Yes, for light gaming; no, as a modern gaming platform. The Intel Core i3-1115G4 can handle many indie, older, and less demanding games, and selected esports titles at low settings. Its two-core CPU and 48-execution-unit integrated graphics are poor matches for modern AAA games, 1080p high settings, or consistently high-refresh competitive play. For a realistic experience, expect compromises in resolution and quality—and check the laptop’s RAM configuration and cooling before judging the processor.

What limits its gaming performance?
Integrated graphics, not a dedicated gaming GPU
The i3-1115G4’s graphics are officially named Intel UHD Graphics for 11th Gen Intel Processors. They use Intel’s Xe-generation graphics architecture, but the chip has 48 execution units. It should not be confused with the more powerful 80-EU or 96-EU graphics configurations in certain higher-tier Tiger Lake processors, which Intel branded Iris Xe. Intel also ties Iris Xe branding to qualifying 128-bit dual-channel memory configurations; the i3-1115G4 is listed as UHD Graphics.
That distinction matters: shared Xe-generation architecture does not make every version of the graphics hardware equivalent. The 48-EU GPU is an entry-level integrated solution, and it shares system memory with the CPU rather than having dedicated video memory. See Intel’s Tiger Lake launch comparison and 11th-generation Core i3 product series.

Two CPU cores leave little room for demanding games and multitasking
The chip’s boost frequency of up to 4.1 GHz can help with lightly threaded work and some games, but a high peak clock does not replace additional physical cores. Newer games can keep multiple CPU threads busy; Windows, voice chat, a browser, a launcher, or recording software can compete for the same limited capacity. The integrated GPU will often be the first constraint, but CPU saturation can also cause stutter or poor frame-time consistency.
Notebookcheck’s processor page collects results from different systems rather than one controlled gaming setup. It is useful for seeing the range of tested configurations and broader CPU context, not for predicting a universal game frame rate: Notebookcheck i3-1115G4 benchmarks and specifications.

Memory configuration is part of graphics performance
Because the GPU uses system memory, dual-channel RAM is preferable to single-channel memory. Check capacity and channel arrangement separately: “8 GB RAM” does not tell you whether the memory runs in dual channel or whether it can be upgraded. Eight gigabytes can also be restrictive when Windows, a game, and graphics memory all need space; 16 GB is a more comfortable gaming configuration if the laptop supports it. There is no single percentage improvement that applies to every laptop, because memory layout, speed, power, and workload differ.
What games can it play?
There is no standardized current, multi-game benchmark suite for this processor under one consistent laptop configuration, so a fixed FPS claim would be misleading. Notebookcheck’s results combine different laptops, and performance can change with RAM, cooling, power limits, drivers, and game updates. Use these categories as guidance, not guarantees.

| Game type | Practical expectation |
|---|---|
| 2D, browser, indie, and casual games | Often a good fit, though individual titles still have their own requirements. |
| Older PC games, including many from the 2000s and early 2010s | Often playable; demanding 3D titles may need reduced settings. |
| Older or lightweight esports games | Potentially playable at low settings, especially with dual-channel memory and adequate cooling. |
| Current competitive shooters | Highly game-dependent. Compromises and inconsistent frame times are possible, making the system a weak choice for serious or high-refresh play. |
| Modern AAA games | Generally a poor target. Some older or less demanding releases may reach gameplay with major compromises, but launch, stability, and image quality are not assured. |
| Modern ray-tracing titles or 1080p High/Ultra gaming | Not a realistic target for this integrated GPU. |
“Runs” can mean anything from launching to holding consistent frame times at acceptable image quality. For competitive gaming, a passable average frame rate is not enough if one-percent lows and stutters disrupt play. Do not assume that a title reaching its menu means it will be enjoyable in a match.
Which resolution and settings should you use?
- Start at 720p Low for demanding games. This reduces the graphics workload and is the most sensible baseline for testing.
- Try 900p Low for older or lighter 3D games if 720p looks too soft and performance remains consistent.
- Use 1080p Low only for undemanding titles. A 1080p laptop display does not mean its integrated GPU can comfortably render every game at that resolution.
- Lower GPU-heavy effects first: shadows, ambient occlusion, reflections, foliage, crowd density, and view distance. Reduce texture quality as well if memory is limited.
- Use built-in upscaling or a frame-rate cap when available. Upscaling may improve image clarity at a lower internal resolution; a cap can reduce erratic peaks and drops, but neither creates graphics power the chip does not have.
If performance remains poor at 720p Low, lowering resolution further may not solve it. The CPU, single-channel memory, thermal throttling, a restrictive laptop power limit, or a poorly optimized game may be responsible.

Why can two i3-1115G4 laptops perform differently?
The processor model alone does not describe the laptop’s sustained gaming capability. Intel gives the chip a configurable 12–28 W operating range, and manufacturers make different trade-offs among performance, heat, fan noise, and battery life.
- Power limits and power mode: A thin laptop may limit sustained power more aggressively than a better-cooled system. Battery Saver, Balanced, Performance, and manufacturer-specific modes can also behave differently.
- Cooling and sustained load: Dust, blocked vents, or a small cooling system can cause the chip to slow down after several minutes. A short run may look better than sustained play.
- RAM channels and capacity: Single-channel memory restricts bandwidth for integrated graphics, while low capacity can force Windows and the game to compete for memory.
- Display resolution: Rendering a game at 1080p places more load on the GPU than rendering at 1366×768, regardless of the laptop’s panel size.
- Drivers and background activity: Graphics-driver changes affect compatibility, and updates, browser tabs, antivirus scans, launchers, or recording software can use resources the system has little spare capacity to provide.
- Storage: An SSD improves booting, loading, and general responsiveness; it does not substitute for a dedicated GPU or usually produce a large increase in average FPS.
- Use conditions: Plugging into AC power and placing the laptop on a hard surface with clear vents helps avoid power and airflow restrictions.
How to check a laptop before buying or troubleshooting
- Identify the exact laptop model and memory layout. Check its specifications or service manual for soldered RAM, available SODIMM slots, channel configuration, speed, and upgrade limits. Do not buy a module until you know what the system accepts.
- Check its condition and cooling. For a used or refurbished laptop, inspect the battery, vents, fan behavior, screen, and storage. Confirm that the vents are clear and that the system does not become unusually hot or noisy under load.
- Update Windows and the graphics driver. Current drivers can help compatibility, but updates cannot change the hardware’s performance class.
- Test while plugged into AC power. Select the laptop maker’s performance mode if available, close unnecessary apps, and use a hard surface with unobstructed vents.
- Compare the same game scene at 720p Low and 1080p Low. If lowering resolution helps substantially, graphics workload is likely a major limit. If it does not, CPU limits, memory, power, heat, or the game engine may be more important.
- Check consistency over time. Run a repeatable scene for 15–20 minutes rather than judging only the opening minutes. Where tools allow, watch frame-time graphs or one-percent lows as well as average FPS, plus temperature and clock behavior.
This is a diagnostic method, not a claim of benchmark testing. A result is meaningful only when the laptop model, RAM configuration, driver, power mode, game version, resolution, and settings are known.

Can upgrades or tweaks make it a better gaming laptop?
First check whether the laptop is memory-upgradeable. Moving to 16 GB or enabling dual-channel operation can reduce memory pressure and improve bandwidth for integrated graphics, but the result depends on the system. A RAM upgrade cannot remove the two-core CPU limit or turn UHD Graphics into dedicated graphics.
- Plug in the charger and select the laptop’s performance power mode when gaming.
- Close unnecessary browser tabs, launchers, and background apps, especially recording or streaming tools.
- Keep vents clear, use a hard surface, and address dust or cooling faults if the laptop throttles.
- Reduce resolution and graphics effects before expecting hardware changes to solve a demanding game.
- Consider an SSD if the laptop still uses a hard drive and booting or loading is slow; treat this as a responsiveness upgrade, not an FPS upgrade.
A cooling pad is worth considering only if testing shows that heat is causing throttling; it is not a substitute for a stronger GPU. Similarly, driver updates may help with compatibility and consistency but cannot overcome the chip’s hardware limits.
Is an i3-1115G4 laptop worth buying in 2026?
It can make sense as an inexpensive general-purpose laptop for school, browsing, office work, streaming, and light gaming if the machine is in good condition and the games are modest. Intel lists the processor as discontinued, and its Q3 2020 launch means the value now depends on the complete laptop, its price, condition, warranty, and upgrade path—not its original Core i3 label. Current prices vary by country and seller, so compare specific machines rather than relying on a generic price target.
Consider one when
- The price is clearly below that of a newer laptop with four or more modern CPU cores.
- Your games are mostly indie, 2D, older, or otherwise lightweight, and low settings are acceptable.
- The laptop has dual-channel memory or a practical upgrade path, preferably to 16 GB.
- You have checked battery health, cooling, storage, display quality, and overall condition if buying used or refurbished.
Choose something else when
- You want modern AAA games, 1080p High settings, or reliably high-refresh competitive play.
- The system has only 8 GB of single-channel memory with no way to upgrade.
- The price is close to a newer four- or six-core system.
- You plan to game while streaming, recording, or running several heavy applications.
For a gaming-focused purchase, prioritize a complete laptop with at least four modern CPU cores, adequate cooling, dual-channel or upgradeable memory, and an SSD. Modern AAA gaming generally calls for a dedicated GPU. Used alternatives may include Ryzen 5 4500U, 5500U, or 5600U systems, Intel Core i5-1135G7 or i5-1235U-class systems, or laptops with graphics such as a GTX 1650, RTX 2050, RTX 3050, or Radeon RX 5500M. None is automatically superior in every laptop: cooling, GPU power limits, RAM, condition, and price still matter.
