Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteSonic Racing: CrossWorlds is worth considering if you want a quick, feature-rich kart racer for local parties, cross-platform online races, or ongoing competition built around vehicle and gadget customization. Its official feature lists describe several ways to play, from split-screen cups to 12-player online races. It is a weaker fit if your main priority is a story campaign: the official materials cited here describe race modes and progression, not a narrative campaign.
What you get in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
SEGA’s launch announcement describes a 23-character Sonic roster, customizable machines and gadgets, crossplay, and online modes including World Match, Festival events, and Time Trial. Nintendo’s product listing gives a broader feature snapshot: 24 tracks, 15 CrossWorlds, 23 characters, 45 original vehicles, 70 gadgets, and 23 items. Those are publisher and store-listing figures, not independent measurements.
The appeal is not only the number of tracks or characters. You can choose between structured cups, party-style rules, solo time chasing, and online competition, then tune a vehicle with gadgets as you progress. That variety makes the game easier to recommend to groups with different play habits than a racer built around one main mode.
Which modes can you play?
Grand Prix
Grand Prix is the cup-style option: race through a set of events and compete for the overall result. Nintendo lists local split-screen for its Switch version. SEGA confirms local play generally, but local player counts and configurations depend on platform.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Race Park
Race Park is the party-mode choice, with team and rule variations that change the shape of a race. Nintendo lists it as local split-screen on Switch, while SEGA’s corporate product information says it can be played locally and online. It is the best fit when your group wants more than a standard race or cup.
World Match
World Match is the online competitive mode, with races against other players and a rating that progresses through play. SEGA and Nintendo both describe online races for up to 12 players. SEGA has adjusted balance and progression-related systems in later updates, so exact competitive conditions may change with patches.
Friend Match
Friend Match lets you race online with friends and set custom rules. Xbox’s official listing describes lobbies for up to 12 players with custom settings; a later SEGA update added an option to play multiple rounds. It is the mode to look for when you want a private session rather than matchmaking against the wider player pool.

Time Trial
Time Trial is the solo option: focus on finishing a course quickly and improving your time. It is useful when you want to practice or play without coordinating a group or entering an online race.
Festival and Legend Competition
Festival events add team-oriented play and limited-time competition. SEGA added the regular Legend Competition event mode in December 2025, with later updates also referring to World Championship Qualifiers in the competitive ecosystem. Event formats and rewards are time-sensitive, so check SEGA’s current announcements if a particular event is part of your buying decision.
How local multiplayer and crossplay work
SEGA says supported platforms can race together through crossplay. The exact local and online player counts are platform-specific; Nintendo’s published figures for its listing are:

| Switch play setup | Players listed by Nintendo |
|---|---|
| One system | 1–4 |
| Local wireless | 2–8 |
| Online | 2–12 |
Nintendo notes that some configurations may require additional accessories. Check the requirements for the specific console setup and number of players you plan to use. Do not assume these Switch counts apply to every platform.
For a household or group, the practical distinction is straightforward: Grand Prix and Race Park cover shared local play on the Nintendo listing, while World Match and Friend Match cover online competition. Crossplay expands who can join supported online races, but it does not change platform-specific local-play limits.

Gadgets affect customization, but access is not simply a fixed list available from the start. SEGA’s December 2025 patch notes state that some gadgets require Gadget Plate rank thresholds and that Donpa Tickets can be used to buy some gadget kits previously distributed as Festival rewards. In June 2026, SEGA said it had raised gadget availability by rank and added a Donpa Ticket bonus chance in World Match and Legend Competition. Unlock conditions and balance have therefore changed over time.
One onboarding detail sometimes associated with the game is specific to its 2025 Open Network Test: SEGA said completing the first four-race Grand Prix in that test unlocked World Match and other modes. That was a test condition, not evidence of the current full game’s onboarding sequence.

Who should buy it?
- Good fit: You want a Sonic-themed kart racer with local party modes, online play, crossplay on supported platforms, and customization that gives you ongoing unlock goals.
- Good fit: Your group wants options beyond standard races, including custom online lobbies, team play, or solo time trials.
- Consider carefully: You mainly want a story-driven single-player campaign. The official feature descriptions covered here emphasize racing modes and progression, not a narrative campaign.
- Check first: Your decision depends on a particular platform’s local player count, an event reward, a current gadget threshold, or competitive balance. Those details are platform- or update-specific.
For players who primarily want racing—especially multiplayer—the documented mode mix gives CrossWorlds a clear case. The buying decision is less certain for someone seeking a substantial narrative experience, since that is not established by the official product information described here.
