That was a pregame update—not confirmation that Carter ultimately played or a prediction of his production.
What was Carter’s Week 5 status?
The latest located availability update, published by RotoWire on October 2, said Carter was expected to play when Texas Tech visited Colorado the following day. The matchup was scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at Folsom Field in Boulder, with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff, according to Colorado Athletics’ 2026 schedule.
RotoWire’s wording described an expectation ahead of kickoff. It does not establish whether Carter was active, entered the game, or recorded statistics in Week 5.
What injury information had been reported?
RotoWire’s October 2 headline described a shoulder issue. A separate, earlier update from Red Raider Sports / On3 offered context from head coach Joey McGuire: Carter’s surgically repaired foot felt good, while an AC sprain was the concern ahead of the Sam Houston game. McGuire said then that Carter would be a game-time decision for that earlier matchup.

That quote is from McGuire’s September 2026 comments as reported by Red Raider Sports / On3. It describes the earlier update, not a definitive diagnosis in the October 2 report.

What had Carter produced in 2026?
Red Raider Sports / On3 reported on September 26 that Carter was not expected to play against Sam Houston and listed him at that point with five receptions for 62 yards. RotoWire’s later Week 5 item said he had two catches on three targets for 34 yards against Houston in Week 3. Those are dated snapshots, not a projection for the Colorado game.
How does Carter fit Texas Tech’s offense?
Texas Tech Athletics lists Carter as a fifth-year tight end from Killeen, Texas. The school records his 2025 season with the Red Raiders as 55 receptions for 624 yards and five touchdowns, and identifies him as the team’s leading returning tight end in receiving yards entering 2026. Does the update support a fantasy lineup call?
No specific fantasy projection or lineup recommendation is established by these reports. “Expected to play” is useful availability information, but it does not tell you how many routes Carter would run, what his target share would be, or whether he would have a meaningful workload. A lineup decision would need current confirmation plus independently sourced information about usage, matchup, and your replacement options. RotoWire characterized Colorado’s defense as having a poor start to 2026, but did not provide a sourced defensive ranking or quantified measure in the cited update.
