Usually, not for YouTube alone. Streamlabs Desktop is free, while Ultra is a paid bundle whose benefits include multistreaming and expanded access to Streamlabs creator tools. The reviewed Streamlabs materials do not promise that Ultra will keep a broadcast online 24/7, automatically recover from failures, or protect its archive. Consider Ultra if you will use its paid features; do not buy it on the assumption that it guarantees continuous streaming.
What Ultra adds—and what it does not establish
Streamlabs lists Ultra starting at $15.75/month on its page retrieved in 2026. The final checkout price may vary with billing term, region, tax, or offer, so confirm the current terms before subscribing. Streamlabs positions Ultra as a bundle that includes multistreaming, full access to overlays and widget themes, the Desktop App Store, and premium features across its creator suite. Desktop itself is available free. (Streamlabs, “Boost Your Stream’s Growth with Streamlabs Ultra”)
The key distinction for a 24/7 channel is that a paid feature bundle is not the same as an uptime service. The reviewed Ultra feature descriptions do not document continuous-operation guarantees, automatic failover, or uninterrupted service. A desktop broadcast still depends on the computer, encoder, power, network, monitoring, and a recovery plan.
Do you need Ultra to stream to YouTube?
If YouTube is your only destination, the sources do not establish that you need Ultra. Streamlabs says its free Dual Output feature supports one horizontal and one vertical platform. Its multistreaming guide says Ultra is needed for more than two platforms total, multiple platforms of the same orientation, or additional destinations. Check the current Streamlabs interface and plan details for your exact setup. (Streamlabs Support, “How to Multistream for Free”; “Getting Started with Streamlabs Desktop”)

| Your workflow | What the reviewed Streamlabs materials establish | How to decide |
|---|---|---|
| One YouTube destination | Desktop is free; the sources do not establish that Ultra is required for a single destination. | Start with free Desktop unless you have another reason to pay for Ultra. |
| One horizontal and one vertical destination | Free Dual Output supports this described two-output case. | Try the free feature if it matches your destinations and orientation. |
| More than two destinations, multiple destinations of one orientation, or other added destinations | Streamlabs says these multistreaming cases require Ultra. | Consider Ultra if you will actually use those destinations. |
| Overlays, widgets, app library, or other creator-suite benefits | Ultra includes expanded access to these tools; the reviewed sources do not establish their value for every creator. | Compare the specific tools you expect to use with the subscription cost. |
Will Ultra keep a stream live all day?
Do not treat the subscription as protection against a stream ending. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends using the Live Control Room preview and checking that the event is accessible. Its streaming tips also advise monitoring audio and video quality and leaving bandwidth headroom; the page retrieved in 2026 gives a recommendation of 20% beyond the total stream bitrate. YouTube warns, “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” These are operational precautions, not an Ultra uptime promise. (YouTube Help, “Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder”; “YouTube live streaming tips”; “Streaming tips”)
Plan for power, network, and recovery
- Check that the stream is actually live and accessible in the Live Control Room; a running encoder alone does not confirm that viewers can watch.
- Monitor audio and video rather than assuming a long-running stream remains healthy.
- Leave network capacity beyond the total stream bitrate, following YouTube’s guidance for the current setup.
- A UPS battery backup for the streaming PC and network equipment may help with power continuity. Size it for the actual computer and network load. It does not solve internet outages, software crashes, or every other failure mode; the cited sources do not specify a model, capacity, or runtime.
Do not rely on YouTube for a complete 24/7 archive
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” For a continuous broadcast, plan separately for recording and replay, and check the integrity of any local archive file. A 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube recording. (YouTube Help, “Archive live streams”; “Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder”)

Streamlabs Desktop Ultra: a bundle for creators who need its paid tools
Ultra is a reasonable choice when you need its multistreaming thresholds or expect to use the bundled overlays, widgets, app library, and other suite features. The displayed starting price is $15.75/month on the Streamlabs page retrieved in 2026; check checkout for current regional pricing and terms. Its reviewed feature descriptions do not establish that the subscription itself keeps a single YouTube stream running around the clock.
Free Streamlabs Desktop: a sensible starting point for YouTube alone
For a single YouTube destination—or the documented free horizontal-plus-vertical case—free Desktop may be enough. You still need to operate and monitor the computer-based workflow, protect against power and network interruptions, and plan for recording if you need a dependable archive.

A practical decision checklist
- Count destinations and note whether each is horizontal or vertical before paying for multistreaming.
- List the Ultra tools you will actually use, then compare their value with the current checkout price.
- Decide whether your priority is creator-suite functionality or continuous playback of uploaded video without a home computer running.
- For a 24/7 desktop workflow, establish monitoring, network headroom, power continuity, local recording, and a recovery procedure.
- For any long broadcast, account for YouTube’s warning that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all.
