristic alert, but it is not independent proof that a specific detection is false.

What Roblox Account Manager can access
The most important security question is not simply whether the program has a virus label. It is what would be exposed if the program, its updater, a dependency, or a downloaded copy were malicious.
The original project is designed to manage multiple Roblox accounts. Depending on how it is configured, it can work with:
- Roblox usernames and passwords;
.ROBLOSECURITYsession cookies;- locally stored account data, including
AccountData.json; - browser sessions and authentication state;
- account switching and account-control functions;
- multiple Roblox client instances; and
- local API and developer-mode functionality.
The README warns users not to share account data files. It also documents an rbx-player link feature and warns that generated links can allow another person to launch or control activity through the user’s account session. That warning is significant: a valid session cookie can be more immediately useful to an attacker than a password because it may authenticate an existing session without requiring the password.
This does not prove that the upstream 3.7.2 release steals accounts. It means that the application has access to valuable authentication material. A malicious mirror, compromised release, unsafe dependency, or altered updater could abuse that access.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy local encryption is not a complete answer
The original project claims local encryption for account data and recommends encrypting saved passwords. Its documentation also describes a way to disable encryption entirely. More fundamentally, encryption at rest and application trust solve different problems:
| Protection | What it helps with | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| Encryption at rest | Can make a stored file harder to read if someone obtains it while the program is not using it. | It does not stop a malicious or compromised program from reading the data when it is running. |
| Password protection | Can reduce exposure from casually opened local account files. | It does not protect a password after you deliberately enter it into an untrusted application. |
| Session-cookie protection | Can avoid repeatedly entering a password. | A stolen valid session cookie can still enable account abuse. Treat it like a credential. |
For that reason, open source and local encryption lower some risks but do not make an account manager automatically safe enough for valuable accounts.

Original Roblox Account Manager versus newer projects
Search results and download pages can make separate projects look like different versions of the same application. They are not necessarily the same software.
| Project | Status in the August 10, 2026 snapshot | What that means |
|---|---|---|
Original ic3w0lf22/Roblox-Account-Manager |
Archived and read-only on October 1, 2024. Its latest GitHub release is 3.7.2, published July 18, 2024. | This is the project associated with the 2024 Malwarebytes discussion. It is not an official Roblox product. |
evanovar/RobloxAccountManager |
Active separate Python project. Its latest visible release in the supplied snapshot is v2.6.3, published August 9, 2026. | It is inspired by the original but explicitly says it is not an official continuation. Its files and security properties must be assessed separately. |
| Mirrors, reuploads, Discord attachments, video-description downloads, and unrelated websites | Unverified by the original project’s release history. | They may be modified, repackaged, outdated, or malicious. A similar filename is not evidence of authenticity. |
The word new needs clarification:
- If you mean the release in the Malwarebytes thread, you mean original RAM 3.7.2.
- If you mean the active project currently found under a similar name, you may mean evanovar RAM v2.6.3.
- If you downloaded a so-called updated version after the original repository was archived, it may be a fork or an unofficial reupload rather than a new official release.
The active fork’s README says its compiled executable is unsigned, handles passwords and cookies, includes browser automation, and offers running from source for users who do not trust the compiled executable. An unsigned executable is not automatically malicious, but it gives you less cryptographic assurance about who built it and whether the file was altered. The fact that a project is active also does not mean that it has been independently audited.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →How to interpret VirusTotal, Defender, Chrome, and Malwarebytes results
A VirusTotal score is not a verdict by itself. VirusTotal aggregates results from many security vendors, and those vendors use different engines and labels. A small number of generic or heuristic detections can be false positives; several consistent, specific detections from reputable vendors should be treated as a serious warning.
Before deciding what a scan means, establish exactly what was scanned:
- Was it the ZIP, the main executable, or a DLL inside the archive?
- Was the file downloaded from the exact maintainer’s GitHub release page?
- What is the file’s SHA-256 hash?
- What was the scan date?
- Are the labels generic, such as PUA or GameHack, or specific labels identifying an infostealer, credential stealer, RAT, or remote-access Trojan?
- Do several vendors independently describe the same suspicious behavior?
- Do the detections remain after updating signatures and rescanning?
- Does a source-built version exhibit the same behavior?
GameHack is not automatically equivalent to malware. Such a label can refer to software that changes game-launch behavior or enables multiple game instances. The original README confirms that RAM deliberately supports multiple clients and alters Roblox launching behavior. But the reverse is also true: a game-related label should not be dismissed automatically. A specific credential-stealer or RAT detection deserves a very different response from a generic PUA label.
Likewise, a quiet scan does not prove that a file is safe. It only means that the scanners used at that time did not report a detection. Avoid saying that VirusTotal found the program clean unless you record the exact hash, scan date, and result.
How to verify a download before running it
This process can reduce uncertainty; it cannot guarantee that an executable is safe.

- Stop at the warning. Do not click through a browser, Defender, or Malwarebytes warning just to see whether the program opens. Preserve the original ZIP or executable if you need to investigate it.
- Record the source. Write down the complete repository URL, owner name, release tag, asset filename, and download date. The original project directs users to its GitHub Releases page, not to arbitrary reuploads.
- Check the project identity. Confirm that the repository owner and project name match the intended upstream project. A page saying updated, patched, undetected, or virus-free is not an authenticity check.
- Calculate the SHA-256 hash. In PowerShell, run a command against the exact file you downloaded:
Get-FileHash .Roblox.Account.Manager.3.7.2.zip -Algorithm SHA256
Replace the filename with the actual asset name. A ZIP hash and the hash of an extracted EXE will be different; compare like with like. If there is no trusted hash for the exact release asset, the result can identify the file but cannot prove its authenticity.
- Inspect the archive before execution. Compare its contents with the upstream release or source tree. Be suspicious of unrelated DLLs, obfuscated scripts, PowerShell files, cracks, script executors, browser extensions, or an extra launcher that is not part of the upstream project.
- Scan the ZIP and extracted executable separately. Different components can receive different detections. Note the exact path and filename reported by each product.
- Do not disable protection globally. Do not turn off Defender, create a broad exclusion, or follow instructions that demand security be disabled merely because a community post calls a detection a false positive. Submit the exact file and download URL to the security vendor for review instead.
- Use a disposable test environment if testing is necessary. A fresh Windows virtual machine is safer than testing on a computer containing personal Roblox, email, Discord, browser, Microsoft, or payment sessions. A virtual machine is not a guarantee, and it should not contain valuable credentials.
- Do not import valuable credentials during the first test. Never begin by entering a primary Roblox password or importing a valuable account’s
.ROBLOSECURITYcookie. If the program needs an exclusion before it works, stop and investigate rather than treating that as a normal installation step. - Consider a source build separately. Building from reviewed source can reduce the risk that a release asset was replaced, but it does not automatically make dependencies, build tools, or the source itself safe. It also does not make the software official or guarantee compliance with Roblox rules.
Indicators that lower concern
- The file came directly from the exact maintainer repository and matching release tag.
- The asset name and hash match a trusted record for that same file.
- The archive contains only expected files.
- Detections are limited, generic, and consistent with documented account-control, WebSocket, browser, or multi-instance behavior.
- The application does not request unrelated administrator access or ask you to disable system security.
- Its network activity is limited to expected Roblox activity, GitHub update checks, and integrations you explicitly enabled.
Indicators that should make you stop
- The download came from a Discord attachment, YouTube description, file-hosting site, or unrelated mirror.
- The file is advertised as patched, cracked, undetected, or newly updated after the original repository was archived.
- The archive contains unrelated executables, obfuscated scripts, or unexpected DLLs.
- Multiple reputable vendors identify the exact file as an infostealer, RAT, credential stealer, or Trojan using specific detection names.
- The application asks for a broad Defender exclusion or requests administrator rights without a clear need.
- It opens browser sessions or accesses cookies when you did not initiate an account action.
- Roblox, Discord, email, or browser sessions become invalid immediately after installation.
Malware risk and Roblox ban risk are different
Whether a program is malicious and whether Roblox permits its behavior are separate questions.
The original README reportedly claimed that users could not be banned for using RAM. That is an old developer statement, not a current Roblox guarantee. Roblox’s current anti-cheat guidance warns against modified versions of the Roblox app and software that changes how Roblox works, and tells users to uninstall unofficial versions. RAM’s multi-instance and launch-modification features create a policy and detection risk that cannot be dismissed by saying the tool is not malware.

No source located for this article provides a current Roblox guarantee that Roblox Account Manager is permitted.
So there are at least three separate risks:
| Risk | Question | What can be concluded |
|---|---|---|
| Malware risk | Does this exact file contain malicious code? | The 2024 3.7.2 case was not confirmed as malware, but every copy still requires verification. |
| Credential risk | Could the program, updater, dependency, or mirror access passwords and session cookies? | Yes, the software is designed to handle those materials, so a malicious build could cause serious account compromise. |
| Enforcement risk | Could Roblox detect or penalize client-modifying or multi-instance behavior? | There is meaningful uncertainty and no current no-ban guarantee. Follow Roblox’s current guidance rather than an old project README. |
What to do if you already installed or ran it
Your response should depend on both the source and what the application handled.
If you downloaded an unverified copy but see no obvious compromise
- Close Roblox Account Manager and any related processes.
- Delete the downloaded archive and extracted folder if you cannot establish that the copy came from the intended upstream release.
- Run a full scan with your installed antivirus, restart the computer, and run another scan.
- Review browser extensions and remove anything unfamiliar. Also check for unexpected startup entries, scheduled tasks, or other persistence if the security product reported a serious detection.
- From a clean device, change the Roblox password if the application handled that password or your account session.
- Enable Roblox two-step verification using the official Roblox instructions.
- Review the Roblox account email address, phone number, active sessions, account settings, transactions, Robux balance, and inventory.
- Repeat the credential review for Discord, email, browser sync, Microsoft, and other accounts that were logged in on the same computer.
Do not assume that a normal-looking Roblox account means nothing happened. Session theft can be silent, and a malicious program may target other accounts rather than Roblox.
If you see signs of compromise
Warning signs include an unauthorized Roblox password, email address, or two-step-verification change; unknown sessions or devices; missing Robux or items; unexpected Discord activity; exposed browser passwords or cookies; or a security product specifically identifying a credential stealer, infostealer, or RAT.

- Use a separate clean device to change important passwords and invalidate active sessions where the service provides that option.
- Do not continue signing into accounts on the affected computer until it has been adequately cleaned or professionally assessed.
- Run full malware scans and consider professional malware-removal assistance for a specific stealer or RAT detection, persistence, or multiple compromised accounts.
- Follow Roblox’s hacked-account recovery guidance. Roblox recommends removing suspicious off-site downloads and browser extensions, running a full scan, restarting and scanning again, resetting the password, and enabling two-step verification.
- If you cannot recover the account, contact Roblox Support using the first email associated with the account or, where applicable, the billing email used for the first payment. Roblox says recovery is not guaranteed. For compromised inventory or currency, it says users should contact support within 30 days of the compromise, and assistance with lost items or currency is limited.
Are there safer alternatives?
Use the official Roblox website and client
The lowest-risk option is to sign in through Roblox’s normal website and official client and switch accounts manually. It is less convenient for people managing many alternate or farming accounts, but it avoids giving an unverified third-party account manager a collection of passwords and session tokens.
Use separate browser profiles
Separate browser profiles can reduce repeated logins without installing an account-management executable. They do not provide the same multi-client functionality, and browser extensions and cookies still need to be handled carefully.
Evaluate a community fork as a separate program
The active evanovar project may be relevant to readers who need a maintained alternative, but active development is not an independent security audit. It is a separate Python project, explicitly not an official continuation of the original, and its compiled EXE is described as unsigned. It should not inherit the conclusions of the 2024 Malwarebytes discussion.
Anyone considering it should examine that exact repository, source, release history, dependencies, signatures, hashes, and current security detections. Do not treat its version number as a continuation of original RAM 3.7.2, and do not assume that a source-available project is safe to trust with primary accounts.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Calling the Malwarebytes thread a certification: the expert closed the topic after there was no current Malwarebytes detection to investigate; that is not an audit of all releases and copies.
- Assuming open source means no malware: users commonly run precompiled binaries. Source availability does not prove that a release asset was built from the visible source, that dependencies were safe, or that a mirror was not modified.
- Using an older release because it had fewer detections: version 3.6.1 was not certified either. Older software can contain outdated dependencies, obsolete authentication logic, or unpatched problems.
- Equating a GameHack or PUA label with a virus: the label may reflect multi-instance or launch-changing behavior, but it still needs context.
- Equating a quiet scan with safety: no detection is not proof that the exact file is trustworthy.
- Disabling Defender to make the tool work: a security exclusion removes protection precisely where a modified build might need to be detected.
- Confusing malware safety with ban safety: a clean utility can still perform behavior that Roblox’s current anti-cheat guidance discourages.
- Calling every similarly named project the new official version: the original repository is archived, and newer projects are separate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Roblox Account Manager 3.7.2 a confirmed virus?
No confirmed malware finding is established by the available 2024 discussions. Malwarebytes stopped investigating after the reported copy was no longer being detected, and BleepingComputer considered a false positive likely. That conclusion applies only to the investigated case and does not certify every download or copy.
Can Roblox Account Manager steal my account?
A malicious build could, because the software can handle Roblox passwords, .ROBLOSECURITY cookies, browser sessions, and account data. This capability does not prove that the original 3.7.2 release stole accounts, but it means you should treat the program as high-trust software and avoid unverified builds.
Is the newer Roblox Account Manager fork safe?
Do not assume so. The active evanovar project is separate from the archived original, is explicitly not an official continuation, and its compiled executable is unsigned. Evaluate its exact source, dependencies, release asset, hash, and detections independently.
Can using Roblox Account Manager get me banned?
There is no current no-ban guarantee. Roblox’s anti-cheat guidance warns against modified clients and software that changes how Roblox works, while the original project’s older claim that users could not be banned should not be treated as current policy. Malware risk and Roblox enforcement risk are separate.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: the original Roblox Account Manager 3.7.2 warning was treated as likely a false positive, but the Malwarebytes thread did not prove that all copies are safe. Because RAM can handle passwords and session cookies, an unofficial or modified build could compromise accounts. Download only from a precisely verified upstream source, never casually disable security tools, and remember that Roblox’s current anti-cheat guidance creates a separate enforcement risk. For the lowest-risk setup, use Roblox’s official client and switch accounts manually.
