What kind of game is The Ivalice Chronicles?
It is a tactical, turn-based role-playing game. Battles unfold on terrain-based maps: players position units, manage turn order, develop characters, and build parties by assigning jobs and abilities. Square Enix describes a system with more than 20 jobs and more than 300 abilities.

The story takes place in Ivalice during political conflict among rival noble houses. Ramza Beoulve, a noble, and Delita, his childhood companion—a commoner raised among nobles—are central characters. Strategic choices matter on the battlefield: Square Enix’s Gamescom update notes that allies who fall may be permanently lost if help does not reach them in time. That consequence is not described as applying to every battle.
